It was actually hard. DMC sold out to casuals, youtube, and reddit ever since.
When?
FPBP. Removing time and orbs scoring was a mistake. DMC6 will only require you to see S in the style meter once for an S-rank.
>orbs scoring
Hate that shit.
>NOOOOO I HATE ARCADE SCORING I WANT S RANK WITHOUT TRYING
Filtered zoomie alert.
Frick off. I hate destroying barrels and other shit.
>Frick ranks
>The thing DMC is fundmentally built and balanced around is not important or shouldn’t exist
God secondaries are insufferable. You do know without the ranking system the DMC games falls apart?
Plenty of people play these games without caring about the score system. Stay mad.
And they get filtered by normal, play on easy automatic mode, and lose all credibility. I'm NTA but I see you're moronic and I feel bad for your parents.
You can beat all the games through all difficulties while maintaining low ranks in most categories, especially style.
Frick ranks, points, cheevos, etc. Give me a fun game that I can play for its own sake.
orb scoring is neat cause it makes it so that you have to consistently kill enemies with high style. it's also pretty cool when you mess up a fight and you have to take some of the extra fights in order to boost the orb count while managing your time limit
>why yes, i did play the first american version only, how could you tell?
I had more trouble with DMC1. 3 in Yellow mode was a challenge though.
Capcom did not give af, and wanted gameplay to match the hardcore music and screams.
in my opinion great gamefeel and a good grasp on how to challenge players without frustrating them. couple that with complex game mechanics, and yeah you have a very good video game.
I just started the series and I'm loving the first game. Will probably beat it this weekend and move on to the sequel. Is it downhill from here or up?
bottom, peak, down, up
2 is incredibly boring and no one would blame you for skipping it, 3 is 10/10.
2 is interesting in an academic sense but do not feel you have to finish it or even play it at all. No characters, enemies, or plot points reappear in any of the later games. It is a shit game that was made in like 4 months and you do not need to play it unless you are morbidly curious.
2 is so easy it's worth going through just so you can discuss and compare it to the others. It's not a good game, but it's one of those bad games that you can just chill with.
6/10
1/10
8/10
7/10
10/10
So uphill
2 is boring garbage
3 is a 9/10
4 had half of its story cut due to Capcom being moronic during development but still manages to be pretty good
5 is fricking great but I'm still pissed Special Edition is cucksole exclusive.
Play 3 and 5 and then Bayo 1 and MGRR after that, disregard everything else
Skip 2. 3 is objectively better to move onto after 1
In release order, marianna trench, everest, mean sea level, baikal, mauna kea
Beating the original DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden Black are probably the high point of my gaming career and I will have to make do with that. I beat all the Soulsborne as well but I can't do Nioh/Nioh 2 or Sekiro

I ain't playing that shit, homie.
The Vergil fight took me two days. This is the kind of game you really should beat when you're still a teenager. Take it from an old man. You do not want to be going through this game when your reflexes have started to decline and you're almost senile.
Why so long? Self imposed not using items?
I feel DMD was harder in DMC 1. DMC 3 is still my fav in the series and also one of the best games ever made.
DMC1's enemies in DMD are harder than DMD DMC3's but Vergil 3 in DMD is the hardest boss fight in the entire franchise.
What's a way to play this game without input lag? PCSX2 is input lag galore. Is the ubisoft port any good? The HD collection lacks effects and stuff, but I guess that's fine if it has the least amount of input lag.
PC is the only way to play. Mods fix most of the port problems and add style switching.
it's pretty clear that HD Collection is the best way to go,even with missing effects
is there any good way to reduce input lag PCSX2? Trying to play games like Tales of Abyss, DMC1, and Sword of Etheria just feels off compared to when I play them on console hardware.
beofre he goes on to other projects I just want him to solely focus on Project GG. Pltiunum is in a rut right now and could use another banger. Bayonetta 3 does not look like it was it and I am doubt Granblue will be the next Platinum hit (but I'm hoping it is)
It seems more responsive with linux & vulkan for me. PS2 hardware itself had a low polling rate though. Games always felt worse there.
>took the ninja gaiden formula and casualized it
i didn't realize how deep the combos were until I left it on the menu and saw the demo that plays after you don't press anything for a few minutes
i didn't realize/think switch weapons mid combo chain
i was able to beat it without doing that but once I saw that demo it blew my mind
Seeing the one video in the gallery made me realize how horrible my nevan skills were.
I only retried Nevan after 10+ years when 5 was announced. I had no idea it had 4-way directional inputs, and also the most OP weapon in the game.
I only realized that when trying to do one of those statues for SS score. I got the blue fragment but I never came close to how fluid the guy playing in the video made it seem.
i only had a problem with cerberus but that was when i just got the game and wasn't used to it (beat him easily later when i replayed it), the guitar lady had annoying telegraphed attack but once you memorize her attack patterns she's a piece of cake and vergil who took me 3 days to beat until i tried beo wulf
Me and my friend used cheats to allow for co op through the entire game.
Good times. I wish they’d put proper co op in these games.
Soul
Switch as co-op bloody palace
DMC3 was only hard in the original NA release.
Haven't played 4 and 5 yet but what is it about 4 that people tend to score as less than 3?
Nero
I didn’t like some of the puzzles.
The cutscenes were somewhat cool though.
lack of content
you fight the same bosses three times and run through every level backwards
You got from point A to D as Nero and then as Dante go from D to A while fighting the same bosses. Originally as Nero you'd kill the bosses and get new weapons and as Dante you'd travel to Hell and fight new bosses but a year of development was cut from the game because mid-late 2000s Capcom was braindead.
4 is quite literally half finished, the first 11 missions you play as nero going through fortuna and the second half is literally dante going through the exact same levels and bosses backwards.
the game has alot of complexity when it comes to combo autism which helped its case but if youre a casual DMC fan then its quite the disappointment
4 is a BP simulator, nothing about the main levels is good and there's a segment where you literally roll a dice to progress and you have to do it twice. Plus Dante's levels are literally just a backtrack, and Nero's kit is painfully barebones.
playing this and the franchise in order for the first time just beat second vergil fight. first game was harder so far
What was the story behind the development of DMC2? Why did it came out as it did? I only know that Dante was like a last minute addition which is why he barely has any lines in the game
The only thing they had done was Stinger, 6 months before launch. It was some Tomb Raider clone turned into DMC by an unkown team to this day.
Was there any reason as to why Kamiya wasn't given the game and instead given to Itsuno? Kamiya was still in Capcom by that point.
Nah, they literally didn't tell Kamiya. Its crazy. DMC is one of the most cursed series in games since the series basically revolves entirely around DMC2.
IIRC DMC2's development started before DMC1 even finished and Kamiya wasn't even informed. Itsuno was brought in just to try and salvage anything from it.
The game wasn't even given to Itsuno until the last couple of months. He's literally the only reason why it was released in the first place.
This is the worst meme parroted on these threads, it was always DMC2
>DMC was literally a resident evil game turned into its own game
>NOOOOOOO IT CANT BE ANOTHER GAME TURNED INTO DEVIL MAY CRY THATS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE NOOOO
There's absolutely no evidence shown that it was another game prior aside from a moronic greentext and the whole debacle of Kamiya was that they had started a sequel to this without his knowledge
Its complete intuition, yeah. It also makes complete sense. This shit happens all the fricking time.
It doesn't, capcom at the time was pulling games out of nowhere and trying to get some fresh blood (mainly through Mikami). Not to mention that the 6 months stinger and the prototype are completely contradictory.
It's the most incredible detail of that story exaggerated out of proportion into meme, because it's easier to write and facts are for nerds, that's the world today
>Devil Hunter: 1 try to beat him
>Son of Sparda: 7 fricking tries to beat him
What the frick, is my Dante rusty or is SoS that huge of a jump?
I assume you're referring to DMC5 because I have the same issue but for DMC4. I'm getting my ass rocked hard.
Learn2parry
King cerberus revolver spam and trickster style will neat you a braindead, possibly even damageless win on this boss on any difficulty.
Otherwise just practice royalguard.
What do you think?
I just want Project G.G
Imagine an entire game of the Viewtiful Joe final boss/The microscopic level of W101. I imagine each level as a Viewtiful Joe style beatem up and then you fight the boss and the game turns into Rampage
I'm pretty curious as to what a DMC1 Remake made by Kamiya (as he expressedly desired is a dream project for him) would look like. Maybe it could happen while Itsuno is working in Dragon's Dogma 2.
What would be a DMC0, kid Dante and kid Vergil? Also Okami might be cool to see again.
DMC0 would be about Sparda. It existed as a concept for a PSP game but never happened.
I guess it could work. Despite how much the games talk about him it's usually just about how his power, nothing else. A game that went further into his progression from second in command of the underworld to meeting Eva to fighting Mundus.
Nah, it would need to be a truly grand game to live up.
Would be cool though, though I'm not sure what sort of properly styled music it would have.
Judging from official description of how the world looked like during Sparda's rebellion and how Sparda's personality was, the game's story would basically be Hokuto no Ken but with demons and Sparda being a slightly less serious Kenshiro.
It was 2000 or so years earlier, right?
Yes, it'd take place 2000 years into the past according to DMC1's intro.
DMC0 could totally work people are just incredibly fricking autistic over anyone but Dante being the main character despite tonally being a completely different character in every game. Its honestly pathetic by this point.
Sparda would basically have to be Shakespearean Nero, since I always felt the implication was Nero was the closest to Sparda out of all of them. He fell in love with a human girl, has both Vergil/Dante's traits, etc.
True. It'd be interesting to know what exactly happened to him.
After defeating Mundus, Sparda goes around the Human world taking care of whatever remaining demons, becomes the feudal lord of Fortuna, disappears, then Sparda meets Eva around 1980 years after fighting Mundus and disappears again while Dante and Vergil are toddlers and then is assumed dead.
That's basically what we got with dmc:dmc
Yeah let's have a DMC0 with even more shitty harrier sections and Mundus 2.0 electric boogaloo but he has 50 phases and a plane chase segment.
lol what? aside from vergil nothing was hard in this shitty game
Just use items bro
The closest thing we have to DMC0 is the first chapter of the DMC1 comic which isn't canon as of Itsuno taking the lead.
Hah, he addresses him as in such a manner if he's not just his lieutenant.
Now that's respect.
Sparda is so cool.
I still have never beaten the last vergil fight without using at least 1 vital star, but have never needed items for anything else. Doesn't seem that hard when you could be using way more items if you suck completely.
The next protag should be a black, half-angel type character that uses a single multipurpose weapon that can turn into a spear, glaive, sword, rifle, bazooka, etc.
"no"
/v/s butthurt would be glorious.
