Diamond and Pearl

I’m the only one on this whole board that likes these games. Everything people say they dislike about them, I actually like.
They’re slow? Good. It contributes to the significantly more laid back pace of the games.
Mud/Snow slowing you down? Good. Adds to the immersion.
Fog cutting accuracy by 10%? Good. The game gives you no miss moves for a reason.
8 HMs? Good. I WANT to be given a new tool to explore the world after every gym.
Small dex? Good. Makes each Pokémon in the dex more memorable + gives you more mons to discover in the post game.
Same handful of mons permeate most areas? GOOD. Common encounters make sense, you need something to dilute the rare mons in.
Some mons require waiting till certain times/days? GOOD. You should need to conform to the rules of the world to catch mons, not the other way around.
These games are unironically good, people just expect games to bend over backwards to prioritize player convenience. You MUST be able to get to the next area ASAP, you CANNOT be required to use certain moves to avoid accuracy debuffs, you CANNOT be required to give up move slots to navigate the overworld, and the Pokémon NEED to be chilling in an easily findable patch of grass at high encounter rates, at all times. No exceptions, if these criteria aren’t met the game is “bad” because it made you do a thing you’d rather not have to do.

    Shit games.
I won't bother telling you why. Just start DP or BDSP and realize you;d have more fun playing Plat or a good romhack

      >Diamond and Pearl at the top
      >Platinum (the objectively better version) is last

BDSP shilling cant be more obvious than this

that poll was much earlier than BDSP came out
and most people dont care about 3-rd versions

I like bd but team choices kind of blow and there's so many battles you can have two teams of mons you really don't really want to play with. At least Luxray, iron fist infernape and Rotom are good and fun to play with.

Since we're doing a bizarro thread I'll go next:

SWSH are fantastic open world games with so much depth to their wild areas. Leon's a fantastically challenging and likeable champion and Rose is a enthralling villain with multiple layers of complexity to his character and motivations. The dexcut also kept the game simple, having 650 pokemon is MUCH better than having 900, keeps the game much tighter and simpler (those extra 250 mons would have been too much to be honest).

Rose was the best character. Anime lore confirms he was right all along. He seriously did nothing wrong in the games. I want a redemption arc where everyone admits he was right
      His 'fanart' is good too

Agreed. Not as good as R/S/E but i enjoyed them a lot and it is one of the mainline game i have played the most. Some things are better than in Platinum, most Plat sprites are frame 2 of D/P so they looks a bit off. I like the low variety of Pokemon because you are forced to find/train rare Pokemon if you want to build a different team, making it really rewarding. The only real flaw is the slowness of the engine, you are forced to disable move animations if you want a more dynamic gameplay.

I agree with you that those are all good things but Platinum also has them and feels more finished.

Honestly, I'm the same for a lot of it. The only things I actively dislike is specifically the surfing speed and the way the honey trees work, especially the fricking randomized location of Munchlax.

What are your thoughts on having two Fire-types and two Ice-types pre-National Dex? Is this good game design?

Having only 2 of a type is rather stingy but it’s not inherently bad game design or anything, some types have always been rare. There only being 2 ice types is probably for balance reasons, Garchomp is essentially the final boss, and since Ice types are the only hard counters to it they gotta keep them rare.

I’ll admit that the only slowness I don’t like is during battles. I don’t think it ruins the game or something but unlike the overworld slowness it’s just a slog and doesn’t really add anything. Also I actually agree that RSE are better, but not by much imo.

I like both those things. The slow surf speed is fine because you never really need to cross large bodies of water like in gen 3, setting it at walking speed was the right move imo. Also munchlax being nigh unobtainable is some shit I wish they’d do in newer games. Makes them feel genuinely actually rare, like simply getting one is a huge accomplishment.

Even though though they do have their flaws, ultimately they were some of the most well received games at the time of release in the series due to what they changed and added. I think people zoom into the negatives way too much to take a look at what they do offer.
My only complaint is that while there is a reason to go back to Ruby/Sapphire (eReader card compatibility) or B/W and S/M compared to their third versions, Platinum literally invalidates Diamond and Pearl. The only thing you cannot do in Platinum that you can do in Diamond/Pearl is My Pokemon Ranch, but that's literally only for non-Japanese versions of the games anyways.

I agree. DP are incredibly flawed games, but they are good games. They get way too much hate from there bandwagoners

You're wrong. I like Diamond and Pearl. I wouldn't be able to love Platinum if Diamon and Pearl didn't lie down a solid foundation.
