I think what you could do is make it so that Dante has a different base Devil Trigger depending on the Style he's using. Dreadnought could be his RGDT.
Because DMC4 is rushed as frick and Dante especially is clearly undercooked. What was the point of most of Lucifer's Swordmaster moves? Most of them are completely useless. Dante is really bad at dealing out damage so you end up relying on shit like Real Impact way too much.
Dante is laced out with so many pointless redundancies and useless mechanics in DMC4 that it's sort of ludicrous to me that there are still people who consider its gameplay to be the pinnacle of the series.

Christ, I WISH it had some redundancies. The best thing about 5Dante was the redundancies. Not every attack needs to be 100% unique. It's okay for each weapon to have a launcher. The thing that sucked the most about 4Dante was that you HAD to use all of his weapons just to put together a single functional movelist. I can't imagine trying to play 4 with nothing but Lucifer, for example, but I could play 5 with any melee weapon as my only melee weapon quite comfortably.
They all work different, but they retain many of the same basic utilities. That's important for weapon balance and 4 missed it.
That's a good point. You can pick just one of Dante's Devil Arms in 5 and run for several Bloody Palace floors or a mission, because each is well-rounded and has overlapping moves with other DA. I reached Floor 60 with Balrog alone (without guns), and I'm far from a "pro" player.
I wouldn't even say that any of DMC5 Dante's moves are redundant. A lot of attacks can fill similar functions while still being unique. Like King Cerberus launcher is different from the sword launcher but both can get you enemies in the air. The game has a good balance between moves being unique but also not essential.
I'm not a fan of it myself (never used it in my 3 loadouts, sans to break Cerberus's ice), but it is a decent in-betweener between E&I and the heavy guns (eg Kalina Ann).
Funnily enough although Qliphoth shrooms and Hell Judeccas might seems like they'd have attacks that do shocked and burning, they actually don't. I don't remember if Urizen's fireballs or Elder Geryon Knight have the status effects you would expect.
Nah, that's just knockback. Paralysis has stars circling around the character's head, a very elaborate animation and you can mash or DT to get out of it more quickly.

Also, noticed one thing recently. Turns out Goliath can "break" your non-timed RG even if you have the DT gauge to block the hit. Can anyone else do the same? I know Vergil's JCE cant be blocked with it too.
The game also has elemental damage and weaknesses but it's basically never noticeable outside of the mission 1 plant boss being weak to fire to teach you Nero's exceed mechanic.

Just finished DMD 3 and started 4 this week. Feels very sluggish to play as Nero, I don't hate him but he's not my favorite. When I got control of him back for 19 and 20 I was like you gotta be kidding me, what a tease, half the difficulty was no longer having styles and cool shit. Meanwhile Dante once I got a good feel for 4 styles at once, is pretty great, but I'm liking Vergil a lot especially compared to 3 where I wasn't crazy about him. Only beaten the normal modes so far but I'm gonna keep chipping away before I jump into 5. Very fun series, I wish I'd gotten into it years ago

That's because you gotta make use of the Devil Bringer, use it in conjunction with things like Calibur and the other movement attacks Nero has and he feels a lot better. Invest in those Bringer range upgrades
Nero isn't complete if you don't learn to Exceed. Revving is as important to him as switching weapons is for Dante. Once you're able to EX-Act and MAX-Act consistently you'll be flying all over the place with Nero. It's really addicting.
I think one way to expand on Styles is to kinda do what they did in DMC4. Each style, including Royal Guard, has its own meter. Once the meter's filled out, you can do something cuhrayzee.

Those are his slams making your character tumble down. Notice that Dante does block, and only gets damaged by the second hit.

Not sure if there are any. Actually, I'll have to check if Malphas and Artemis' big explosions can be blocked.
