Nah, I still have fun with video games.
Find the shit you like instead of playing "critically acclaimed" stuff. Your younger self was able to get into it because you were playing what you had, not playing something you felt obligated to because a certain amount of people gave it 10/10 scores.

not usually, I don't get as engrossed in them cause I've got other stuff to do now, but like said I don't really play games I don't love from the start. if I don't enjoy playing a game after an hour, I typically just drop it

        >if I don't enjoy playing a game after an hour, I typically just drop it

Pretty much the same. After 25 years or so of playing games, I can trust myself to know if I'll like something pretty quickly. There are very few exceptions, and sometimes I have to tell myself to not nitpick the small things and just adapt and enjoy new stuff too.

        i agree
you also have to remember that there are underlaying things in your mood that determine your liking of a game at the current moment though.
a couple times, i was trying to play a puzzle game i like the look of, and i would just get bored and start looking up solutions. about a week ago, my brain went full autism mode, i knew it was the time to play it, i opened that game and beat 90% of it in a week without any guides.
basically, you have to play the right game at the right time., when you are in the zone for it.
you may consider there may be games out there you can like, you just weren't in the zone for it when playing it.

Is Wrestling Empire a well known 90+ score on metacritic game? No.
Did I get really engrossed with it and almost piss myself laughing multiple times? Yes.

Same, based response you like what you like, I like what I like, its just that easy, I love the Trails series games and the Ys games, the Trails games suffer from a lot of recycled cliche and anime tropes... but I still like that shit to a degree, and the Ys games dont look amazing FF7Rebirth level of detail, they look so bad, but I love them, its just that simple

No way I would have the patience to figure out Digimon World 1 on PSX nowdays, or find joy in replaying the same few levels on those demo disks

Sort of, but I still have fun. I used to just enjoy things more earlier, but now I can appreciate them more. Though I never have played any shit games when I was young. For some reason, everything I liked was quality and is well regarded today. It's weird how kids can still discern between quality and crappy things by being drawn to them.

no. games have legitimately gotten worse. I've found a few hidden gems after switching to Linux and getting them to run through WINE. no nostalgia factor, I put so many hours into them. modern games don't have that magic.

you gays who are obsessed with the "industry" and think games should be made by huge groups and then sold for 20+ dollars, and not made by individualist enthusiasts and uploaded for free, are getting your due dishes served to you and it's glorious. your wannabe-normalgay attitude is getting pounded in the ass and it's glorious.

Yes but I think it has more to do with having adult responsibilities than the quality of games decreasing. There's probably more games out there to play now than ever before, but no time to play them. I find myself valuing content-dense games that can be quickly picked up and put down more than slow burn games like Resident Evil that I have to dedicate a block of time to play

Im like 16 hours into my first playthrough of classic RE4, RE7 took about 17, RE2make took me like 33 for routes A and B. Plus you cant just save and quit whenever you need to and have to backtrack to a save point which makes them inconvenient for juggling tasks

it's not that I'm not engaged, it's moreso that I'm scared of being engaged and paying attention, NOT working makes me stressed and feels like I'm doing something wrong. it's hard to relax and just enjoy a game

Yes, the past two years I’ve played significantly less. Which was fine because I did other stuff. Now though I’m sorely tempted to quit my job, get on disability and lock myself inside my room playing vidya till I die.

walk, press button to hit enemy, don't get hit, make the number get bigger, backtrack a bunch, fall asleep
I started reading again, currently going through Blood Meridian. the hermit character reminded me of Ganker

I hit my midlife crisis early so I found myself a zoomerina girlfriend and now I derive my enjoyment in gaming from her.
Either watching her genuinely enjoy the shitty slop that passes for AAA games these days or struggling with "old" games because they don't hold your hand every step of the way.

At 32 I still find myself playing games for 30 hours straight if Im hyped for it. Most recently I played tekken 8 for like 20 hours before I went to sleep. Baldurs gate 3 was a game eat sleep game kind of release.

I'm just as engaged with games.
