as if this is the only problem of the garbage they are shitting out since 2013
They're were always shit
Eelektross is an improvement in this image. Otherwise I agree.
no shit, the last one I played was X and is apparent that GF sucks ass at 3d
Kaloschizo thread

The animations in this n64 game from 20+ years ago are more unique and dynamic than any of the new 3d pokemon games. What in the flying fuck Gamefreak?
Well there are a few advantages that the N64 games had. 1) Way less polygons and B) asset reuse across like five games/two console gens.
The original Japan-only Pokemon Stadium only had 40 usable Pokemon. The other Pokemon did exist in the game, but they were in an incomplete state and couldn't be used in battle. The original idea was to add the other mons via the 64DD which ended up not happening. The remaining Pokemon would be completed and usable in Pokemon Stadium 2 (Just Pokemon Stadium in the west), so it took two full price games for all 151 to be usable in the game. These models would go on to be reused in Pokemon Stadium GS (Pokemon Stadium 2 in the west), in addition to the newer Gen 2 Pokemon. And then THESE models would be reused in the Gamecube games. That exact same Venusaur model used in Pokemon Stadium 1 was reused all the way to XD.
Now I'm not saying this excuses the mediocrity of modern Pokemon games, but what I am saying is that it's not as if corners weren't cut back then.
>XD
Fuck off back to plebbit
what do the gamecube games have to do with what
said? And how can a multi-billion franchise not muster the talent to make non-shitty models/animations?
gen 5 toon boom tier animations were shit too, anon.
I agree it's when they stopped being good but it's not WHY they stopped being good
also this, the sprite animation in black and white was so fucking ugly
i dont know about the games being shit, I skipped everything after RSE and only recently got into it again with Sword
while its neat seeing my favorite mons in 3D they mostly look kind of stupid, just their posture or something, like is illustrated in your image
i do find myself missing the sprites but I think i just have a thing for that shit, I still listen to old chiptune music
it was when they did the phys special split
Hitmontop is one of the ones with more personality though
The 3d models are just kind of there. I think it's a symptom of the animators using as few bones as possible. Without enough deform bones you can't get the exciting poses without the mesh looking squashed so they just don't.
Only problem with 3D Typhlosion is the same with the whole Cyndaquil line which is the lack of permaflame
The funny thing about the Cyndaquil line is that the flames are supposed to be their "battle mode". So the only times when their flames shouldn't be up in battle is when they're first thrown out or they're fainted.
The models have been getting better starting with Legends Arceus, but most of the mons haven't been updated yet and are still using the crappy 3DS models.
Gamefreak, with their archaic and understaffed corporate structure, can't create entirely new assets for each game. So they tried to "future-proof" their models, but not only were they not great, they also had more polygons than the 3DS could reasonably handle and they were immediately rendered obsolete by the Switch, which itself isn't a very powerful system. They probably saw the writing on the wall early, hence why they gave up trying to have every single Pokemon in every game's Pokedex. So long as they refuse to expand their workforce, that's impossible.
Fuck, at this point I'd let gamefreak make AI do their shitty 3d models if it put the national dex back in.
Why can't they just introduce like 10 new mons and actually update old mons to be actually good?
Who needs 1000 pokemon when people only like 1 gay mon from x gen they grew up with? Just force newcomers to like the old mons you already have.
Because new toys
The game and anime is a very small part of the business
Merchandise is always the biggest by far, and they need to keep making new shit that whales will buy.
whoever did these is really good
except the part where he says both are ok and a matter of taste, that part is retarded
Gamefreak are so lazy that since moving to 3D in gen 6 they still won't make their 3D models better meanwhile all the gens before got new and improved sprites.
Laziness is part of it, but it's also that they're a bunch of old boomers who don't know how to make modern modern games. From 1996 to 2011, the only games these people have made are sprite-based, turn-based JRPGs with rigid grid-based movement. Most background elements were made by copying and pasting the same assets. Rows after rows of identical looking trees. Their development philosophies hadn't changed in over ten years, so structurally, Black and White were functionally identical to Ruby and Sapphire. Gamefreak is still in like the Industrial Revolution era of vidya while everyone else is in the modern age.
the shitty sprite transforms in black and white were completely soulless
All of those look better with the 3D models. Why would Hitmontop be constantly upside down? Why would Typhlosion have its fire active all the time when it's established that it only activates its fire when attacking? Et cetera.
>Why would Hitmontop be constantly upside down?
That's his whole gimmick
>why would a spinning top be spinning on its top
uh
Why can't hitmontop be spinning all time?
Yes
name ONE game that didnt gone to shit after transitioning from sprites to 3D.
If anything it's the best in the series
this game is so expressive, almost pixar quality animations, I love it
Bubsy.
Lol, he said DIDN'T go to shit.
So hire ten times more animators, they have a trillion dollar company gay. It's simple math.
Bubsy 3D is the best game in the series.
A ''trillion'' dollar company does not mean they have a trillion dollars to spend idiot, most of that money will be in property etc
>A ''trillion'' dollar company does not mean they have a trillion dollars to spend idiot
It barely takes 1 million dollars with a team of 20. 200 devs will just be 10 million dollars, which is what fucking movie companies spend.
Go fuck yourself.

Metroid
Oh yeah. You and what army?
No GF just sucks at making 3D models
Here they only had to animate 150 models, nowdays it would be like 1000
And half of those are already featureless blobs to make animating 3d sprites easy
I know they're small and indie but I think they can push through. Tendie apologists are Madden tier levels of lost I mean that sincerely
There also owners of the biggest franchise ever, they can afford to hire enough animators to animate 1000 pokemon. They just don't need to because a game will still sell millions anyway.
>nowdays it would be like 1000
They cut the national dex starting in SwSh and I think ScarVio only had about 400 to start with.
Note that Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii had to model and animate 493 mons and they looked much better than any of this shit.
PBR was still using N64 models for older mons
*Gamecube models.
Pokemon Colosseum and... y'know... the other one.
Yes, and those games were also using N64 models for older mons.
Yeah they totally weren't updated at all.
Yeah, they generally weren't. The older models stuck out like a sore thumb.
Oh no, the multi-billion dollar company has to hire 7 times as many animators.
150 for a spinoff is impressive. And that was basically the first generation of 3d games. Pokemon had like 4 mainline games now since XY? Biggest IP in the world can't even make their 80-something new pokemon look good, even when cutting the national dex. Fucking pathetic. They have the models, why can't they just hire like 3 guys to animate them? It's 3d so you can reuse them.
There is a beta leak of swsh that actually included some pokemon that didn't wind up being included in the final, like greninja. The models were reused but the animations were completely broken. Even if they did reuse the models they still would have had to animate over 900 pokemon.
And yet modders figured out how to import old models with working animations shortly after the game came out.
Including all the animations of every single pokemon playing around in the campsite that sub abd moon definitely did have abs was not included later in swsh?
the camp just used the Amie and previously unused walking animations from the 3DS games
It's way more than that. Counting all form changes that have new models, I believe there are over 1200
Well if they weren't incompetent, they could do batches of animations for pokemon with the same body type, all the bipedal fighting mons can basically share the same attack animations with some minor changes for example
Pokémon was always shit
leave
have a nice day
>kicking pokemon doing capo is worse
nah
The Pokemon lost visual clarity and dynamism when they went 3D (with Gamefreak). And frankly, I expect more from a franchise that's been around so long and sold so much.
no, XY is filled with soul and would have peaked pokemoN if we got the Z version, it all went downhill with SUN and MOON
>do we all
fuck off
make me
Yeh. We all agreee. We all hope (some without even knowing) that GF will release a 2D game with multiple, fantastic sprite work for each mon and return to the success this franchise once had instead of chasing each new generation of baby gamers
the 3d models arent the problem, its just that they are too fucking relaxed
that and the colors all look washed out
these
the sprites were so colorful, had dynamic, battle-ready poses, all the 3d models have muted colors and are just blandly standing there.
Even in pokemon stadium, the 3D models were animated, bouncy, and alive
It comes down to game freak no longer giving a shit because no matter what they make, people will buy it as long as it has a pokemon logo on it.
Gamefreak did not animate the models in stadium
The animated sprite idea could have worked, but GF fudged it.
But I agree that the pixel art style is a lot nicer than the 3-D artwork. I don't think that 3-D pokemon has ever managed to find a good cohesive aesthetic.
I honestly like what they tried with XY where the models were using a shader that put black pixels around the model to emulate animated sprites, however in pretty sure that it caused the massive slowdown you would see during battles. Also the models themselves being horribly washed out.
As the other anon said, 3d is not a problem by itself, it's that the devs fucked up.
But yes, the sprites are infinity better then the in game 3d models.
no
#631076342
Look, I know Bubsy is a meme, but the first 1 and those nuBubsy games were far better than fucking Sonic 06 before Sonic 06.
No, I don't agree. I like hanging out with the 3D models in the overworld more and seeing how they animate in fights.
2D pokefags are an extremely delusional group. They have allowed nostalgia to dominate all of their opinions. They sincerely believe a static sprite is more animated than a model with multiple attack animations because they can just pretend that it is. Pure schizophrenia.
>complaining about nostalgia while defending pokemon which sells on nostalgia
The sprites became shit in gen 5 when they stopped caring about presentation and started using warped sprites with rixels, mixels, and lost pixels., Stretching and rotating sprites without fixing any problems as a result. That fucking drillrat and thundereel are some of the worst examples but swoobat looks like straight up cancer of the lymph nodes. 3d models fucking the franchise and killed whatever remaining soul was left, but (as fun as BW was), it was poison for the franchise and it's been dying slowly ever since.
Gen 4 was last good gen in terms of art and attention to detail.
it's not even the models themselves that are the issue, the 3D artists just suck at choosing colors. it would be so easy to make those models look nice
they have completely moved on from sprites starting gen 9
even the pokemon icon sprites are no longer pixel styled; just some soulless icon now
Why did they choose to desaturate the colors?
