why is it autism to never use an item? i wasn't "not using it because i wanted to collect them" i was not using them because they don't do fucking anything i need for my builds. it's way more tismatic to mass reply like a nagger
I didnt play survival, but just as the other anon I never used any of the buff items.
Kind of a Nu-vidya problem where the game in itself is piss easy as is, so there's no need for buffs
Its a pain in the ass but its worth it once you have the right perks. Handloader, Madbomber and Vigilant Recycler really opens the game up in terms of what you can do. The first one practically lets you shoot money out of a shotgun. Makes very good use for those Legion shekels you might have laying around. The later two when combined gives you a choice between unlimited plasma grenades or clusterbombs.
not having touched it just means you haven't realized the reloading bench's potential. you get a shitload of extra ammo out of it without having to visit vendors, and it's cheaper than flatout buying it. the cases are weightless so if you're throwing them away you're throwing away free ammo. i always grab all of the cases off enemies and vendors even if the ammo type is gay just because free ammo. also always buy all lead, scrap metal, tin cans, and all the primers.
i keep the tin cans mostly for the sierra madre martini, not so much the mad bomber perk or junk rounds, as tin cans are finite in the world, and i don't remember if any traders sell them, but junk rounds might be useful in a pinch.
later on being able to craft your own 12.7mm is super convenient, since the guy who sells the most of it is buried deep in the bowels of camp mccarran and i fucking hate walking to him. granted ammo is so abundant you're not likely running out of ammo of each type, so long as you're visiting vendors often and looting everything in sight. crafting just cuts down on that a bit while buffing your inventory with enough ammo to last two games.
there is also a mod that adds crafting recipes for the ammo variant types of explosive/armor piercing/hollow point at a slight cost/consumption rate of the ammo. that makes the game way more fun as you're not trying to conserve that special ammo as much like a stalker/metro type of game. i can't play without that mod now.
Same shit. In every single game I avoid using consumables because I'm totally gonna need them later. Fuck this shit. How do you conquer this mental struggle? I'm tired of it.
>How do you conquer this mental struggle?
Hopefully, you don't. It's modern day r/K selection in action.
We are wired for survival with quality of future life as a consideration.
all you have to do is understand modern game developers will never allow you to softlock your progress due to difficulty or having to plan your equipment. They fear the seething casual negative reviews like fire
Few games actually make me want to use consumables, because games kinda have to be designed without consumables in mind so long as they are in limited supply.
In Bethesda Fallout games, going into the pip boy and scrolling to find whatever stat buff I want to use is just gonna take more time than just not doing that and shooting the enemies instead.
On occasion there's a tough fight that I'll just psycho+jet through but those are pretty much the only drugs worth the effort
Abusing drugs in Fallout is powerful as hell and managing addictions adds for a fun challenge. I hate stoners druggies and alcoholics in real life but I'm always popping booze, psycho, med-x, and turbo nonstop in FNV
I think there were a couple of instances like Fallout 3's bomb defused quest. Other than that no, they're free caps. Jet on the other hand I pop like candy.
My current character is an addict to them I believe, and I've got a mod on that makes it so you can't remove addictions with a doctor (you HAVE to go cold turkey for a period of time). But inevitably I need the INT and PER so I end up chowing down on more. Drug addictions are fun (in videogames)
>I've got a mod on that makes it so you can't remove addictions with a doctor (you HAVE to go cold turkey for a period of time)
Oh that sounds cool, how does that work? Do you go into withdrawal periods?
The game already stimulates withdrawal by default once you're addicted to a substance, but yeah it just has a timer for the addiction to wear off (a few days by default) that resets if you take the drug again.
Fixer doesn't remove the addiction, but does temporarily remove the debuffs. I also had a mod installed that made it so you can't fast travel if you have any debuffs on you (damaged limbs, withdrawal symptoms, radiation poisoning etc) so I had to choose between trying to kick an addiction and take the long way to travel, or getting another hit so I could save time.
>Did you ever eat mentats in a fallout game?
only early game. otherwise i like to bring them along with any other clutter that isn't nailed down back to my house and decorate.
I always carry a dose or two of med-x and nuka quantum. sometimes shit gets hairy and you need to stay on your feet. Same with Heart+ in starfield.
Otherwise I don't want to deal with the addiction bullshit. But if I bite off more than I can chew I have an emergency buff combo. Nothing like morphine and radioactive bepis
Classic Fallout? Sometimes, but for skills checks
FNV? Half of the time. I'd often be addicted to at least 2 things. God bless Logan's Loophole.
4? Yes, until I max out my SPECIAL.
Fallout 4's chems are pretty useful, especially in my bullshit difficulty mod setup I use. Jet slo-mo is a life saver because I removed VATs and if I'm not in power armor enemies drop me in 2-3 hits
In NV yes, sometimes there were locks or speech checks where you needed a certain, lockpick, sci or speech level and mentats buffed it by a few points combined with other items helped hit some checks.
didnt dabble with chems that much in SP games
but I had a Junkies build for my 76 character for 1.5 years and for the build you had to be addicted to 5 addictives
you could minmax 3 of 'em, as there were 3 addictions that basically did nothing, but the last 2 you had to pick your poison
I opted for Pscyho and Alcohol, it was fun to pop psycho everytime before major battles and going out of my way to find it from time to time
the build is gone now as they nerfed the affix and I havent played in a year anyways
>Heavily modded New Vegas >Popping cigs left & right >Kings member offers me some jet for some segs >Quickly become addicted to 2-4 chems at any given time >Scour the Mojave for my next hits >Trip out at the visual effects when taking 5+ drugs at once
I sure do love feeling the consequences of my actions in fiction land. IRL, I hate my need for dab cartridges.
This pretty much.
I never felt the need to raise any stats through drugs, except for healing spam items during combat that give me +1 Endurance or stuff like that.
Even then, to be honest I didn't feel the difference.
yup special shouldve been used as a stat limiter for skills it never made sense that you could have 100 in speech and barter but 1 charisma. 1 CHR = 10 max in that stat with a savant background trait that lets you pick 1 skill to be leveled despite special level
SPECIAL is a redundant system taken from a pen and paper game. Its not needed anymore and was full of redundancy in the real time 3d action Fallouts. If Bethesda was actually any good at their job there isn't any scenario where a simpler Perk based system focused on actual gameplay gimmicks wouldn't be better.
Instead they were lazy and everything is +10% Weapon loading or Lasers make enemies they kill explode.
Its a 3d action title. your options for Roleplay shouldn't be limited by a system designed and intended for simulating fairly basic, turn based action economy.
it's not a contradiction is the fact that role playing is not when you level up and increase your stats despite what steam tags would want you to believe

Yes!
Mentats + Party Mentats + Wine + Naughty Nightwear + Meeting People (with comprehension perk) = +44 speech.
This will save your ass when roleplaying a socially awkward character with 13 Speech.
I miss my irl addictions, bros... I was a daily meth user for years and years. I used to shoot it, but that was really gross honestly. What was really awesome though was boofing a slick lil half gram of ice with my exgf and engaging in some disgustingly degrading sexual escapades. She stole my car :/
It's been years since I've played NV. Any recent overhauls/mods good enough to convince me to redl I should look into?
Yeah, I use mentats to let myself pick locks at 25 or 35. Piss poor but shotgun reloading cowboy is working very well so far. >tfw this NVB Navy Colt fucking rocks with .44 SWC
it's one of the best quest mods for new vegas
and that's saying something because new vegas has tons of quest mods
check out the author's other mods too
New Vegas Killer is my favorite
man I swear some mod authors care more than bethesda about world building >playing NV with simply uncut after bringing the law back to prim >some NCR deserters break into the the casino >options are kill, get them to fuck off, fuck off and hide, or surrender to the NCR >if you got primm to join the NCR the deserters are taken to prison because they have enough man power to manage them >if you chose other options for primm the NCR executes them instead because they dont have room for prisoners
even better
once you deal with the deserters the casino get reopened after a week so that's another casino to get kicked out of after robbing them blind
Did you hear about the NCF mod too? it expanded the powder ganger faction massively ton of voiced and repurposed lines got banned from nexus for having female players get raped too much. author got mad and let the loverslab people work on it and now they animated all the rape fucking lmao
lmao
https://www.loverslab.com/topic/159922-ncr-cf-sexout-version-25-by-macaca22/
I tried it its very compatible with simply uncut BUT one location gets covered up by the entrance of a new block so you have to noclip to it. aside from that the extra dialogue trees between both mods work perfectly together.
If you're new to the sexlab/sexout stuff its not too bad there's just a lot of separate mod requirements. might be a good idea to download mods separately and remerge them into a single zip to make bug chasing easier
This is me. Though I will take a drug to pass a skill check but that's it. I have to remind myself to use grenades.
Someone never tried the limitless mod. taking 20 different drugs and running into fights 30 levels behind with a knife becomes a very viable build
even better
once you deal with the deserters the casino get reopened after a week so that's another casino to get kicked out of after robbing them blind
>Not larping as NV heisenberg >SCI, MEDICINE, REPAIR >Four eyes, skilled >Max Int >Take all perks to make drugs >take nerd rage >become drug lord and turn vegas into a crack den while being the main producer and consumer
Larping as a drug based lifeform is too fun, if you wanna make it even more fun no fixer allowed >NGMI
I just forget to take drugs in the game. I'll get enough psycho, med-x, and whatever else for combat, and I just forget to take them after a while because I keep having to dig through my inventory for them and it's usually little issue to just keep shooting. Mentats are fairly useful for the slight skill bonuses, but it really doesn't take long before they're no longer necessary.
Yes, I used to save some to dialogue with the guy who wants revenge in beyond the beef and the girl who wants to steal her parent's money in someone to watch over me
Nope, I've never really felt the need to use enhancing consumables in vidya in general. They just end up decorating my inventory.
In FO4 I hoard Mentats because the survival overhaul mod I use allows me to break them down into pharmaceutical ingredients, which I can then use to craft some sorely needed medical supplies once my Medicine skill improves enough.
>In FO4 I hoard Mentats because the survival overhaul mod I use allows me to break them down into pharmaceutical ingredients, which I can then use to craft some sorely needed medical supplies once my Medicine skill improves enough.
all you ever need in horizon is bandages. For all the big debuffs you can circle around docs to remove them. God knows that without settlement wankery you will be scraping so few bullets together that you can never make really large, map circling scavenger runs
Mentats are easily my least used of the normal chems across all of the games. But I love using chems in general, and I think consumable items with pros and cons in games are alot of fun. I use grape mentats alot in 4 though, really no reason not to every time you go to the store
Only game I found drugs and magazines in general useful was new vegas to access locks, computers, recipes or skill checks otherwise out of reach. It was quite fun also planning your skill point spending accordingly, so that you could delay investing in one skill even by 20 points provided that you had consumables at hand. Other than that, consumables are pretty lame in any Bethesda game, especially Starfield I've just found out (I just keep two of them each in the inventory, sell the rest, use the one matching the symbol of my current illness once in a while without even reading the name or description)
I use them liberally. I used to hoard items “for the right time” now i just use them whenever it’s slightly useful. Its so much more fun playing this was
i never used chems in fallout except stimpaks. Never felt they really made a difference, or if they did it wasn't enough to justify taking the time to open your inventory every 30 seconds to use a new cocktail of them whenever the first set wears off. It's better used sold. I've really never had an encounter in any fallout game where drugs were vital to survival, excepting some stupid scenarios that only come when you're just fucking around like running into quarry junction at level 1
Nah, the only time I ever used them was when I challenged myself to play F3 with every single addiction at once, eating every chem as soon as I've got my hands on them. My chars just typically have high intelligence and the other chems are more useful.
you don't really want to keep track of stuff that way in fallout. you can see how that would work right now with cigarette/bud smoking FO4 mods and all it does is clutter your chem tab.
>literally make the play on words >lol dey 2 dum 2 c :^)
anon plz. I actually didn't realize menta was a word for mint so you made it click why the boxes are green. the different flavors you have to make and that's why they're named for their flavor.
Playing a melee focused character and then ingesting like several different drugs at once if you get ambushed to give you bullet time and the ability to turn people into paste with a meat cleaver is very fun.
Yeah, the berry ones in 4 since they gave a big charisma boost which benefitted trading making it more profitable to take them when a caravan arrived and I was selling a bunch of stuff.
In Fo4, no, cant remember the rest. Stimpak , rad-x, radaway for healing and jet, med-x, psycho for combat sometimes. The rest goes into the locker, I just cant bother with cooking food chems or grenades etc in fallout or any other game. Only using the frag grenade as well.
>decide to mod FO4 again >get everything stable >decide to try vault 88 for supply line autism >constant crashes through and after leaving
what the fuck is wrong with this DLC. the killall trick didn't seem to do anything but stop the save freezing.
yea, would pop some when i was sneaking through a high traffic area so i could get a better read on where enemies were
the increased perception was nice for crits too
i used drugs to increase stats and booze to increase carry weight, then there's med-x and rad-x you should be taking those as well, unless your on a baby difficulty or something >end up with 100's of stimpacks anyways
dude
think you mean "dune"
I always use chems in Fallout, they are really good.
>did you ever use those game breaking items?
older fallout yes, skill checks
3-NV no, easy to max out stats
4 yes, no stat cap
Nope, I compulsively horde items instead. Besides stimpak and radaway don't think I have ever used a consumable or explosive in any of these games.
Same
explosive only run in fallout nv is super fun
you have to get the perk that lets you craft nades from energy cells pretty quick though
Personally I find that just tin grenades with a grenade cooking mod or preferably a less bouncy grenades mod is good enough
autism
why is it autism to never use an item? i wasn't "not using it because i wanted to collect them" i was not using them because they don't do fucking anything i need for my builds. it's way more tismatic to mass reply like a nagger
I find that very hard to believe, especially in Survival Mode
I didnt play survival, but just as the other anon I never used any of the buff items.
Kind of a Nu-vidya problem where the game in itself is piss easy as is, so there's no need for buffs
and rad x sometimes and buffout for increasing my carry capacity
i've never touched the crafting system and always discarded the case rounds
i made ammo for the first time in 400 something hours and its actually pretty useful
I used hydra when limbs kept breaking and I had no stimpaks
Yes
beta posts.
goodsprings
looted
all unusable ammo made into primer powder and lead
its fucking primm time
Same, except like once in a while I use buffout to raise my strength when I'm hoarding shit I wanna sell
A horde is a group of people.
A hoard is a collection of items.
You're literally me
Same shit. In every single game I avoid using consumables because I'm totally gonna need them later. Fuck this shit. How do you conquer this mental struggle? I'm tired of it.
use them whenever you die or need them until you have 1-3 left and then you satisfy both needs
Man I dunno about that try playing DM without bloodymess or a high gun skill you would have to lower the difficulty or else you're fucked
vats invalidates difficulty
>low gun skill
>miss
>miss
>miss
>dead
with a high melee weapons skill you can just bash ghost people with knife spears and get endless drugs and stimpaks from the vending machines
There is a fire axe in the bathroom close to the start of Dead Money. Makes enemies non issue. Don't need melee skill either.
skill issue
This is me. Though I will take a drug to pass a skill check but that's it. I have to remind myself to use grenades.

Same. I have a bunch of bent tin cans in my home storage just in case Old Man Jenkins in Rivet City needs 80 of them to fix a water leak or something.
I remember having 100+ of every drug in my inventory when playing fallout 3. If it didn't have weight, I'd have tons of it
Abusing drugs in Fallout is powerful as hell and managing addictions adds for a fun challenge. I hate stoners druggies and alcoholics in real life but I'm always popping booze, psycho, med-x, and turbo nonstop in FNV
>explosive
with the arc perk they're pretty good up to the mid game, but once you start using them you constantly run out.
no, lol. not once actually
Hoarded until I found a skill check that I didn't have enough points for then used.
i use grape mentats occasionally if there's a speech check i want to pass
I think there were a couple of instances like Fallout 3's bomb defused quest. Other than that no, they're free caps. Jet on the other hand I pop like candy.

Yeah, grape mentats, when I do a shop run to buy or sell gear.
Only mint-als.
I understood that reference.
the berry one is missing a normal map
i'd have a very good raisin to, they're quiet delicious
>This writing made troons dilate themselves from laughter
Ganker used to love it too, you know. Then everything fun became "reddit".
>being gay was cool back then, schizo!
Been playing 76 and I slam mentats all day every day. Even cut that shit with some psycho or buffout.
>never used med-x, jet or psycho

I always carry a dose or two of med-x and nuka quantum. sometimes shit gets hairy and you need to stay on your feet. Same with Heart+ in starfield.

Can't you remove Logan's Loophole with the Sink Auto-doc? Figure it'd be great to abuse it until you hit level cap, then remove it for 20 more levels.
I never use chems in any Fallout
Only in New Vegas and only because skill checks. There's no reason to consume it in 3 or 4.
Retard
Chems in NV were really strong so I used them all the time but I never really felt like I needed them in 4.
The only chems you take in Troon Vegas is estrogens
i want to destroy that homosexuals asshole
>You're suffering from anal sex withdrawal.
That's dangerous. You saw what happened to Chris' family
psychojet in 4 is the only reason i ever played more than 5 hours of it
Fallout 4's chems are pretty useful, especially in my bullshit difficulty mod setup I use. Jet slo-mo is a life saver because I removed VATs and if I'm not in power armor enemies drop me in 2-3 hits

Of course not, what if I need them for a REALLY hard fight?
Those 150 mentats in my stash will come in handy then, can't waste them carelessly.
Yeah, I use mentats to let myself pick locks at 25 or 35. Piss poor but shotgun reloading cowboy is working very well so far.

Someone never tried the limitless mod. taking 20 different drugs and running into fights 30 levels behind with a knife becomes a very viable build
That's in the vanilla game not from the mod
yeah I was talking the ncr reacting thats not in the base game
Ah I see, it's been a while since I've played it
>Not larping as NV heisenberg
>SCI, MEDICINE, REPAIR
>Four eyes, skilled
>Max Int
>Take all perks to make drugs
>take nerd rage
>become drug lord and turn vegas into a crack den while being the main producer and consumer
Larping as a drug based lifeform is too fun, if you wanna make it even more fun no fixer allowed
>NGMI
no
I just forget to take drugs in the game.
In FO4 I hoard Mentats because the survival overhaul mod I use allows me to break them down into pharmaceutical ingredients, which I can then use to craft some sorely needed medical supplies once my Medicine skill improves enough.

all you ever need in horizon is bandages.
Other than that, consumables are pretty lame in any Bethesda game, especially Starfield I've just found out (I just keep two of them each in the inventory, sell the rest, use the one matching the symbol of my current illness once in a while without even reading the name or description)
>before
SOUL
>after
SOULLESS
new vegas and 3 yes, to pass perception checks and pick locks
4 no
I didn't play the boomer ones
I never use any chems, I hate temporary boosts.
i took every single drug and smacked lanius about thirty times with a rolling pin
the mentats were among them even though I don't think they helped
My chars just typically have high intelligence and the other chems are more useful.
>when I challenged myself to play F3 with every single addiction at once
Sounds rad, how was it?
I just used them as cash, same with the other drugs
I find it weird that you always ate the whole box each time you use them, this has even been the case in the classic games.
you don't really want to keep track of stuff that way in fallout. you can see how that would work right now with cigarette/bud smoking FO4 mods and all it does is clutter your chem tab.
Nope, sold them for more bullets
>But anon, what about skill che-
If it can't be solved with a bullet, then it's not worth solving.
>MENTAts
>flavors that aren't MENTA (mint)
what did they mean by this
The "Menta" stands for Mental. They should be brain flavoured.
It's a play word on menta and mental, a drug that tastes like mint, but of course Bethesda was too stupid to see that.
>literally make the play on words
>lol dey 2 dum 2 c :^)
anon plz. I actually didn't realize menta was a word for mint so you made it click why the boxes are green. the different flavors you have to make and that's why they're named for their flavor.
There are several real world mint candy brands like Mentos that offer fruit flavors.
how does a breathmint make you more charismatic anyways? what the fuck are the lacing mentats with?
>how does a breathmint make you more charismatic anyways?
it hides your smelly breath
Playing a melee focused character and then ingesting like several different drugs at once if you get ambushed to give you bullet time and the ability to turn people into paste with a meat cleaver is very fun.
Yeah, the berry ones in 4 since they gave a big charisma boost which benefitted trading making it more profitable to take them when a caravan arrived and I was selling a bunch of stuff.
Caps were more important, I needed them for surgeries at Steel Bros.
+2 Special isn't really worth it most of the time. Jet was better but not amazing. I do like combat drugs as a system but addiction is annoying.
I've never used an aid item that wasn't a stimpak, doctor's bag, radaway, rad-x, or stealth boy
No I am drug free. Doing drugs is ultra cringe
I never do crafting. Are any of the crafted drugs worth it?
Yes they're OP
Rushing Water in NV is pretty good. Pair that with an upgraded Dead Horse club and go to town on some fuckers.
Psycho jet is the shit
>decide to mod FO4 again
>get everything stable
>decide to try vault 88 for supply line autism
>constant crashes through and after leaving
what the fuck is wrong with this DLC. the killall trick didn't seem to do anything but stop the save freezing.
yea, would pop some when i was sneaking through a high traffic area so i could get a better read on where enemies were
the increased perception was nice for crits too
Yeah, the ones that give CHA were especially useful.
Yes, i like to use my stacks of hoarded drugs to make even stronger drugs if possible.
Every time I encounter a tough fight in Fallout, I take all of the drugs. Addiction is super easy to fix.
i used drugs to increase stats and booze to increase carry weight, then there's med-x and rad-x you should be taking those as well, unless your on a baby difficulty or something
>end up with 100's of stimpacks anyways
>Since you haven't pissed yourself I'll assume that you don't know who we are - next time I'll bring my sickle and wear my black cloak.
