    No, you didn't beat it as intended, so you didn't really beat it... however, that doesn't really matter as much as one might think it does, as long as you're having fun it doesn't matter if your completion has an asterisk to it.

    does it matter? it's not like you're streaming or trying to prove yourself to anyone. if you really want to save state and beat an old game no one really gives a shit. and you see the ending. the question really should be do you feel like you've beaten the game if you've used save states. in that case, no.

    I only use save states as a means to quit the game if I need to stop playing and there's no save point immediately accessible. Sometimes I use fast forward to skip unskippable cutscenes if I died and have to watch it again. Also, I'll rarely use FF if I'm grinding.
