One of the finest atmospheric games ever released. The combination of dark Gothic art style with Matt Uelmen's gripping tracks straight out of the pits of hell really tied the game in a golden bow.

How did they do it? So memorable, I still remember encountering The Butcher for the first time.
Many reasons. Us being so young, and the novelty of the aRPG genre. Especially more impactful if you listened to Farnham's drunken rambling about the Butcher when you first spawn in to town. By the time you actually reach the Butcher you likely forgot about what Farnham said.. until you remember. The game systems and atmospherics meshed incredibly well together. The "levels" being a slow descent into hell was also huge. By the time you got to hell you felt like you truly were down deep within the Earth.
Well put, it certainly helped that I played when very young, on PS1 too, such a good game.
Forgot to say that since you could see into the room but not the enemies, when you came across Butchers room you could see everyone impaled in it before you opened the door. The demonic booming voice of "ah fresh meat" when you cracked it open probably scared a lot of players.
You were 5 you played it. I played it for my fist time as a 20 year old and I thought it was ok.
It's because you were 12 kek now you're an old ass man
I'm glad Diablo 4 is going to return the series to its former glory.
0/10
The art in D4 is a huge upgrade. Plus we're finally getting open world Diablo.
Too bad they're never going to remaster this game.
sovl
I played D1 for the first time last year and I was blown away by the atmosphere and music. It's definitely not nostalgia it's just that fricking good.
There's a Diablo 1?
If someone were to make a Diablo 1 inspired game complete with crunchy 256-color palette and methodical pacing and all that good stuff, but the setting had nothing to do with demons/churches/catacombs, what setting would you choose?
accurately depicted national parks filled with cryptids and such
I like it. If accurately depicted, which parks particularly?
>Farnham is an ex-samurai
>Pippin is a shrine maiden
>Gillian is a geisha
Could work
What would you fight?
>What would you fight?
satans disciples
Actually decent idea.
Set in the 90's Maine or Oregon and add some Blair Witch inspiration.
youkai/shrines/tink tink tink tink tink tink donk donk YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
a synagogue
>nothing to do with demons/churches/catacombs
i'd make it an underwater deep sea horror game
>Matt Uelmen's gripping tracks
Whats up with the carnival music on the last levels though? Aside from that it's good.
Is DevilutionX worth bothering with?
It's not hard, so yes
Not that I'm irritated but why so many Diablo 1 threads lately? Did some e-celeb shit out a video or is Ganker improving?
I noticed it too. The threads usually have a fairly close post to IP count too, which makes me think a streamer or youtuber played it recently or something similar
>see butchers room
>clive barker shit
>open the door
>AHH FRESH MEAT
>yeah you fatfrick let's see what you got
>get hit for a quarter of my health
>ohno.jpeg
>run away
it's too bad it was easy to cheese the fight once you knew a few things about the game but putting a boss monster on floor 2 that hits that fricking hard was a hilarious move
wow that was a really boring greentext
yeah its almost as boring as watching a streamer play a video so you can vicariously enjoy their success you fricking zoomie Black person
Is there a genre for Diablo 1 clones that excludes games like PoE? Old school isoarpg, perhaps?
And recommend me some Similar games to D1
