Paper mario or mario and luigi rpg style is the best. South park stick of truth does it too

You're not japanese so you can't do a JRPG anyway

          jaypigs because
          >I hate player avatars in limited media like video games. leave the playing your own character part to TTRPGs, which confer complete freedom to players
          >I hate blank slates. let the MC have a story and a role. games with branching paths merge all branches anyway
          >I hate first-person combat. it's an RPG, not a fricking racing game
          >I prefer seeing characters talking and gesticulating instead of clicking through dialogue trees
          >etc.

          >J stands for
crap made up by bitter western studios because the west can't compete with Japan so they had to pigeonhole the latter's games into a separate category

    JRPGs.
WRPGs have been gay visual novels since the late 90s. Your indie game isn't going to be JRPG btw

Jrpgs are the same fricking thing what are you even talking about. Look at ff7r. At least wrpgs can have different art styles instead of just "oops all anime!"

They are ok on each side but you have to scan them before. I think they became niche genre at this point. I mean classic turn based JRPG and typical point and click DnD-like wrpg.

Depends on what you think the difference is. Just go with what feels cool and what you wish you could've played if some else made it.

Also, if you insist on cramming it with woke shit, can you make the characters/models actually look good? Or at least make them not all have weird looking noses? Break the cycle, you can do it!

Trust me I’m the absolute furthest thing from woke.

Well godpeed, hope your game gets finished and strikes big before you hit 100,000 twitter followers. That seems to be the troon event horizon.

nah a lot of devs are troons from the start like the lethal company and Pseudoregalia devs

Stick to your own board. If it doesn't require skill it doesn't belong here.

I probably prefer jrpgs, but that's probably because I'm still stuck in the past as I just finished Vagrant Story for the first time and then started playing it again almost immediately.

Play KOTOR and then Play FF7, then based off whichever one you like more, go from there.
I will say that a KOTORlike is a much larger and more complex project, but since 2010 or so that style of game has been dormant and so a new game of that type would fill an untapped niche.

If you don't even know, you shouldn't be making anything.

The average JRPG is better than 90% of WRPGs but the best WRPGs are better than the best JRPG.

I never liked WRPGs much. Meanwhile I devour JRPGs of all kinds. I lean more toward ARPGs but I like turn based too as long as it's not first person combat.

jrpgs with 3-5 homies in a row
6 is absolute maximum, 5 is a better upper limit, 4 is optimal
    can't stand rpgmaker slop though

3 is my least favorite. it's too limiting in my opinion

Nah they're all over the place but it is three homies and it is a JRPG but if you're talking thee characters turn based then I'm not sure I've played many of those. Digimon cyber sleuth maybe.
