This is a worrying tendency don't you think

      >GPU for new games are moronicly expensive
      >new games are moronicly shit anyway
Looks like the problem is taking care of itself

I'd get a 5090 but it looks like they can only be bought with bags of gold now. I won't have enough money left over to pay my power bill when the 5090 needs its own hydroelectric dam to run it.

If you dont buy a new card only when a new game requires it you are moronic. So no, you dont. It only makes you a cattle for the israelites.

when was the last time you owned a x090 series card?

I feel like these new flagship cards are going to be relevant for an unreal amount of time. Upgrading my 3060ti to a 5080/90 to play everything at 1440p until 4k 144hz is the norm.

This has been the case for a while now, ever since the entire gaming industry went multi-plat. Games are designed to run on the lowest common denominator(s), which currently are: Switch, Series S or PS5.
The GTX 970 stayed relevant until the very end of the 8th generation of consoles. It's arguably still somewhat relevant, considering it's not that much slower than a Series S.
The 4070 will stay relevant for just as long. Basically, anything with at least 12GB of VRAM and 6600XT/3060 GPU performance is guaranteed to last (and by "last" I mean "console-like settings") until Sony launches the PS6.

I only upgrade when my current rig starts to lag behind big time and there is something actually worth playing with the upgrade. And if funds allow me to. So about once in 5-6 years.

i reluctantly update my card every 8 years

I'm just not going to upgrade

The only game I even cared to play that pushed my card at all was cyberpunk, and since then there hasn't been a single game released I cared about that I couldn't play

I literally get more out of games like starsector and ss13 than anything the industry releases brand new. There's no reason to upgrade, and especially not when a card costs $2000 instead of $200

      What's your current card?

I upgrade when I feel the need to and have the cash. I also usually wait a few months because the cards are either impossible to get or come with some issues near launch. That said $2,000 for a 4090 is just ridiculous so I skipped it and stayed on 3090, I could buy a fun older car for that price, I can see a million better ways of spending 2k. It's not even that revolutionary, the 4080 is perfectly fine for high end gaming and stable diffusion.

there's no game that would make you need more than an RTX 3060. and I say this as a 3080 owner.

show me how well your 3080 runs 8600x5100 resolution 90fps required for high end VR.

    Bullshit

So the GPU is going to be really long?

  17. 2 weeks ago

i buy a moderately powerful card I know will last me another 8-10 years until eventually it cant handle shit anymore, then i upgrade.
thing is, the only games that my 2060S cant run max settings capped FPS on these days are either badly optimized games or ones that are CPU loaded anyway.
if I upgraded my gfx card at this point it'd unironically be for shit like Dota, Eve Online or Minecraft to reduce lag than to actually play any nugames.

upgrade why? I have a 7900XTX and i play at 1440p, don't give a frick about 4k, gay tracing or AAA slop, especially from Blizzard/Ubisoft/Sony etc
the only game i look forward that need a lot of power is GTA 6, but that shit is at least 3 years away

You buy the best budget/long lasting stock settings card and then hold onto it for a decade while reminiscing how good and how long its lasted compared to other enthusiast cards

I only upgrade when it's necessary to play a game.
