the third versions always sold less due to people who already bought the originals not being able to justify purchasing the same game a second time - even when it was objectively a better version. BW2 actually being actual sequels probably didn't affect the decisions of those folks much.
it's good they stopped making third versions because it was unquestionably anti-consumer
the two big reasons why B2W2 flopped are:

>piracy of DS games was incredibly easy and extremely widespread by the time they released
Also the DS was beyond old news by then, so nobody wanted to buy "outdated" games.
Considering the dream radar it seems they wanted you to play B2W2 on the 3ds
Also, the 3DS had already been out foe more than a year, so it's difficult to justify buying a full priced game for an outdated system. It would be like paying $60 for a Wii game in 2014.

Game freak Pokémon games sell a shit.ton of copies, even the lower selling games still sell more copies than some big Aaa games from other devs. So I don't understand this narrative that Game Freak is making games less like BW 2 based on sales numbers. So no, no Pokémon game they've made is a flop.
