      Some new playable characters, so that Nero can have his own (alive) cast of characters besides Nico instead of just working with Dante's allies

      Richer customization, additional content and more ways for players to enjoy the combat. DMC5's one fatal flaw is that it has some of the most fun combat ever, but you're so limited in how you actually get to enjoy it.

      Why did modders have to add the ability to play as any character in any mission? This inclusion should have been a no brainer.
      Why are secret missions still so boring and bad? They could be much more fun and elaborate.
      Why was full-blown co-op implemented, yet only 2 fricking missions actually used it?
      Why is Bloody Palace still the only extra mode? Give us weird shit like playing levels backwards with new encounters or something

      There's so much room for improvement here, stuff like finally adding a training mode is a step in the right direction, but boring gimmick difficulties like Heaven or Hell just isn't enough.

        You wanna play 100 missions of V?

        They're still designed so that you will complete them while going through the level. They should have better rewards for that, like give you a mission bonus.

          This isn't really a problem anymore since you can play them off the main menu after unlocking them now. I'd much rather see secret missions be more elaborate proper missions, even if that meant getting less of them. I can't really think of a secret mission I've ever enjoyed enough to want to replay.

            That's just a QoL feature so that you don't get stuck on 'em or can complete them whenever you want, they weren't intended for you to replay them like that.

            I get where you're coming from but if you're going to make secret missions that big... just make more missions.

      -Playable Dante, Nero and Vergil with parallel story modes you can hop between freely between missions. Final boss is unlocked when you beat all three campaigns.
      -reworked Vergil that incorporates some V stuff (changeable Doppelganger that can be a familiar), new weapons, and dual wield opens based on your two equipped weapons
      -more focus on environmental interaction; grab and throw shit as Nero, Royal Guard using stage objects, Jackie Chan moves performed with Trickster, smash enemies through shit, change the space of the level, wall running, stage hazards, enemies interact with the environment (climb walls, throw/eat objects, fly or walk depending on the space, etc)
      -enemies are more adaptable and have a DMC1-tier movelist again. They also have better anti-air.
      -more hell levels
      -all original enemies, no more callbacks
      -1/3 style level and mission design where each room is densely packed with detail to make crisscrossing them more enjoyable
      -point blank gun attacks and launchers like Wild Stomp
      -running and shooting at the same time
      -Enemy Surf, only better. Sprinting is a double tap and has a dedicated attack and jump. Platforming that works better.

      -arcade co-op and versus modes
      -costumes, lots of costumes. Don't care if it's paid DLC
      -BOSS RUSH HOLY FRICK HOW DOES NO GAME PROPERLY HAVE THIS YET
      -both types of Bloody Palace (preset 100 levels, and 2's style of randomly generated, endless challenge)
      -Must Style mode and other gimmicky modes

      Extra type of secret missions aka kill all enemies, with later enemies being introduced earlier. Basically ToV from ng2 or slayer gates from DE
      Also more level design like mission 15 with branching paths and shit

    just got into the series off of the HD Collection during Winter Sale. 1 was great, had some frustrating shit like Nightmare 3 but overall a fun game. Haven't played 2 but I will eventually, I know it's shit from 20 years of word of mouth but I still have to see. 3 on the other hand is one of my favorite games ever now, I went from getting my ass kicked by the Hell Vanguard to perfectly Royal Guarding near every hit of Virgil 3, I'm a huge fan of the styles (haven't tried the mod for free-style but might once I've finished DMD, just to see it in motion). Stupid fun series, my only regret is not getting into it years ago. Weirdly I still have a ton of problems w/ Arkham, everyone else I can handle pretty consistently but something about amorphous blob bosses really fricks with my perception and I can't read their tells, but that's not a DMC problem

      2 is absolutely worth playing out of curiosity because it's legitimately impressive how functional it is when you consider it had only a few months of real dev time. just remember that you can quit at any time, there is literally NOTHING in it that's referenced or brought back aside from like one enemy type. I advise having a podcast or something to listen to at the same time. if you're going for the achievements with bloody palace and whatnot then look up how to activate the infinite devil trigger cheat.

      He sucks. Mostly you just run around in circles when his little minions spawn to herd them, then oneshot them with Kalina Ann. His own attacks have shit tells but the main thing to look out for is when he starts flashing, at which point you just give him a wide berth, let him spaz out, then jump back in.

      Nightmare's cores change phases after they've been hit enough times, and once you hit the red phase, they get some really high defense, so that might've happened to you. If both cores are blue and/or green, it becomes a lot more manageable outside of that last phase. I remember when I was trying to S rank him on DMD, I had a few attempts where I got an A rank instead because I took too long on that phase. I would just spam Air Raid and hope he doesn't kill me when I run out of DT.

      iirc it was because a lot of the added features were mods on PC so they didn't bother releasing Definitive Edition there, however a lot of those mods are lost to time now
