True, and the problem with this game's lack of success is that the territories where DFO is popular didn't buy this shit becuase they had no reason to do so.

The Chinese didn't buy it because they didn't want to, not becuase it's a fighting game. They could just play DFO instead of buy this.

              Anonymous

Well DFO does have PVP in it after all so there really isn't much incentive to buy it outside of some kind of promotional gimmick like how Cygames gave content for the mobile game for purchasing GBVS.

I believe Play-Asia preorders had DFO digital codes to unlock content for the Global version of the game.

              >The stream featured a crowd camera and 2 player cameras and nothing more. Throughout the tournament, a large crowd of around 200-300 KOF fans were seen spectating at the arcade. There were no breaks in between matches for sponsors messages /commercials, nor were there any live music/presentation to entertain viewers. The streamer frequently showed messages on the stream to poke fun of the players and commentators. There was only 1 commentator at any given time, and commentaries were usually done by the players rather than dedicated commentators.

a month of getting robbed by swift master, striker who can literally kill you for blocking with less than 30 MP, dragon knight and hitman killed the fun for a lot of people, me even more so because i play launcher. devs waited way too long to announce a patch but we dont even get it until late august after VSfighting so ill pick it up then along with the DLC rumored to come out. its a fun game and it would suck for it to just completely die because of granblue level incompetence

      Anonymous

It didn't get mainstage at EVO probably because games like Granblue that are less relevant now had pending contracts that still needed to be fulfilled from the year that EVO got cancelled due to covid, and so it kind of got buried under the wave of announcements and attention for older fighting games.

Both of these. People were willing to overlook the games horrible balance for a few weeks but once the novelty wore off people stopped caring about it. It not being a main game at Evo didn't help which is where a lot of people make decisions to try games after watching them. Also I don't get not announcing dlc after release, give people a date to look forward too.

it came out too late but man the side stream for it was so bad that it genuinely feels like the game got robbed. they skipped an entire block of pools, the stream had frame drops, and then straight up died mid grand finals. hopefully VSfighting is better since its official and actual big names like GO1 and punk are playing there

Unironically no DLC, not being in EVO mainstage made it miss out, also some actualy concerns regarding gameplay; mechanics wise and balance. I know this is 8ing, and actual kusoge is their specialty, but in DNF, its less fun like UMVC3 and more frustrating. Having no update roadmap also hurts. The FGC has been so conditioned to have DLC to churn the hype, any game without a roadmap fricking dies in a month

the only way to redeem the game is by buffing launcher to top tier. she needs it with all the full screen moves flying around

      Anonymous

Launcher buffs would feel more like "fixes". She's just horribly crippled in ways that almost no other character suffers. Don't even need to change any numbers; just give her shitty tools better utility and open up some options.

Let 2A chain into 5A, and/or give 2A more hitstun so it doesn't need Counterhit for 2A>5S to combo, just so she has one actual combo from a low starter.
Unfrick jB M-137, it's horribly inconsistent because of the tiny projectiles and awkward disjoint that literally phases shots into the ground at the end.
Let Launcher -whiff- cancel 5S, 2S, 6S into MP skills immediately instead of needing the projectiles to hit the opponent first. You know, like how Dragon Knight can cancel Knuckle Blaster into Dragon Wing the instant the projectile is out.
Also wish 4S were either more like the MMO version of FM-31 (series of grenades fired at a lower arc, so that it would cover more airspace further out), or would explode in the air at a fixed distance instead of needing contact just so it could be a more reliable anti-air.

    >”uhhhh it’s ok that the game has a lot of stupid shit and dumb characters. That doesn’t matter because it’s FUN. I hope it never gets patched!”
    >”actually now that I keep losing to dumb shit the game isn’t fun anymore I really hope the devs patch it soon”
People had no idea what they wanted and were just parroting others. Which is pretty common for fighting games anyway, but still.
Another big problem is that there really isn’t any tech or combo variety so the game feels stale as frick really fast. People are still doing the same combos they were doing on week 1 because those are the most optimal routes and there’s no reason to do anything else.
It’s also funny how people kept insisting that characters like Enchantress were busted we just had to wait for the “tech” and then it turned out there was absolutely no tech at all.

      Anonymous

I saw routes in EVO Top 8 that I hadn't seen in the weeklies I've watched or matches online (granted I'm a low-mid Diamond shitter when all the Swift Masters that can loop his TAP instead of doing his ROM loop are probably in Deity) and said Top 8 had eight different characters including Ghostblade, Lost Warrior, & Enchantress who all again did stuff I hadn't seen before (not revolutionary new combo routes but variations, and a few setups/mixups that were brand new to me; LW can threaten you high-low a LOT if he conditions you not to DP).

      Anonymous

      >Another big problem is that there really isn’t any tech or combo variety
this is one of the biggest problems you unironically need one combo because almost everything will convert into that combo without much change, even hitting air born targets

      Anonymous

yeah it sucks. it makes most playstyles feel the same. Imagine a fireball zoner Zerker. That would be fun but his easy combos and converisons with white self damage makes him too easy to get high damage with samey links

        Anonymous

Ironically the lack of regular access to Conversion is why the rest of the cast doesn't feel that flexible. I do think Trouble Shooter players could be looking for more Conversion tech given how good his flask is; he can get high-low mix off of a blocked 214M or get all sorts of setups/confirms off of a Conversion'd j.H.

          Anonymous

that sounds rad. I like trouble shooter since hes like a heavy hitter with his specials so you can catch him on cooldown

      Anonymous

Without those combos, and just more move variety, the game lacks some depth, that's for sure. Maybe they could get away with it if people had to use a second character and there were a lot more characters to use.

Nexon just keeps the game fricking radio silent for months. The game is fun and has great netcode but outside of saying a patch WILL come they haven't given a crumb of info, not even at EVO. Frick's sake, I could come up with patchnotes off the top of my head that they could implement easily:
    SYSTEM
    >Guard Cancel now costs 70MP
    >MP Skills now only delete 80% of the opponent's white health on hit; Counter Hits will remove 100% still
    >Universal Throw deletes 50% of the opponent's white health
    >White health regen starts faster but happens at a slower rate
    >Roll recovery reduced by ~5f
    SWIFT
    >Health & Guard Gauge dropped by 100 apiece
    >Universal increase in MP cost by 10-20 apiece
    >Longer charge time on 5[S] by 30 frames
    HITMAN
    >Awakening followup to MP Skills costs 25MP now
    >Awakening followup scales combos 3x as much as currently
    STRIKER
    >Universally loses guard damage on all moves
    >Put a gap between j.S & j.M on block
    BERSERK
    >The big succ he gets in his install doesn't give him a full combo on air connect
    >More recovery on setting up meaty projectile
    DK
    >Initial call to send out the dragon costs 20 more MP before followups
    >236M has longer startup and is more punishable
    TROUBLE
    >Longer startup on 236M
    >Make the blindspot above his DP even larger, so you can consistently read and punish it by jumping over him
    CRUSADER
    >Remove 2S infinite that's it he's fine otherwise
    KUNOICHI & RANGER
    >They're fine as-is
    GRAPP
    >All of his charged S normals travel further
    >Awakening passive changed to "Armored moves & 623M no longer lose to Lows"
    LW
    >Give him a button that's faster than fricking 10f holy shit
    >623M applies 2 stacks of timestop
    ENCHANT
    >Madd's big downwards swipe is now an overhead
    INQUIS
    >Health increased to 950
    >Recovers sooner after Flame Carpet
    VANGUARD
    >5M followups can be done on whiff
    >Guard Damage on all S & MS attacks up 10%
    LAUNCH
    >Flamethrower chains to slide
    >Much reduced combo scaling on 5S & 236M

Her and Ranger are strong but not busted and as long as characters weaker than them get buffs and the core systems get adjusted I don't see a reason to touch their tools. I say that while maining a character with an awful matchup against both.

      Anonymous

      >ENCHANT
      >Madd's big downwards swipe is now an overhead

Cool but she doesn't even need this. Her pressure, especially in the corner, is very strong. She literally just needs reduced MP for madd moves, combo stability and maybe some tweaks for better frame data. Just this would probably put her mid to high tier.

        Anonymous

I don't know shit about puppet characters honestly but I noticed that her damage is garbage for how much work she does unless she gets that swipe as a starter, so I figured having it as an overhead would at least give her better damage from her mix. She can already put out gapless strings and threaten with the command grab but obviously those aren't enough to put her in the top half of the roster.

Too new for EVO main stage, and revealing something at the Vortex/AnimEVO side event would have been a misfire of low viewership.
VSFighting would be the first good point to have an announcement when Duel actually starts on the ArcRevo Tour. Right after it would be the best time to drop the balance patch with consideration for players learning the game for tournament events.

VSFighting Would also be the best time to jolt the playerbase if they dropped a new character out of the blue.

You can find a match within 2 minutes on PS4. I think it takes longer than it would normally because the default option is to ask if you want to accept a match and there is NO audio cue at all when a match is made. Unless you change it to auto-accept you WILL miss a match here and there if you're not staring at the screen.

The only way to retain players is to give them garbage to farm like an MMO or fortnite. Someday japanese fg devs will figure this out. I mean even fall guys figured it out

I don't know if you're joking or not but this is true. Multiversus wouldn't be half as successful if it was just a regular game like that Nick smash clone.

DNF Duel is designed like a game from 2007 except it has rollback out of the box. You HAVE to beat the Story once to unlock Lost Warrior when any other game would let you pay to do so or force you to pay to use him in the first place (this is literally what DBFZ did with Majin 21).

I'd say Strive is tolerated because the other options are ass
If SF6 is any good at all Strive is screwed

Devs are fricking stupid and don't realize they're shooting themselves on the foot by making baby mode fighting games. The only type of person that attracts is the kind who will play the game for 2 weeks and then never again.

The only reason Strive stays afloat is because of it's graphics and YouTube/Twitch exposure.

Street Fighter 6 will cause a new fighting game renaissance and show everyone that no one cares if you're game has simple controls, no combos or easy to play characters. All people care about is if the game is fun and looks good. Hopefully other devs take the hint as SF6 guides the industry into a new fightan generation.

      >The only reason Strive stays afloat is because of it's graphics and YouTube/Twitch exposure.

For all intents and purposes, Strive might not be complex and it has some moronic decisions but it at least expects you to learn matchups. The problem is the low character skill ceilings that you hit quickly. Guilty Gear was always a character specialist series, where players could differ from each other in application.

Though I'd be fricking lying if exaggerating the slowdown for easy hitconfirms wasn't a fricking mistake. But whatever, that was just t heir solution after gutting gatling.

Simplifying the characters is by far the most offensive thing about it for me. I can't imagine how someone who played Baiken in +R/Xrd would ever enjoy playing Strive Baiken. I'm actually dreading the day my Xrd main gets into Strive, it'll be so fricking sad to see all their fun tools gone.

          >I can't imagine how someone who played Baiken in +R/Xrd would ever enjoy playing Strive Baiken.
I experienced this in reverse. I never really cared to play as Baiken in +R or Rev2 but I tried her in Strive and actually kind of gelled what she was doing, and I realized that that really should not have been happening if she was faithful to how she was. I do not play characters with strong defensive options that require well-timed reads, so me being able to pick up Baiken means it's not really Baiken.

The rope gimmick is a really cool idea though, I feel like you could've kept her more faithful but attached that to her and she would've been both recognizable to her old fans and fresh because of the new mix and combos it offers.

its fun for a cheap game (literally not even full price). a few tweaks would fix a lot of balance issues, but only few percent can actually play at high enough level for that to even matter. they just like to blame something for being trash. nor and socal Black folk get paid to shill other stuff and evo season meant no time for panda homosexuals to make onion face videos.

My issue with fighting games is that they're gutting all their mechanics and for what? It worked for a few but lots of the rest end up dying off anyway. There's a argument to be made that Strive would've been popular even if it was on the same level of difficulty as xrd. Most of my friends who jumped onto strive still have no clue what they're doing, they just mash buttons and like the character designs. Is the simplification really that big of a factor anymore?

      >There's a argument to be made that Strive would've been popular even if it was on the same level of difficulty as xrd.

I don't know, man. I think people just don't want to learn how to move in fighting games. Samurai Shodown only died because of covid and frankly it has better numbers overall to KOF.

      Its kinda baffling.

Xrd really wasn't that hard though, there were plenty of easy characters that you could play. Sure you could argue some stuff is fustrating to go up against, but even beginners lose their shit when getting 2 touched in strive.

No but that won't stop fighting game devs from thinking that removing established movesets from characters is a good idea

That's why for its own flaws KoFXV is still a good fighter in modern year, and it didn't have to gut characters moves to to accomplish that

KOFXV is good but SNK can't fix the match making and improve the visuals much so that's a shame, I still play it every now and then. If Frenchbread actually sincerly makes an effort to improve Type Lumina next week then that'll be nice too.

A little helps but QoL, character designs, and fun extra content besides regular competitive matches do much more. T7 is very similar to previous Tekken games outside of Rage Art/Drive. SF6 is looking less simplified than V but will definitely sell better than it. DBFZ has extremely oppressive corner pressure.

DBFZ is still pretty popular and is one of the more deep modern fighting games, although it gained depth from patches. Tekken is still a mind frick of a game with millions of mechanics and properties yet it's still the best selling modern fg. SF6 will probably succeed, I really hope they don't screw that one up.

SNK's modern fighters are at best putting in an extra mechanic for casuals but keeping the core the same as the classics and they are apparently sales successes.

This is so obvious I don't know how anyone would think otherwise. I think it's just Xrd's financial failure + DBFZ's insane success mindbroke ArcSys into thinking that is the way forward. I don't know how many games it will take for them to realize that complexity (or lack of) has very little to do with anything.

SF is usually the game that dictates the trends, SF6 is probably like the only fighting game sequel in 6-8 years that is actually adding (a lot) more mechanics and complexity than it's predecessor. I can definetely see it giving ArcSys some stuff to think about.

I remember XRD selling so horribly, how come? I remember playing it when it came out and loving it, the visuals were amazing too. Did it come out at a bad time or what? Even Type Lumina was an insane financial success, it sold like 300k i think? That's insane for a tiny company like Frenchbread.

Honestly I don't know either, I didn't really play fighting games much at the time. My guess would be bad timing, IIRC it came out around the end of SF4's lifespan and a bit before SF5, near SFxTekken too. Also anime games in general weren't very popular in the west yet.

            Anonymous

It's this, anime games were down in the dumps. None of the IPs gained any traction to your average market either. The only popular anime fg back then was P4 area honestly.

Arc actually did a good job marketing Strive, it had plenty of beta's that people could play for free too.

2014 and 2021 are two completely different times. Strive and type lumina did well because of two reasons, good netcode that is basically a make or break with the new pozzed FGC that only wants to play the game comfortably at home and still wears masks to in person events. And in 2022 anime is basically as mainstream as modern pop songs and dubbed movies even top box office sales at times so arc sys anime style has essentially became the top dog in the fighting game market since DBFZ.

People posting that shit in this thread are pretty funny considering a fact that DnF is even more easy and braindead game than soive somehow. i am not a fan of soive but people clearly like that game not just because of le graphics or netcode like haters claim player retention is apparently carried by those lmao. i know two guilty queer maniacs who play that series for over 10 years now and even they like soive.

God, fighting games removing iconic moves from characters is what did me in. Strive is fun to press buttons in but i'll never like it for completely changing characters like May and Ram into generic boring big unga bunga damage archetypes. Shit is so lame, the only argument you can make for it is that they're now easier to play or something.

I'll keep my word and give Type Lumina another try after the update. I did enjoy it a bit but everyone online is a shield crack head. If they genuinely try to improve the game that'll be great, especially since all the DLC is completely free
