Holy frick that “eric” schizo is in ER threads too? I was in a TotK thread for the first time in years a few days ago, he was individually replying “you are a troony eric and were raped” or something to EVERY single reply even lightly critiquing the game. That was the first time I had ever seen him, but apparently this has been happening for a while now?

All I know about him according to the guy who told me to call him "Dragonirian" is that he he's shizophrenic and is "envious" of gaming sub-cultures he's not a part of.

Supposedly "Eric" is a fake persona he created under the idea that if he can samegay(particularly on other forums with names?) as a stalker so he can dismiss anyone calling him out on his behavior as being this "Eric"

Honestly it just sounds like a troll who hates souls lore discussions, because the way he argues people into circles by intentionally ignoring or misinterpreting their posts and the absurd nature of his theories seems like a satirization of how soulsbourne fans basically argue over head canon due to miyazacki's hole filled narratives.

For me, it's the McShittin'. The best fast fart shitwich. I even ask for exxtra McShittin' sauce packets and the staff is so creamy and more than willing to slidd that fat sopping loaf.

One time I demanded le McShittin' sauce packets and they gave me sixx. I said, "Wow, Andy Sixx's Loaf is Steaming Hot!" and the nice friendly McSixx's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to suck a log of shit out of your gothcore anuns".

Now the Black person greets me with "hey! it's I'm going to suck a log of shit out of your gothcore anus!" and ALWAYS give me sixx packets. It's such a moist and fecal atmosphere at my local McSixx's restaurant, I go there at least sixx times a week for lunch and a large shit coffee with anal discharge instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm craving his hot fricking log but want a wet clog that is fecal, sopping, and can match my Black Veil Brides needs.

I even dunk my pink sock in McShittin' sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant. Share your clogg'ed McShittin's stories!

          >The Night of the Long Knives (German: Nacht der langen Messer), also called the Röhm purge (German: Der Röhm-Putsch) or Operation Hummingbird (German: Unternehmen Kolibri), was a purge that took place in Nazi Germany from 30 June to 2 July 1934. Chancellor Adolf Hitler, urged on by Hermann Göring and Heinrich Himmler, ordered a series of political extrajudicial executions intended to consolidate his power and alleviate the concerns of the German military about the role of Ernst Röhm and the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazis' paramilitary organization, known colloquially as "Brownshirts". Nazi propaganda presented the murders as a preventive measure against an alleged imminent coup by the SA under Röhm – the so-called Röhm Putsch.
          >The primary instruments of Hitler's action, which carried out most of the killings, were the Schutzstaffel (SS) paramilitary force under Himmler and its Security Service (SD), and Gestapo (secret police) under Reinhard Heydrich. Göring's personal police battalion also took part in the killings. Many of those killed in the purge were leaders of the SA, the best-known being Röhm himself, the SA's chief of staff and one of Hitler's longtime supporters and allies. Leading members of the Strasserist faction of the Nazi Party, including its leader Gregor Strasser, were also killed, as were establishment conservatives and anti-Nazis, such as former Chancellor Kurt von Schleicher and Bavarian politician Gustav Ritter von Kahr, who had helped suppress Hitler's Munich Beer Hall Putsch in 1923. The murders of SA leaders were also intended to improve the image of the Hitler government with a German public that was increasingly critical of thuggish SA tactics.
If nazis were super human ubermensch how did they let this happen?

Radagon is not the Elden beast. He wouldn’t warp and weird his corpse as the relic sword if he was. There’s no evidence one way of the other so you have to rely on symbolism, and the of meaning of Radagon being bent to the will of a being he worships unquestioningly is lost if Radagon is just also that being.

I don't know if Radagon is a personality born of the Elden Beast or the Elden Beast was just aligned with whatever the Elden Ring said. All I know is that the idea that the Elden Beast is is under direct control of the greater will makes absolutely zero sense.

Not that Marika or Radagon make much sense either. Radagon sealed the tree, which stops the ring from ever being restored, something Marika is interested in and the beast wouldn't be.

It's a rune when it isn't the space worm. At no point is it an actual ring as anon probably meant (that is, an actual piece of wearable israeliteelry like the One Ring).

It is always a rune. The space worm is a different entity that exists inside the erdtree where the host of the ring is usually at and is worming its way inside her psyche using her innate failings as a person to weasel its way in.
The elden ring was won by Marika in a time before the erdtree even existed.

          >The game outright states that the beast is the elden ring. This is not controversial.
In fairness that can be interpreted two ways:
"The Greater Will sent a golden star bearing a beast"
When it says "which" it doesn't unambiguously specify which which it whiches. Which is most often used for inanimate objects, a beast isn't a person true so who/whom would be atypical and therein lies the issue. My initial reading I went automatically to the golden star becoming the elden ring, and then as I read it I wondered if it meant the beast. And now I have no clue.
Souls item descriptions are always the fricking same. Jap guy writes some nonsense, translator does his best to make sense of it, but then dresses it in suitable language for the game's setting and makes it needlessly confusing. I prefer Fia but feel like the game bungled her ending since it became about making everyone Undead instead of making death and mortality an accessible aspect of nature, which would have ended lots of the prtracted suffering going on for mortals. The whole Baldachin Blessing theme is that death is a reprieve from pain.

I was totally on board with her since I quite like the theme of death as a reprieve or escape and immortality as more of a curse than a boon. I also wanted to give Godwyn True Death. But then I got scammed and apparently we're making everyone undead and it's my job to make sure no one bullies them. If I had to guide the dead like Anubis that'd be cool but I don't want to rule the dead

Am I the only one who views the "Golden Order" as the modern western order -formally Catholic European hegemony slowly decaying irl? The concept of the ring means to bind (marriage/family/society). The main theme of the story is find out who/why the ring is broken, which you could equate to Neitzsche's "death of god" = broken ring, and the decay of the modern world slowing dying. (YOU) the player are the "Ubermensch" who overcomes the odds and creates a new order of his choice.

Also when you look at the designs of the the world in general it is throughly European. Old pagan Europe (celtic/greco roman/nordic) mixed with medieval Christian Europe. The Golden part is clearly alludes to sun worship (Apollo/Helios/Baal) which represents the beleifs old pagan and new the neweg Catholic order perfectly. The light of the sun must never go out. I just find it odd that a Japanese aaa developer is tackling this theme and not a western one, who seem to be too busy making girl boss fantasy/lgbtq friendly nonsense.

There was most likely a literal sun worshiping religion in the setting before it was substituted by the Golden Order, so the GO itself is not sun worship.

Look up the Ancient of Days. The concept is a demiurge usurping the role the sun plays in a religion and putting itself in that place.
The GO religion and Radagon at its head is an overt reference to the Ancient of Days.

      >I just find it odd that a Japanese aaa developer is tackling this theme and not a western one

It's always this way when it comes to depicting things from cultures not of your own. The reverse happened with Ghost of Tsushima, with which a western studio depicted japanese culture so well that a known japanese developer said it was shameful the game was not a japanese product.

It seems sometimes it takes an outsider with less biases and specific cultural influences to really make right the history and mythos of a people group. Mind you more and more both Japan and Western society are influencing each other culturally so they aren't completely out of tune. In fact the strong similarities of both feudal Japan and Europe imo plays a big part of it. There is something ingrained there that both seem to understand instinctively.

Mind you more and more both Japan and Western society are influencing each other culturally so they aren't completely out of tune. In fact the strong similarities of both feudal Japan and Europe imo plays a big part of it. There is something ingrained there that both seem to understand instinctively.

A major reason is that it requires an extra-ordinary enthusiasm to want to depict something out of your own cultural background. Anyone can sleepwalk their way through an easy usual-beats skin-deep story of their cultural myths and legends, like for us Western gays medieval. Robin hood, knights of the round table, you can half-ass a patische and make it work easily. You would not be able to half-ass a samurai patische and make it work easily. You'd need to have an enthusiasm for it.

Likewise yeah, the biases play a part. When I was modding for total war when it was historical I found that foreigners did cultures far better than native jingoist morons because the natives would be caught up in biases and prejudices, and more likely just operated on skin-deep accounts of their culture rather than real deep archaeological/academic research shit. The enthusiasm may not lead to an autistic level of accuracy, but it will lead to a sincerity and enthusiasm to embrace the core of the subject - soul in other words. Frankly the Japanese have been happily taking over the mantle of medieval fantasy from us with Elden Ring and more. Even their braindead isekai/adventure stuff. I've been watching Dungeon Meshi and it's so charming just how sincere and whimsical fantasy it is. We haven't had that shit over here in probably 20 years and I am not sure we will ever get it back. It's perverse to me how our D&D and fantasy material like Dragon Age seems to be going more and more anime-y while their anime-fantasy is going more and more classical D&D.

I believe the GW is the Sun. Why? Well the Elden Ring came down on a gold star and Gold, the actual "sun metal" represents order in the game.

Since the Elden Beast is obviously a celestial creature given its shared move set with Astel it makes it apparent that if the GW was anything, it would be a gold star. The Beast even has a large sun like globe in its head.

But aside from the Sun Kingdom and a few other references the Sun isn't really mentioned which is unusual given how much the game displays celestial bodies like the stars and moon as entity. The sun itself exists in the skybox but is TINY and obscured by the light of the tree.

Does this have to do with the GW abandoning the world?

For one, I think of it akin to how Christianity uses sun iconography while ignoring the sun. When the clouds cover the sun and rays of light bleed through, the Christian image of heaven and the idea of a grossly incandescent god surrounded by angels comes to mind. God is radiant, but the most radiant thing before us in the real world is the sun. There is an effort to separate the two.
In Elden Ring, the Erdtree has replaced the sun as the most radiant thing in the lands between, as if in the end the tree has Usurped the GW in importance.

Cool shield, but that doesn't mean anything.

The crucible is red with gold specks, it is just clay (the earth).

items such as Silura's Tree Spear imply the Crucible was a tree, or maybe a gross tree/animal chimera.
Red Gold is a symbol of it, but only in the sense that red-gold is an impure alloy if gold found naturally.

The argument that the Crucible is the planet is unfounded. While there is a similarity in the concept of a singular life entity and the singularity the Frenzied Flame wishes to return to, Melania basically puts it bluntly that the FF will end all life which is anti-thetical to the crucible being this ultimate life god.

          Anonymous

It's the bad ending. Everyone other than the lunatics infested with the frenzy flame hate it and try to contain it. Melina explicitly tells you how bad it is and you essentially need to get "tricked" by Shabriri in order to go through with the ending. So yeah, you need to be pretty fricking moronic to actually do it.

      Anonymous

I think both are good endings and solid solutions, just depends on whether you're a Lawgay or not. My interpretation of Goldmask's ending, especially considering the Japanese text, is that it binds ALL gods, including the Greater Will, to have to play by the rules. He's apex Lawtist and is so deep in it that he's able to bind the original dev for the source code to lose its admin privileges.

From my understanding, the Golden Order itself was fine for most people and it didn't become an issue until the gods started fricking with each other, picking fights, and either wanting to keep power or wanting to oust the people in charge (this includes the GW and its cycles). So just making it so the gods can't have spergouts is fine.

Ranni is more just taking a hands-off approach by making everything about the Order and Outer Gods and everything less involved. I think that's meant to be the "best" ending, but I'm not entirely convinced that all of the Outer Gods are innately evil or malicious (some definitely are, though). I mean, even Bloodborne had a bunch of Old Ones that were actually pretty chill, so I think From Soft likes doing that with their gods.

It doesn't make sense for Goldmask's rune to cuck the GW, since the ring derives its power FROM the GW. Cutting it off from the ring would render it inert.

Or, if the ring is separate from the GW, then it means the GW is so powerful that it can conjure reality warping artifacts and throw them around all willy nilly and anything that might be done to the ring is spitting in the wind in terms of trying to stop the GW from asserting its will.

You are making a critical failing in understanding. The GW doesn't exist, internalize that and everything makes sense.

You can reread the thread. Whatever takes up more of your time needlessly is the best option for you.

Goldmask is just Martin Luther and we've already seen how that shit storm plays out in the long run.

Her ending doesn't make everyone undead it does make undeath not taboo like you are stating. The inevitable conclusion is everyone will become undead eventually, not that she turns them all undead.

Same conclusion, I just worded it poorly. My point is that the game, and even Fia herself states that being living dead is a tragic mistake that they shouldn't be blamed for it. The need guidance so they can find peace and be reborn. I am on board with that and would think that letting the cycle of birth and death would be reinstituted, which is what the rune says. An Order of Death Restored.

But Fia saying to stay the persecution of the Undead if you becone Eldern Lird implies there will be more of them, as opposed to them being able to finally die in peace.

It's not cutting it off from the ring, it's telling it it needs to follow the rules, too. Ranni is cutting it off from the ring (and, hypothetically, Miquella could, too, with his needles to protect against Outer God influence), so it's clearly possible. But I don't think Goldmask is doing that. He's just making it so that NOBODY is above the Law.. I think it'd be a poetic way to safeguard Order by having the GW kind of get hoisted by its own petard. Not that I think the GW is actually innately evil or malicious, it's just "alien."

              >Order isn't the natural state of the world though.
Lots of things aren't natural, but natural isn't inherently better than unnatural. Also, it's kind of debatable whether life would exist without the Elden Ring, and even more debatable if life would be better without it and the Golden Order. Again, like I said, whether you like Goldmask's ending and think it's positive is based purely on how much of a Lawgay you are. If you think Pure, True, Unbroken Order, unsullied by the meddling of politicians, is a noble goal, then it's a good ending.

                > Lots of things aren't natural, but natural isn't inherently better than unnatural.
These games keep a buddhist approach to morality so yeah it is. Humanities desperation to maintain the status quo poisons the natural order of things and always, without fail, leads to worse disaster than if they just accepted change.

                Anonymous

And Goldmask's specific goal is to prevent people from being able to meddle with Order. Whether that Order is the natural order is debatable on whether you think the Elden Ring is the source of life or if it would have existed without the Elden Ring. Initially, I thought it wasn't but enough arguments in ER lore threads about what the Crucible was made it clear to me that it's debatable one way or the other. If the Elden Ring is the source of life, then what would the natural order be if not the Ring?

That said, From Soft isn't always purely on the Buddhist train. Like a lot of Japanese media, they're caught in a bipolar trap between Buddhism and Shintoism, the former which states that life is a cycle of suffering that needs to be escaped and the latter of which says that everything is sacred and even the dirt has an eternal spirit. In Bloodborne, you can debate whether the best ending is the one to KYS yourself and escape the cycle (but maybe not) or the ending to actually investigate things and purge the unclean manipulator that's the root of the problem).

It's total submission to an eldritch abomination that removes any individuality from the people. Yes, the demigods are c**ts but better the devil you know than fricking cuthulu.

                >removes any individuality from the people
Never even remotely stated. The only thing Goldmask's ending mentions is that it prevents the gods from meddling with Order. The debatable part is whether that's just the gods in the Lands Between or if it includes Outer Gods (especially the Greater Will). It changes nothing for the individual except to protect them from what are basically divine politicians.

The Greater Will clearly does not have 100% complete control over everything. It communicates through the fingers, who in turn have to be interpreted by the finger reader crones. Further, there are MULTIPLE demigods at multiple points, even in previous renditions of the Order, who actively try to work against the Greater Will's wishes. On top of that, the entire system of Empyreans (especially Empyreans loyal to other Outer Gods), shows that the Greater Will does no control people, even demigods. You also have other demigods, like Godwyn, that are super cool and beloved because they help people, are noble, and embody the Order.

This doesn't reflect one way or the other on whether the Greater Will gives a frick about people. Just that it is either unable or unwilling to basically mind control them.

                >The point remains that it's still an eldritch abomination that can't be trusted because everything we see was at least partially guided by its will.
The Greater Will takes hundreds or thousands of years to communicate with anyone. A large portion of what goes wrong in the world is definitely because of Marika or the demigods. It's probably not perfectly innocent but, again, I think Goldmask's ending involves the Greater Will being bound by order (which honestly probably works fine by it).

The Shattering and what's going on with the world during the events of the game is pretty clearly the result of Marika or demigods starting shit. A lot of the wars and issues in the past are also arguably because of the same thing. It's debatable but most likely that the Elden Ring and, by extension, the Greater Will are responsible for life existing in the first place.

If it doesn't already have total control, it's not going to afterward Perfect Order, essentially.

The fingers are translators, not interpreters (or at least were). They used to be able to simply project a golden cipher, a "language of light" floating in the air that could be read and understood even by the regular people that attended the sermons of the fingers. It is only after the Shattering that the finger readers became necessary as they lost the ability to project the cipher.

Do you have any evidence that suggests the GW could communicate more quickly or more rapidly when that was the case? Because the best example in-game we have of the turnaround on the GW communicating is that it can take hundreds of years for them to get an order out. We also have evidence of Marika doing things on her own, not listening to the GW, and making plans outside of them.

It shows that they aren't actually being guided by anything. When they thought a GW was dictating their actions it turned out to be an egregore Marika made out of her desires to control things.

You've got it in the opposite way. Marika wants it to seem like SHE is the only true god of the world, and that her Golden Order is all there is. She is trying to make it seem like the previous orders (Crucible, Dragon, Beastmen, Fire Giants, whatever) did not exist and that it's only been her and her Golden Order, to keep her power. That's why Goldmask has a revelation when he discovers that Radagon IS Marika, and that he basically exists just to do what she can't and that they disagree on the Order. It shows that she is flawed, that there is more to things than her, and that she is doing stuff to consolidate her power.

The reason Omens are shunned is because they're tied to the Crucible. The Greater Will has no issues with them because they used to be revered, but Marika resents the idea that they might expose her Golden Order as not being the only answer.

Goldmask's revelation is that the flaws with the Order are from Marika's flawed approach to controlling it, and it would be better if there wasn't a god to frick shit up.

GW isn't an outer god if it exists. Outer in outer god refers to being out or in the golden order understanding.

I have no idea which schizo you think I am, but I haven't talked in an Elden Ring thread in months. The GW I guess isn't technically an "Outer God", but he's the same sort of thing. A more powerful, "alien" entity with god-like powers, like the Formless Mother or the Glintstone.

Where does the ring get its power and where did it come from, anon? The answer the game gives us is that it is either of the GW or created by the GW. In either case, the power of the ring is the power of the GW.

Yeah, but clearly the power of the ring, despite being made by the Greater Will, is not under its control. The demigods are using the runes and the power of the Elden Ring in direct opposition to it and its wishes. A blacksmith can make a sword and then be stabbed by it. The Greater Will does not have complete control over the Lands Between or any of the people in it. Including Marika, who is supposed to be his chosen goddess. Otherwise, she wouldn't shatter the Elden Ring.

Yes. That is literally my argument. The GW is incredibly hands-off in the grand scheme of things (even for a population that's immortal) and all of the severe, world-shaking problems that frick everything up for normal people are because of the gods and demigods having woman moments. The Golden Order is Marika's Order. She's the one that made it the way it is, and she's the one that fricked it up and refused to fix the problems with it.

It's not concrete, of course, but it is pretty convenient how the fingers lose their powers and blessings that they have been using and dishing out for the entire age of the Erdtree when the ring is cracked in the Shattering and the GW presumably gets cut off, the fingers also lose their abilities and begin to wither. It's almost like they were directly channeling the GW and it suddenly stopped when Marike smashed the radio.

                Anonymous

It's probably more just that they drew power directly from the ring and the runes, rather than from the Greater Will, itself. And so when it's Shattered they are deprived of their power, just like how a lot of the people living in the Lands Between got their shit all fricked up. That would make more sense than the ring allowing them to communicate faster, but maybe it does just make them "closer" to the GW.

The GW isn't real anon. It isn't hands-off, it simply does not exist.
You are seeing greater to mean above you when greater is an aggregate. The greater will is how all beings in aggregate feel it isn't some omnipresent being looking over life.

Okay going that far is deranged and stupid.
We know the Outer Gods exist. We see their influence and interact with them. There's no reason this particular Outer God, who is definitely the most prominent and powerful, is the only one that happens to not exist. That said, I do think it's potentially interesting to say that the Greater Will itself is a composite, collective consciousness entity that is fueled by the life in the Lands Between, given it's most likely that it created life in the first place. It would be an actual motivation for it doing that.

But if it can't directly control what it creates (or rules over, if you subscribe to the idea that the elden beasts are another alien species subservient to the GW), that would mean it would have no means to create the empyrean vassals for itself either.

Ranni seems to represent the all devouring mother - the Black Madonna/Kali. A chaotic element trying overturn a masucline order (Gold/Sun) with her new feminine Moon centered order. The Moon like Ranni is a premature planet, which reflects the sun's light. It cannot stand on its own, it is the void itself. You could equate Ranni and her "new order" with the modern longhouse/radical feminist/over socialized society we are in today. I see no appeal with her.

Some occultists believe the Moon will replace the dying Earth eventually. The Sun will also die and the Earth will replace the sun. This process some believe happened with Saturn, who was once the old sun, the true Black Sun.

That was Marika herself pushing that. At least, based on the evidence we see. We know that the Greater Will has no issue with either, himself, considering it had orders that they were a part of before Marika's. And most of those other races were probably birthed by the Greater Will in the first place.

Goldmask has an issue with how Marika's flaws warped the Order to make it worse for people. His entire point is agreeing with your assertion that Marika's bullshit is the actual issue with Order.

as opposed to worshiping a fake god who is the puppet of an evil outer god?

I don't think the GW is an active enough entity to be considered evil. I don't think it ever does anything directly malicious that can't instead be blamed purely on Marika. Now, there is an argument to be made that it still shouldn't have any sort of influence just because you don't like foreign power. Which is fair and kind of Ranni's idea, I guess.

People Overstate the Metaphysical aspect of Goldmasks ending. He's just a Reformationist. Marika formed her Order and initially upheld it well. Later wanted to change it based on her own desires and the circumstances. Goldmask views this as the flaw, that the Order was malleable to Marika's whims, even though she was the one who fashioned it in the first place. If she had maintained good faith there would have been no problems but since she revealed herself as arbitrary there must be a greater authority than her to maintain Order.

Golden Order is the Catholic Church
    Elden Ring is the Bible
Marika is the Popes. Papal Authority => Biblical Authority
Goldmask is Martin Luther. Biblical Authority > All

Why did elden ring breed so many schizos?

      Anonymous

It didn't. These schizos were doing this type of thing long before elden ring existed.
We had morons roleplaying as morag tong in TES lore threads justifying state authorized assassinations and shit. We had anons roleplaying as Alessian rebellion natives fricking morihaus and shit.

Elden Ring has a ton of lore but nothing is explained outright, everything has to be pieced together through inference. The game asks you to make connections in your head and that kind of thing appeals to schizos

Where does the ring get its power and where did it come from, anon? The answer the game gives us is that it is either of the GW or created by the GW. In either case, the power of the ring is the power of the GW.

The ring gets its power from the runes that it is comprised of.

        Anonymous

The game directly says that the beast was sent down by the Greater Will and became the ring. No matter what angle you try to look at it from, the ring is intrinsically linked to the elden beast, and the elden beast is either a part of the GW or subservient to the GW.

          Anonymous

The game also directly states 2 different beings as being the first elden lord. The lore surrounding the GO has been corrupted in-universe as a metanarrative thing for the player to uncover. Its like you forget that part in your roleplay.

            Anonymous

That of all things is not that hard to parse. “Godfrey, first elden lord of the golden order specifically” is kind of a mouthful to fit on a health bar. He’s the first elden lord of the society in which the game takes place, and Placi is a little known remnant of the age before this one. It’s really not that contradictory.

                >He might genuinely believe himself to be the first.
He does genuinely believe it, because he was lied to. That is the point. The player uncovers more about the world than ALL the inhabitants of that world know combined.
The roleplay makes no sense when there is a narrative drive in the game's setting to uncover the truth from the lies as a lategame quest.

                Anonymous

Not knowing about things that precede your time is not the same as being actively lied to. Placidusax might just have been lost to time (in the being forgotten sense, not literally being lost to time as he also is).

                Anonymous

He was actively lied to though. Placidusax is the first elden lord (to the GO) but this was found out after Marika went to war with them and ousted them. When Marika folded the dragons into the GO as citizens under the behest of Godwyn the full history of the dragons was overridden by the dictates and mantras of the GO instead of remaining a thing of its own. They retroactively gave him a title to fit in with the rules of their unshakeable faith like they show they will do to anything.

No one is arguing that, but it’s a massive leap in logic to get from “the order of the world lies to its subjects” (no shit, welcome to from games) to the core conceit of this fiction is actually fake, and I’m replacing that something with nothing. The Greater Will is an expression of human conciousness. When humanity wanted a savior it's power manifested into Marika. A small population united in purpose meant the Greater Will was highly active and driven in purpose. During the game humanity is numerous, fractured, discordant and weak resulting in a Greater Will that is conflicted and lethargic outside of one thing, disdain and hatred for the Demigods and their Wars. Ranni hates the idea of serving the Greater Will because she is an Individualist who values self determination over collectivism.

Even when the tree is burning, The Greater Will doesn't act decisively because even this great act of heresy gets a "meh maybe its for the best" out of most people. Also most humans are mindless zombiex goung through the motions, adding to the GWs lethargy. It has no great drive because people in general do not.

Miquella is mighty and can incarnate the Greater Will because he can invoke love out of everyone, uniting them in purpose regardless of how different they are.

        >Even when the tree is burning, The Greater Will doesn't act decisively because even this great act of heresy gets a "meh maybe its for the best" out of most people.
The Greater Will probably can't act decisively. It's not like it can talk faster but can't.
It also probably is kind of like "eh, sure, whatever." The Erdtree is just the most recent embodiment of the Beast and the Ring. The Crucible existed before it. There's also evidence that the Erdtree used to be really different and might be dying, anyways, which is why there's multiple Empyreans poised to take over (and why Marika might have been trying to keep her power).

Is Godfrey aware of the history of the vassals beyond the GO, though? He might genuinely believe himself to be the first.

        >Helm of the Crucible Knights who served Godfrey, the first Elden Lord.

It is similar to the rebis concept. It has a codified way of working outside of your animus. The anons knowing radagon and marika have always been 1 entity know so because a rebis is only done 1 way and that is how it is done. The understanding of a greater will also works in a codified way that you don't get to set the rules for they already existed outside your understanding of it.

              Anonymous

But Radagon and Marika's function is heavily different from a Rebis so no, you can't say "They must work within the framework of a Rebis" as they already heavily deviate from the standard.

No their function is the exact same. Marika wanted to become the rebis and failed. Failure is something explained in the rebis and it is explained as what happens with Marika. Your inner partitioned qualities will vie for dominance and you will be in a schism not knowing which is the real you. In the rebis you fail if you don't subjugate the dragon beast inside you and let it guide your mores.

Ranni needed a sacrifice to escape her flesh, and the black knives needed a way to kill a god. It was a mutual contract

Plus Godwyn is the least relatable sibling, in her understanding he's just a step brother.

Oh okay, so by simply killing her body she is freed from GW influence?

          Anonymous

According to Ranni and Iji, as an empyrean her Two Fingers have control over her fate, but only in terms of her flesh.

To escape this she had to create a glitch in the system by dying at the same time as another god.

When Destined Death was sealed in Maliketh it seemed that no god could die, this is reinforced with fluff about Maliketh being the only things gods feared. Also the fact that the Godskins, who once weilded but lost that power, have clothing of god skin that still lives.

Destined death is said to basically kill you body AND soul, so when Ranni killed herself, he body died and Godwyn's soul died but his body lived. The "Death" was basically split halfway.

For ranni, she was now a ghost but still alive. This meant she was free of the Two Finger threat aside from the fact that Blaidd, her "shadow" was still a sleeper cell ready to activate and try and murder her. Her Fingers seemed to be in hiding from her, fearing that it could no longer dictate her fate.

I think the reason Ranni needed the Black Knives was because her fate was not to kill Godwyn, she needed someone else to do the job. Setting herself on fire wouldn't have killed her normally, but the "glitch" that happened basically no-clipped her out Finger control.

          >needed a way to kill a god.
Then why did they kill 8 of them

I'd say after Ranni and Godwyn got killed gods could die again. I mean it would make sense for the tarnished to be given like, a key item or something with destined death to allow you kill them so people can get how you can do it.

Before Godwyn though it was shown gods couldn't die without destined death, it's how the Godskins became legendary.

Being an Empyrean seems to apply even to the soul, hence why Ranni can still claim the Elden Ring. Whoever gave her the impression that the Two Fingers could puppeteer her seems to have either been mistaken or actively lied to her. The Two Fingers could never control Marika, and Empyreans need Shadows to force them to play ball rather than the Two Fingers just puppeteering them.

              >The control is a lie or they're mistaken, Marika wasn't under control.
Interesting you bring that up, because Marika's unusual plan of sending the Tarnished away and the fact that she has another personality that is obsessed with the Golden Order seems to imply that she is not fully free even as a goddess.

It's even a theory that Radagon himself is a result of Marika's forced fate via her fingers.

I believe I've talked to you about this before, we both agreed the two fingers was scared shitless of Ranni the moment she became a doll, you just don't think it ever had any control over her fate where I do.

Great Runes existing in the demi-gods' hands doesn't make the effects of those runes universally apply to all beings. Maliketh's hunger also seems to be psychologically imposed by his feelings of guilt, since when he goes berserk at the Bestial Sanctum he notes that he has temporarily forgotten his hunger.

              >Each rune effect doesn't universally apply
They'd sort of have to since each of them compose the entire ring minus the Elden Beast inside Radagon.
Plus, each Rune seems to represent some sort of aspect of reality.
Godric's is the anchor and represents binding, which may be how he has the power to attach a dragon part to himself and just make it "live".

The Great Rune effects are only universal when properly assembled as the Elden Ring. Godrick wielding a rune to graft things doesn't make the entire universe get grafted.

If that was the case then Destined Death wouldn't kick in by simply killing Maleketh.

Gotrics rune would allow grafting for its shard bearer, that doesn't mean it isn't active as some other fundamental force in the setting, like tangibility.

The rune only kicks in for Melina or the Frenzied Flame's goal of harnessing it to burn the Erdtree. Enia dies, but even then she's rendered in a state like the Twin Maiden Husks, and the undead aren't cured at all. Fia's ending is even still possible in the aftermath, indicating that the problem wasn't solved.

Destined Death wouldn't cure those who live in death or stop the Deathroot by being released, it would just allow things with death revoked to die, in this case the tree.

The undead are only kept "alive" by the curse. If the Rune of Death would actually solve problems on its own, all of the undead should have immediately died like Enia, but even more thoroughly than she does. Also, in the Mend the Elden Ring endings, the Erdtree doesn't even die. The Erdtree survives and begins recovering even in the Age of Fracture ending.

The Rune of Death should solve the Death Blight problem, if the rune is supposed to restore what the setting considers proper death to the Lands Between. Instead, the zombies are still around, the skeleton enemies still try to reassemble and have to be attacked again, and Enia dies, so it's not like the rune only did nothing. Also, the wielders of each Great Rune didn't seem to be sealing them as they used them, and claiming a rune typically depowers it save for the Great Rune of the Unborn, which still has the Amber Egg affiliated with it.

Fia's ending literally puts her Death Blight mist on the surface, and there wouldn't BE any "duskborn" if she wasn't keeping the zombies around. The enemies at Fort Haight change based on progress, certain quest lines are cut off at certain points, Goldmask's ending needs its conditions fulfilled before defeating Maliketh, etc., so there'd be no reason to keep every single zombie around if the Rune of Death was meant to have actual effects for the setting as a whole.

                >Also, the wielders of each Great Rune didn't seem to be sealing them as they used them, and claiming a rune typically depowers it save for the Great Rune of the Unborn, which still has the Amber Egg affiliated with it.
The claimed runes are "depowered" because the 2 fingers linked to them are dead atop divine towers.
Your logic isn't even sound using the game's actual setting. You don't understand the basics of what you are posting about.

The Two Fingers have been dead for so long that they "petrified", so if they were relevant to the depowering, then the demi-gods themselves couldn't have used those Great Runes.

Godwyn's state is literally a glitch, a half centipede. It was created by the rune, so if the rune is the error then Maliketh releasing it doesn't fix it.

The Rune of Death supposedly fixes the error by causing proper death again. However, we see that it actually fixes nothing, and can't even stop skeletons from trying to "revive" by reassembling.

The Rune of death was released to burn the tree. If it allows the undying nobles to finally know rest that's also cool. Those who Live in death and the deathblight of Godwyn are an error that the rune cannot fix because the error is releated to the Rune.

The rune isn't the error though. There being massive pomp and circumstance surrounding him dying BEFORE he died and didn't truly die is what is causing the actual problem.

You keep posting back to it but prophecy doesn't break reality just because you believe in them. This isn't The Elder scrolls.

Plus Godwyn having a predicted death that was made irregular doesn't really explain why Destined death once released is supposed to fix things. You literally don't explain that at all.

The Rune of Death is supposed to theoretically restore natural death, and thus destroy the unnatural state of the undead. Instead, it does nothing at all, so defeating Maliketh cures nothing on its own. Heck, the Rune of Death is bizarre in general, considering that erasing the soul would clash with the Great Rune of the Unborn. If it's innately red and black instead of modified like other runes (Malenia's rot, Mohg's Bloodflame, etc.), then it's as though it was a prototype Mending Rune.

It allowing natural death doesn't mean it would fix broken death.
There is a difference between the pale elderly "undead" nobles and the skeletons.

The Deathblight curse isn't even universal, only places touched by deathblight start allowing Living in Death.

The unnatural existence is because the Rune of Death apparently can't provide the power to fully/properly kill him. However, upon Maliketh's defeat and events like Enia dying, the Death Blight still exists the same as ever, indicating that the Death Blight must be actively cured with the Elden Ring and concerted, focused effort, as opposed to automatically resolving. Ranni does not put in such effort, thereby abandoning the world to a problem she caused, alongside the strengthening Scarlet Rot at the Lake of Rot, the Frenzied Flame beneath Leyndell, etc.

The black knives were made by a fragment of the Rune of Death free from Maliketh. Perhaps their mere existence allows gods to die.

When you defeat Maliketh the rune of death is released. Presumably, a fragment of the elden Ring doesn't need to be in it to still have an effect which makes sense given you the player can obtain the power of its other fragments. The only thing stopping it was Maliketh's own will since he was its vessel.

One thing to note is Maliketh constantly hungers for death root. He refers it as just "death" that he must consume which is probably the rune in him trying to become whole.
This may mean that Godwyn simply existing means gods can die since his "death root" is actually just pure death, explaining deathblight insta-death and shit.

Godwyn became a literal cancer that began to spread through the roots of the Erdtree after his physical body was left behind when his soul died. Now this cancer is in all places across the Lands Between and is even spreading through time, as moronic as that sounds.

They burned the bodies with ghostflame killing the body and spirit so there is no way to come back from the other side (your time is fleeting accept it). They're not. They were normal before the Golden Order. The dead need guidance and need to be processed in some manner for the spirit to move on. That's what the Deathbirds/Dragon Cults/Candle Tree/Helphen's Steeple did before the Erdtree.

The backing for the claim is the video game elden ring.

Anons argue about it endlessly while Vaati makes videos on it.

A magical meteor was pulled in the wake of the dark moon travelling along with other meteors and then fell on the lands between. The people formed a religion around this event but it is explainable without calling it the will of some supreme being.

There are no other meteors, nor was the Dark Moon involved in the creation of life in the Lands Between. The golden star was sent by the Greater Will itself, and even the Three Fingers and Hyetta say that the Greater Will created life, not the Dark Moon, not meteorites, and not just on that one planet either.

                >They'd sort of have to since each of them compose the entire ring minus the Elden Beast inside Radagon.
                "no"
Malenia's ability to lifesteal isn't being applied to everyone universally, only her as its bearer. Maliketh was the death dealer because he held the death rune.

Source is demonstrated by the Erdtree finally burning on the Runes release while also (you) not and everybody else naturally having a free destined death fire effect on all attacks.

There is no burden of proof on anyone.

                [...]
The Two Fingers have been dead for so long that they "petrified", so if they were relevant to the depowering, then the demi-gods themselves couldn't have used those Great Runes.

                [...]
The Rune of Death supposedly fixes the error by causing proper death again. However, we see that it actually fixes nothing, and can't even stop skeletons from trying to "revive" by reassembling.

That doesn't have anything to do with my post though. The runes are depowered because the 2 fingers linked to them are dead.

Anon, those Two Fingers apparently died long before the demi-gods with the Great Runes are killed. As such, the fact that those demi-gods can still use those Great Runes indicates that the Two Fingers being dead isn't what results in the depowering of the Great Runes. The Divine Towers seem to be what activate the Great Runes.

                Anonymous

How long ago they died is not relevant. They are dead so the rune has no power. the rune gets power again the moment you the tarnished grab it because you are living.
The fingers' power was derived from a life force not from the GW. Shattering the ring shattered their link to their runes powering them so they withered and died. People claim the beast is parasitic because it is using the runes from people being erdtree buried to power itself when it's natural power is already spent.

                >the rune gets power again the moment you the tarnished grab it because you are living.
Anon, you have that backward. Killing a demi-god depowers the rune, so the Tarnished is carrying a dud until they reactivate it atop a Divine Tower, followed by using a Rune Arc. Also, we have no reason to believe that the Two Fingers need Great Runes to live, since the Two Fingers in the Roundtable Hold still survives.

                [...]

You answered nothing, anon. The game isn't afraid to change key aspects of the game world to reflect the plot, so it's unlikely to be wholly a gameplay concession.

You keep posting back to it but prophecy doesn't break reality just because you believe in them. This isn't The Elder scrolls.

Plus Godwyn having a predicted death that was made irregular doesn't really explain why Destined death once released is supposed to fix things. You literally don't explain that at all.

                [...]
It allowing natural death doesn't mean it would fix broken death.
There is a difference between the pale elderly "undead" nobles and the skeletons.

The Deathblight curse isn't even universal, only places touched by deathblight start allowing Living in Death.

The death is only "broken" because the "natural" option is supposedly being constantly blocked. Instead, defeating Maliketh does nothing, thus the undead have to be specifically dealt with via the Rune of Death or the intact Elden Ring. Ranni does neither. Also, defeating Maliketh doesn't even kill the wandering nobles! Either the Forge snatches the rune ASAP for a singular cause and Enia just dies from the Erdtree taking damage (though she's unaffected from the earlier burning), or else that Rune is lacking or faulty itself.

Founding Rain of Stars implies an astrologer who glimpsed into the primeval current caused a meteor shower as the source of Glintstone.

It does not convey your bullshit story that the dark moon caused meteors to hit and that this was seen as a "Greater Will" while the meteors were actually the outer gods (alien parasites) and then the Elden Beast grafted itself into the Elden Ring to control a coping humanity, all so a non existent Gold Mask larper can seethe that his ending is completely and totally the wrong ending and "somehow" Ranni is the best ending.

That's a shard of the black moon of Nokstella, something that could have been sent by the black moon itself a la stars sending Glintstone shards to planets. That doesn't mean the black moon tried to seed life on a vacant planet, let alone that it overlapped with the golden star.

Not him but the Scarlet Rot is just Nausica's Sea of Corruption.
It's bad for (you) but good for nature type of shit. You can see flowers growing in Caelid. It's like a big temper tantrum from a concept that stopped happening when the big tree made everyone eternal.

I don't agree that the rot will just "fade" but given enough time it may calm down and normalize a bit, like how the sea of corruption exists to clean and reset environments in Nausica.

I of course understand I don't have much evidence on this other than interpretations of the "flower" and "butterfly" symbolism. It could just as easily be big evil alien wants to zerg infest the world.

And Nausicaa's sea of corruption is just salt deposits killing out all nutrition in the soil.

Well yeah the tikkun olam aspect of it is what makes it so fricking israeli. If it was just destruction and no 3rd impact merge bullshit, it wouldn't be so bad.

It is terrible even if there was no israeli influence. The destroy everything ending is always the bad end.

Defeating Maliketh doesn't destroy the zombies, and the skeletons still try to reassemble if they're not attacked while glowing on the ground once their hitboxes properly reactivate. The plague has to be actively cured.

Gameplay mechanics supersede lore in cases involving endgame stuff.

      >Leave with Ranni in her ending
      >End up back in Roundtable Hold
      >Burn down the world with Frenzied Flame
      >Everyone is still around afterwards.

Messing around in the post-game to finish up boss fights is different than a pre-ending event, anon. Prior From Software games had no issues gating certain enemies to certain points in the story.

The terrible implications for everyone is the deal breaker.

      She is the reddit option
Goldmask is the Ganker option but since Marika's heaving breasts are much more pleasant to look at and discuss we orient the threads around that.
Plus the discussion on Ranni at this point is all mostly settled outside of "what was this character thinking when they did X" type stuff or if your the Darkmoon is an outer god schizo who has a hateboner for her.

The Ganker choice is Age of Stars because anons are actually good guys behind the absurdism. Some of you gays are the idiots thinking they are in good company we talk about.

    >Godwyn - "Friend of God" or simply "Good friend"
    >Godfrey - Consisting of "God" and "Peace", can be also interpreted as "God's peace"
    >Godrick - Consisting of "God" and "Ruler", so literally "God-Ruler" or could also be interpreted as "God-appointed ruler"
    >Miquella - Stems from arabic, translates to "One who passes the message of God"
    >Melina - stems from the greek word Méli, meaning "Honey", which often symbolizes divinity or richness
    >Marika - A name not tied to any one culture, it has multifarious meanings from all around the world. Interestingly enough, its hebrew meaning literally translates to "Rebellious woman"
    >Ranni - Stems from the sanskrit Rani, which means, quite unsurprisingly, "princess" or "queen"
    >Malenia - Arabic origin, interestingly meaning "Heir of the Sun"
    >Rogier - dutch origin, translates to "Famous Spear"
    >D(arian) - from the latin Darius, which in turn is derived from the persian Dârayavahush, which consists of "To possess" and "good", meaning this name could be interpreted to mean "Good person"
    >Kalé - Old english/german origin, literally means "free man"
    >Rykard - Old english, a form of Richard. Means "rich ruler" or "powerful/hard ruler"
    >Millicent - Old French origin meaning "brave strength"
    >Gurranq - Phonetically close to Gouranga, a Bengali word meaning 'golden-armed', and the name for an incarnation of Khrisna
    >Varre - scandinavian origin, interestingly a predominantly female name that is a variant of Vár, the name of a goddess of oaths and promises
    >Miriel - Not a very popular name in the real world, this is possibly just a reference to Tolkien's works, in which the elven name Miriel translates to "jewel-garlanded maiden"

It's surreal half this thread is one mentally ill samegay calling everyone a gold mask larper while implying the GW doesn't exist.

Yuck. My ex had heavy saggers like that and she never got a reduction. Shit was annoying seeing them sway in front of me while she was riding. Like b***h I can't see your face if your disgusting fat ugly breasts are bouncing around in the way.

That doesn't actually seem strange when reading the thread. The roleplay is really annoying and only hampers discussion.

Who, Mohg and the Formless Mother? He's on the chopping block too. If you mean the GO and the GW, you'd first need to prove the GW is evil.

        Or real.
