My retired dad plays Startrek Fleet Command and it's midly infuriating he can be so obsessed with a shitty free to play grind fest for 5+ years now but not care about anything else vidya. It's controls that always filter him no matter what I try to get him into. He's happy with star fleet.

Man, that reminds me how my grandpa used to play an MMO with me (Marvel Heroes) He died a few years back, and before that the game shut down. He was pretty bummed about it because it was easily his favorite thing to play. I was a lot more casual about it because I'm not the type to hard commit to a single game, but our old Steam stats still exist and I have like 500 hours to his 7,000. He never found a game that scratched the itch for him anywhere near as well. Still a little sad to think about.

I feel sorry for your grandpa, what happened with that game was a fricking disgrace.

Yeah. It was pretty fun for a while, but it went downhill super fast. I do regret not looking harder for a new game to play together before he got really sick (lung cancer.)

I wish my dad was still alive. He played mad vidya until he passed from cancer in 2001. All the shit that came out since 2001.
In a way playing vidya is a way to honour his memory and I'm not ashamed to say I game. I put it on my resumé and it landed me a job in a field I like.

Life is good. Love your dads before they're gone.

I'm the dad. Not the OP one. My kids are young adults and play Rainbow 6, New Vegas, Yakuza, and emulated stuff mainly right now.
I'm waiting for Tarkov 1.0 and until then I'm not really playing anything. I'd like to play Soldier of Fortune 2 multiplayer but it's dead.
I thought I grew out of games but I swear they're genuinely shit now compared to when I was 12.

Based Tarkov dad. I unironically believe Tarkov is the best game ever made. Yes, even with all the jank and the bullshit and the awful game design decisions and the shit performance and every other shit part of it, absolutely nothing gives me the dopamine rush that Tarkov does. It reignited my love of gaming. The first game in years that I've been able to obsess over and love as much as I loved games as a kid. 2400hrs in. I'm slowing down just because it needs to wipe, but apart from Diablo 2 it's basically the only game I play.

My dad liked Myst, Quake, and a point and click game called Torin's Passage. That's all I can remember him playing. I wish he liked games more, he's just always loved watching TV.

Dad only plays Fallout 4. He loves building his settlements.
He played 76 too, but got banned, twice. Used modded weapons. He spent a lot of money on atoms. Probably around $1000 USD.

He's sixty-nine and does not give two fricks about what's happening in the world. I guess you could categorise him as anti-woke. He's not "I just wanna grill for God's sake", more just not even entertaining any new nonsense. He's immune because he simply does not care.

It was my dad who introduced me to vidya. He really liked sci-fi shooters, his favorites were Metroid Prime and Halo. I also remember him playing often the PS1, but I was too little at that time to recall what games he played. He hasn't touched any vidya since the X360 days though, but sometimes he still brings back some of those memories

Dad does puzzle games on his phone like The Room series, and used to be really into city builders like Pharaoh. My mom wasn't able to get into game much beyond the Sega Megadrive era, but she was a fiend for Columns, Dragon's Fury, Flicky, James Pond and some even older BBC Micro programs like Chucky Egg. She also loved Lara Croft, but couldn't get to grip with the tank controls - she kept a tiny little toy Lara climbing from a rope hanging up with the kitchen utensils.

    still miss you mom

Both my parents at retired. My dad dug up the old NES and N64 with the intent of trying to understand why I liked them but got filtered by OoT after an attempt or two.
My mom was too busy laughing at this but somehow got into it herself shortly after despite barely knowing how to read english.
