>actually couldn't formulate a proper response
??? it was red dead 2, I had manage to avoid everything somehow before I started it and he just spills the beans immediately.
is it immature to care about spoilers? for a game? I felt like a fricking moron man but I was pissed

that dutch leaves arthur to die/micah kills that older lady
I figured arthur wouldn't be around based off red dead 1 but I didn't want to know how it happens, especially that fricking part 🙁

It doesn't matter if it's immature or not. If he respected you as a friend should, he wouldn't have done that to you, unless this is the first time he's ever done it.

This. Whether it's stupid or not, if you care about it and wanted to experience it a certain way, he should respect it.

No. The answer is you are both moronic. He shouldn't spoil shit amd you are a beta b***h for not having convictions.

if a story is good, it can only be spoiled by telling the entire thing.

knowing snape kills dumbledore doesn’t spoil harry potter. it puts a question in your mind and then pulls the wool out from under you afterward.
its about HOW things happen, not the things themselves

It changes the experience tho, the narrative wasn't constructed for you to have this information and try to pierce together what led to that, it's supposed to surprise you when it happens and getting spoiled ruins this moment, it doesn't ruin the whole story but it diminishes the impact of a crucial moment, the fricker who spoiled it to you got to enjoy the surprise the way it was intended so it's not fair to go "it doesn't ruin anything chill bro"

I've never understood the concept of spoilers. If the twist or surprise story beat is good enough you can still appreciate it for what it is. If it's not good enough then why would you give a shit?

When I was a kid I would ask my friends what happens in the story of a game if they beat it before me. Finding out ahead of time never took anything away from the experience of playing through it myself.

      This guy gets it.

Knowing and not knowing are two different experiences, you can experience the perspective of knowing on rewatching or replaying something, but the fresh experience is only possible once.

I'm not sure I agree. Since it's sort of relevant right now, I'll use an example.
When Gears of War 3 came out, a friend of mine beat it before me. He told me that Dom died. I was shocked. I thought he was a cool chatacter and I had grown to like him during the previous games.
It took absolutely nothing away from experiencing that characters death myself firsthand. It still hit me like a punch in the gut. I still didn't know it was going happen when it did. I still fricking love that entire sequence. Because knowing or not knowing it was going to happen isn't what made it impactful. It was everything that lead up to it that mattered.

Of course it's not immature to care about spoilers, knowing a spoiler will completely change the way you engage with the story going forward and your expectations lol, your friend is a moron. The "knowing spoilers shouldn't affect the experience!!" thing is a peak midwit trap.

I tend not to care about spoilers personally, but I recognize the value in experiencing things blind, and I derive great joy from seeing other people put the puzzle together when I already have the answer. That moment of dawning comprehension is what I live for.

What does that even mean? That you'll still finish the game even if he's ruined it for you?
Obviously spoilers affect you. You said you were pissed so you should have probably told him that.

    >spoiling an upcoming event 5-10 seconds away
kind of an butthole move, bro

why even bother letting me play the game then

Spoilers are usually a meme, but it's actually bad for mysteries. A big part of the appeal is trying to figure out how the pieces fit together on your own before the reveal.

I play the game for the whole experience.
Being spoiled on something just takes me out of it, because I just keep thinking "is this when this happens?" instead of just enjoying the game.

You got buttholes who don’t think for friends is all. I talk about games all the time with people behind me in them, and I’m always conscious of not telling them more than they need.

As always, this can be explained with an American food analogy
    >Eating a burger with friend
    >He casually removes the meat patty from my burger, shoves it down my throat
    >ask him what the frick
    >bro it doesnt matter if you ate the patty first, you're eating it all anyways it doesnt affect your stomach in any way tell me why you hate eating the burger meat first
    >sit there eating my meat-less bun trying to think of a proper response

Stories are constructed to be experienced in sequence. morons who dont care about spoilers are the same people who coasted their way through highschool by looking up wikipedia synopses of books to write their report instead of actually bothering to learn anything from the text
