I have zero moral objections to stealing from Shittards of the Coast now... except for the fact that I'm gonna be giving my attention (and my money) to companies that don't suck massive horse wiener now. >doing draft with friends costs like 10 bucks per person
Enjoy those cards being worthless very soon.
I can get two brilliant movies on a disc for that total price, and I get to keep 'em.
          >can get refunded if you open some expensive card
          >if
That's how they push units, silly, the chances are against you. One guy out of thousands will get their money back, and it wont even cost Wottocks, because you're the one who ragebuys the rare you deserved and didn't get from the seller. How do you think casino's work?
          >cheaper than going to see a movie
Jesus Christ! I'm sorry to hear that.
But then again, a single movie costs in dollars orders of magnitude more to make than it does to print 1,000 rare cards. Movies also don't very often become worthless after release. If a movie is worthless, it's worthless from the start, and only outright illegal shit gets banned.
Your entire "cheap" draft gets banned within months, making it the worlds most expensive toilet paper.

            >Enjoy those cards being worthless very soon.
if you do draft with friends no one cares about the cards anon. If there is something expensive its sold and used for the next draft in couple of months
            >That's how they push units, silly
no one buys boosters hoping for expensive card
            >a single movie costs in dollars orders of magnitude more to make than it does to print 1,000 rare cards.
so what? I am consumer of the product, i dont give a shit how much it costs to make. My only motivation is the enjoyment and draft with friends is pretty fun thing to do

              >if you do draft with friends no one cares about the cards anon.
Sure, the friends don't, but you could also watch a good movie with friends if being with friends is all that matters. The anon I replied to seemed to think that the value for bucks meant something, though, which is why I argued worth.
              >no one buys boosters hoping for expensive card
It's the only reason people buy them.
Don't say friends. Your friends wont give a shit because you're the one who brought up the idea to them to do boosters and drafts and shit.
The vast majority of people buying boosters are doing so to get the rares.
              >so what? I am consumer of the product, i dont give a shit how much it costs to make. My only motivation is the enjoyment and draft with friends is pretty fun thing to do
Good for you. As mentioned before however, the anon I responded to used price as a winning factor, so I argued price.
The fact that Wottocks can pump out one thousand rare cards and make millions for pennies on the dollar, compared to a movie crew that must spend millions before they even see a cent, does justify the pricing of the movies somewhat.

I'd question your idea of fun if I had more space in one reply. It seems like a replayable board game may be better for your group than mtg boosters, since you aren't looking for the rare bombs specifically, which is the main reason to get mtg boosters, and everything else mtg offers from draft in terms of chaos factor gameplay can be found in more plenty in board games.

you would probably be right, but MTG is something we all played at one point and we all have jobs now, so money isnt really and issue. You are definetly right its more about friends than the game.
Board game for 8-12 people is quite a rare thing tho
My point was that calling MtG the most predatory game ever is overreaction. Yes playing standard and extended (or whatever is it called these day) is for chumps, but as with many other things if you approach it like an adult MtG isnt all that bad. Even playing commander with some price limit will give you plenty of fun

                Anonymous

Commander/EDH is great, because there aren't many banned cards in the format. That, and it being singleton 100 cards gives players an excuse to slot in cards they wouldn't have the space to use otherwise, as well as somewhat forcing decks to be less reliant on one tricks. There's a good reason people who don't like MtG still like Commander.
Even I like Commander. It's a glimpse at the game MtG really can be without the Wottocks bullshit interfering with it; a poetic observation given that EDH was an unofficial format originally.

Digital literature isn't worth paying for unless you sink money into a specific device and I can't think of a more uncomfortable or impractical way to read something than sat at my PC or holding a tablet that's slowly running out of battery.

Tell me /tg/. How many of you do play modules?

      Anonymous

I have never run a full one. I only nitpick ideas for ongoing adventures. Sometimes whole reskined dungeons.
I am thinking of doing a DnD crawl and taking my group through all the published modules back to back. Condensed and reworked of course. Official WOTC materiqls are absolute garbage to read and run RAW. Still not sure what system to use. Probably will cook up something custom to get the DnD feel.

        Anonymous

        >Still not sure what system to use
you plan to do DnD modules with different system? why?

          Anonymous

Because 5e is bodersome to run an prep heavy. Monster blocks are too complicated and combat is too videogamy for my taste. Plus I run player facing systems only since I prefer focusing on running the game and random tables and letting the players live or die on their own merits.
The Idea is to spice things up with something more lighthearted then my regular campaigns. Hell, even I am exited for a party with demy-humans in it.

            Anonymous

why use the modules at all then? they are generaly poorly written and outside of giving you premade stuff dont offer much.

              Anonymous

Don't know. Just to see what the DnD hype is about. I will rework them of course. It will be a learning experience for the mainstream side of the hobby.
And since the Forgotten Realms are pretty goofy players will have the chance to play non-humans for once. Also having classes and levels would be interesting experience for the players.
Also having the freedom of just puting goofy ass monsters left and right without actually thinking deeply why they are there.
Sounds like a nice fun break of pace.

most of the hype is because its simple, popular and with strong support frame (you can google naything you need to know).
DnD isnt all that wacky in itself but it has plenty of funny things. Owlbears n shit.

Yeah. I guess I am looking forward to a more lighthearted game then my usual game of thrones- ish dark fantasy.
And I absolutely suck at lighthearted adventures. So having a kitchen sink farytale world like Forgotten Realms full of magic and weird races premade for me does the job. However I can't stomach the 5e system sadly and my players find it boring too.

What the hell is is? How the hell is 5e complex? It’s the literal easiest dnd aside of basic

              Anonymous

No it is not complex it is combersome to run and play.
A wizard player and GM needs to rear through all 500 spells and know what they roughly do. All of hundreds custom class features and monster abilities. And balance all this soup to get an encounter that is not boring steamroll in eather way.

For example in my games I give my players XP that they can trade to create ability. They come up with what they want and I veto and balance it and we call it a day. They can use more xp to upgrade it and so on. No homework involved. "I want my wizard to develop a spell that allows him to build a wiker man and animate it using the freshly cut heart of an animal." Cool, we figure out the stats of the golem and time to prepare the ritual and probably some querks depending on the type of animal heart and we are done.

Creatures have hitDice, and special ability mapped on d6 that I roll at the start of turn to wee if ot will activate. Some have difficulty class. That's it.
