Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter Release Date and Starter Decks Announced

No card game has captured the interest of players and collectors alike more than Ravensburger's upcoming Disney card game, Disney Lorcana. Now, Ravensburger announced that the card game will be released this year starting in August 2023.

IGN has learned exclusively that Disney Lorcana will be released in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany starting this August with Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter.

On August 18th in the United States, Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will be released in local game stores followed by a mass retail launch on September 1. Attendees at this year's Gen Con 2023 will also have an opportunity to purchase select Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter products.

At launch, over 200 game cards will be available in various products including starter decks, booster packs, a gift set, and the "Illumineer's Trove."

There will be three different Starter decks available at launch, each with a specific list of 60 cards in two of the six "inks" which include Amber and Amethyst, Emerald and Ruby, or Steel and Sapphire. Think of them as different colors in games like Magic: The Gathering. Starter decks will also include one booster pack with 12 randomized cards, with one foil card and two cars with rare, super rare, or legendary rarity.

The Illumneer's Trove is set to be the biggest collectible set at launch, which will include eight booster packs, two deck boxes, a player's guide, and a themed storage box. The gift set will feature Mulan and Hades, two oversized foil cards, two foil game cards, four booster packs, and game tokens.

Isn't this just gonna be a kaijudo clone

Yes, and Kaijudo was mechanically identical to Duel Masters. Kaijudo failed because the art was shit, the show was shit, and the marketing was shit. The gameplay itself is fine.

if its a duel masters clone im in, that game is sick. Hopefully we get some cool cards with two paragraphs of text on em and not just super simple stuff.

They will never have card names as cool as Duel Masters did.
          >Super explosive volcanodon
          >Rothus the Traveler
every one sounded like an indie metal band.

Personally I would rather die than give money to disney, but you cannot deny that this is a golden era for TCGs. Curious how pandemic outbreaks didnt kill the genre but opened the opportunity for many online communities to fluorish. We will see 2023 and 2024 what will bring to the table of tcgs.

FOR FRICK SAKE WHY HAS DISNEY GIVEJ UP ON KINGDOM HEARTS
THEY RUINED FROZEN IN KH3 BUTBNOW THEY DO ALL THOS ALT REALITY FANTASY STUFF

THIS WOULD BE PERFECT IF IT WAS KH....

KH is too focused on Nomura's wild ride of belt/zipper/plaid wearing OCs. If it got back to being about Disney worlds sure, but right now I'm glad it's not involved. OCs should be an excuse to mash Final Fantasy and Hercules together, not the fricking focus beyond the first and last world.

I agree. Because the kh4 trailer was so cancer I blocked it from my mind. I didn't didn't know it existed even though I'd seen it.

I've been playing kingdom hearts talisman and it adapts kh1. It reminded me just how much disney was in kh1 compared to kh3. God dammit. I just want kh1 again, we could do that and alternative versions of Disney characters now Disney is clearly more open to changing them as seen in their mobile game and this card game.

I'm so sad over kh state, I was replaying CoM and even that has so much classic Disney joy in it.
I want dreamworks to get a kh game at this point. But Disney owns it, not square Enix. They should boot nomura now, keep him as a art director

kingdom hearts fans are some of the most unhinged fans on the internet, they can not for the absolute life of them admit that the thing they like is objectively silly and bad, and then just go on liking it anyway. It's fine if you like things that are silly and bad. But KH fans can't accept that. Their brains are too simple. Their subconscious goes something like "I like KH. If I like it and it's bad, that mean's *I'm* bad. So KH must be good, because I am not bad."

that's just not helpful banter, there's no way that the thing you like isn't bad and not perfect neither

Disney is shit but so is WotC and Konami. I hate all three of them; not equally but I hate each of them enough to not want either to succeed or to desire to support any of them even at the expense of the other. Still my hatred for Disney has nothing to do with TCGs so it would be interesting to see if they do something new in the industry.

this is done by ravensburger x disney btw. So it's a toy company like hasbro (who owns wizards).
I am incredibly interested, hopefully I will get people to play it. But not sure what to buy. Probably two decks and the trove.

Ironic ks comments on this thread as KH3 ranks second among KH games with the most important and least filler Disney worlds after KH1, with the Disney worlds being more important than the 100% filler worlds of KH2.

"Sapphire and Steel have been assigned..."

No, seriously... Disney CCG? No dice. Ravensburger isn't automatically bad, but this is not relevant to my interests.

it's gonna be a basic b***h game btw, they need to sell this to kids

All paper card games are this nowadays, at least western ones, the "game" is just an excuse to sell the collectible. Pokemon is like this and MTG is turning into this.

They said in the opening press release that the game is going out of its way to be casual-friendly and lower the skill ceiling so that competitive players aren't wildly more powerful than casual players.

        >lower the skill ceiling so that competitive players aren't wildly more powerful than casual players.
What sort of moronic logic is that? It's a card game not MMA. The only thing separating a casual from a competitive player is the ability to read the rules and not be a brainlet.

How has it captured the interest of players when it isn't even out yet?

You've never read the rules of a game or seen it played, and then became interested in it?
I don't think Lorcana has actually shown off gameplay or released their rules though, so it's a fricking mystery how anyone but die hard Disney fans and speculators care about the game.

As described in a couple previous threads about this, Lorcana is just Disney Infinity but flat. This is the game to get Disney people into the CCG space.

nta but i am looking forward to it because from the outside it looks like a successor to Kingdom Hearts, and i would love to get in on a new TCG from the ground floor

It's like when they were designing Kingdom Hearts, they thought how can we make Final Fantasy even gayer?

Given the sheer number of worst case scenarios currently occurring in /tg/ spaces, I'm going to say it's a wild success and completely usurps the competition.
