Backlog is a moronic cope, it's a fricking video game, you get nothing out of it if you don't want to play it. Doesn't matter if you wanted a bunch of money, just take it as a lesson now

There's too many games now to bother playing something you aren't enjoying. This isn't the 90's where you got one $100 game a year that only had 4 hours of gameplay and you had to just play it over and over again.

    >Do you guys finish your backlogs.
I try out every game on my backlog and if I don't feel like beating something I just delete it and hang on to my save file so I can come back to it if I'm ever in the mood

    >Should i force myself to play the games that i dont like?
No, spend your time playing something you'll actively enjoy. If you're playing a game only for the satisfaction of checking off a box that says "I did it" then you have lost sight of the joy of gaming. Treat your time preciously, anon

What is this, 2006? There's 60,000 games on Steam alone and 59,800 of them suck dick. If it's not good, drop it.
If you're just lethargic on completing something because you gotta go to some extra effort or left it for too long and don't want to get back to it, then maybe.

hidden gems are only hidden gems when its the exact genre you like and you are willing to put up with some jank. if its not in your wheelhouse you will hate it.

ive been trying like a hundred ps2/gamecube/xbox era mediocre/b-game/etc games and theyre forgotten for a reason. so many of them are functional or make a good first impression but are highly repetitive. samurai western, chain dive, cold fear, cold winter, turok evolution, mercenaries, scarface, godfather, the punisher, total overdose, gungrave, samurai 20xx, nano breaker, delta force black hawk down, yakuza the wreckless missions, advent rising, breakdown, brute force, red faction, socom, psi-ops, kengo, bujingai, custom robo, stuntman, smugglers run, genji, red ninja, syphon filter, crimson tears, crimson sea, 10,000 bullets.

theres a reason no one talks about any of these

even the best games, youre not gonna magically like just because you see people who do like them/that genre talking about how amazing they are.

that said, i cant follow my own advice obviously. do like me and download a rom/iso of every game youre interested in and just try them for an hour or so. check out the wiki info and gamefaqs or a longplay on youtube to get more info or skip around if you need to.

There were some games I love now that I would never have known about until I came to Ganker in like 2008, but then again I didnt follow the media and shit much at all back then. Nowadays everyone is plugged in to everything, so much harder to miss things

Honestly i've played hundred of games and i haven't finished a lot of them. When its too story heavy i just can't, after a few days it gets boring and repetitive and i don't care about the characters anymore. I only beat games that aren't too story driven because i want to have fun, not stare at the screen and act like i care about the story of a fricking video game. Graphics and story are the plague of video games, its all about having fun, its not a movie, its not a job.

Ignore all these morons, if you drop games constantly you will always be hoping from game to game. Think about it like this, have you ever regretted finishing a game?

    >kept putting off rpgs I wanted to play until I had more time to play
    >bite the bullet and start chipping away at them even though I get maybe an hour or two of free time a night
I've found that this approach really makes these games stay fresh for longer. I used to always binge RPGs and I'd be sick of them by the end but I'm much more invested now just getting a short burst of play everyday.

I've waded deep into the swamp that is my backlog the past couple of months, and while sure there was a bunch of shit I regret paying actual money for, I've also hit on a few games that turned out to be the most fun I've had in years.
    >Should i force myself to play the games that i dont like?
If you mean "it didn't grab me by the balls in the first ten minutes" then you probably missed out on some good shit. I give a game at least a couple of hours even if it feels off to me at first because there might just be a really good game hiding behind unusual controls or offputting visuals or whatever, but if I'm still not engaged past the "tutorial & introduction" phase, I uninstall.
All that said, don't build backlogs. I've bought so much blatant trash over the years, holy shit.
