Persona 5 is zoomer/millennial trash. It’s like SMT but with participation trophies instead of challenging and fulfilling gameplay.

I can’t tell if that’s sarcasm because I’m slightly moronic, and new to both series, but either way, I stand by my previous statement.

Everyone blows the difficulty of all Megaten games out of proportion. Most Persona games are easier, but it isn’t saying much when the series isn’t as ball breaking as some like to say it is. Both mainline and Persona both have challenging moments. Also the whole franchise is occult millennial/zoomer trash.

Yeah, in fact I think every SMT just has thet one meme "filter" and then that's it except for the occasional instant death ambush

also kinda related, but mostly I just really like this video:

The difficulty exaggeration came from the dogshit word of mouth that surrounded Nocturne back in the day and I have no idea why that "THIS HARDCORE JRPG WILL RAPE YOUR MOTHER" reputation lasted as long as it did. it wasn't even a part of Atlus' marketing

indeed, the entire series is rather pretty fair and hits just right for difficulty with a reasonable amount of ballbusting boss fights the first time around. that part shouldn't be taken away, its just a shame people make it into something its not

The first 20 hours of SMT V were waaay harder than the first 20 hours of Persona 5. I had never played any SMT games before and didn’t use any guides or anything. Only if I got totally stuck for an extended period of time did I ever reach for google. Persona 5 on the other hand, feels like an interactive cringe fest anime movie with tiring exposition and mindlessly easy RPG elements. Maybe at some point the game becomes more difficult. Doubt I’ll make it there though.

Prior to playing these games the last turn based RPGs I played were FF 7,8 and 9, many many years ago. I remember all of those games being much easier than SMT V. I’m playing through the FF7 remake right now and it too is pretty easy (so far).

I lost track of how many times I got totally wasted by a run of the mill baddie in SMT V. That game was ruthless up until the very end but super rewarding for me at the same time. I can’t wait for an HD remake or the next game in the series.

Name a turn based RPG harder than SMT V.

        >SMTV is so hard bros
Strange journey on the original DS would fricking destroy you if you think 5 is hard. Persona 5 and SMT5 are on par in terms of difficulty, both have challenging moments (especially on their highest difficulties) but are both very tame.

This. I love V, and SMT in general, but by comparison, Strange Journey is crushing. Mem Aleph in particular was a huge c**t, but I was also teambuilding kind of moronicly.

Also this. I think the games just simply punish you for not engaging with the mechanics, which unfortunately filters the average AAA gamer who probably isn't used to that.

It really kind of like Dark Souls. People hype up the difficulty, but once you get grasp on the mechanics, it becomes much more manageable. Your first exposure will likely be the hardest to play

SJ isn't difficult. He's moronic, and so are you. Meme Aleph being a shitty boss doesn't change that.

          >Strange Journey
I don't really play hand held games so I'll never play this unless they release it for switch.

After 20 hours I can't agree that Persona 5 is anywhere near as difficult as SMT5. Maybe it's because SMT5 was my very first exposure to the series. I haven't even come close to dying in P5. In SMT if you flub a single turn early on in each area you're TOAST.

          [...]
Also all of megaten is cringe fest anime. The only difference is that Persona focuses less on the occult side, and has its focus on characters and dialogue. The whole franchise is cringe anime shit, but that’s why I personally love it.

There were definitely some cringe moments in SMT5 but at least you got to indirectly punch Dazai in the face at the end.

In SMT you can literally fight and kill fricking SHIVA, trident and all. Name another hame where you can kill Shiva with Beezlebub. These aren't just pathetic anime LARPs. There are historical religious figures in SMT5 with deep significance.

I don't even think you've played much SMT. Not even trying to be elitist, but having the shitfest of V in such a high standard...

Correct. It's the first and only SMT game I have ever played. I've played a lot of other turn based RPGs though. More than anything I'm just horribly disappointed by Persona 5 so far. Thinking about getting Nocturne.

This. You guys should read the original book that started it all. It's literally a teenage fanfic power fantasy where he fricks a goddess and beats up Loki.

See, that just sound epic to me.

See I thought Nuwa was way harder than hydra.

Can you really be a filter 2/3 through the game?

            >these are important figures
            >name another game
So I take it that Yaldabaoth for instance isn’t an important figure in theology, and Nyarlathotep isn’t a huge figure in modern horror fiction? Megaten has always paid homage and respect to real world myths, modern urban legends, and fictional creations, and Persona is no exception. Gods and Eldritch horrors have always been bosses in Persona as well. Also, I hate to burst your bubble considering that you’re new, but the Demons in SMT are very much like Shadows in Persona (aside from the fact that they are the same monsters in both series), and both are born from the desires and darkness in humanity. And their significance usually boils down to “who do I side with, and who is my enemy” at the end of the day.

Posts like this make me wish Megaten never went mainstream in the west. There was always arguments back in the day over which series was the best…. But never gaygatory like this….. take me back……

Probably because the first 20 hours of Persona 5 are unskippable dialogue.

SMT aren't difficult. Unless you equate difficulty with
    >grinding
    >having pre-knowledge of what you need and then just doing exactly that, which comes from trial and error or looking at guides, at which point any monkey can do it
    >abusing broken ai

Persona 5 is especially piss easy
I know a lot of people are arguing that SMT games aren't as bad as they're made out to be and they're right
But I had to start the game on Hard to glean any iota of challenge from P5 and the only reason I never went to Merciless was that I didn't want to scrap the save if Merciless was poorly balanced
