Nah man Torchlight is a fun hack and slash series and when people were disappointed with diablo 3 torchlight was a good alternative
Skill system isn't trash it feels more like you're developing your character than in Grim Dawn where you level up and just keep getting stat boosts, passives, maybe a buff or debuff and ocasionally an active skill (I love grim dawn but the skill trees aren't very exciting while Torchlight leveling did have a tingle of 'oooh neat' to it)

Played an outlander in 2 and all I remember is constantly flip dodging which spawned shurikens that spawned more shurikens which used your crit values.
But Diablo 2 is already fun and not autistic

I've played millions of hours of diablo 2 but could never get into any of the torchlight games.

it's a good game world but a bad game.
to be fair, i don't know of many other future-themed ARPGs made in that era, so it has that going for it.
I liked Titan Quest a lot as much as D2 actually and even liked that german game Sacred to a degree.
I uninstalled Torchlight in an hour though. Never bothered with Torchlight 2.

All characters in torchlight are pretty much the same, skills moved around, that's it. In diablo, the skills at least feel different
fun for like 2 hrs, then you realize there's no substance to the game and it's going to go out with a whimper rather than a bang
The final quest proceeded to get bugged out, so i was more right than I thought
I remember this having a massive difficulty spike when you get to the snow area, but maybe that was just because of co-op scaling
