can anyone explain why they didn't go for another device like this? why did they go with the horrendous portable design from the showcase (which, let's be honest, was just mimicking the switch)? and no, I don't have a switch.
They lost the battle against piracy in the PSP
So they quadrupled down on security and the consequence is that no one bought the thing, which led to no games being developed for it.
Then sony just gave up the handheld market
which was sad because psp did just fine in japan due to their multiplayer culture at the time and massive success of monster hunter. it just flopped in the west.
Because they don’t wanna dedicate their resources to handheld stuff fully, which is what happened to the Vita already. That new controller is just a streaming device so they don’t need to dedicate anything towards it
Sony hasn't understood anything other than cranking out AAA blockbusters for nearly 10 years now, which is a business model wholly incompatible with handheld hardware.
The vita sold so bad that sony was too embarrassed to put out another handheld. People forget but the vita sales were so awful sony had to combine them with psp sales to try and safe face.
It costs money to make games and they didn't support the Vita enough. I think it makes more sense for Sony to have a handheld that just plays PS5 games but Portal doesn't have enough features, you should be able to stream PS+ from the cloud
Vita was so close to ergonomic perfection. It just had to drop some bullshit like the rear touch panel. Also, people complaining about analog sticks have to understand Vita was already too big to realistically carry in your pocket with some protective case.
vita was too powerful for your average devs to make full use of. this severely limited its library although during a sweet spot it had ports of basically every indie game and even some proper sized games got ported.
PSP >CV collection
and CV trio in NDS are my favorite NDS games >gow: ghost of sparta is one of the best GoW games I think >burnout takedown? was it, burnout game >tekken dark resurrection >patapon series >locoroco series >little big planet >monhun was OK >that silent hill game was kino
I'm also pretty certain I'd have loved tactics ogre and Persona 3 but I wasn't remotely into jap games back then
for Vita, it was >uncharted golden abyss >odin sphere >killzone >dragons crown baby, fuck yeah >rayman origins + legends >sly 2 was kino as usual
Vita was an extremely kino console but it lost western support too soon sadly, I remember frequenting vita generals and 99% of its remaining base was Weeaboos and you needed to know japanese to play latest releases and shit
also psp routinely impressed me with its finesse, I remember how shocked I was with tekken, burnout literally being the same game on the go and how god of wars were simply fucking overwhelming to look at for 00s standards

I'm playing through Freedom Wars.
The game is pretty good, but I sure thought I was going to like it more. The weapon and enemy variety isn't that big, that or they are saving up all the interesting shit for endgame
i use my vita solely as a psp emulator
as for the psp ill say it has a bunch of good racing games. shit like mnc 3 runs pretty well on it and l.a remix is exclusive to it and it is completely different from the consoles versions
motor storm artic edge is pretty fucking good, grand turismo is a bit lacking but it is grand turismo on the go.
Yes, I kind of miss those two fuckers (even if after changing battery my PSP still lives) but I don't think SONY want to compete with Nintendo again for handhelds
also >touchscreens everywhere lmao
I probably should go back and play more PSP games but my favourites from that time were: all the MHs, MGS Peace Walker, Dungeon Explorer, Ace Combat, Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars and Pursuit Force. Probably I'm forgetting something too, PSP had a load of games
>Do you miss Sony handhelds?
I do but at the same time i know sony can't produce anything decent anymore >What were your favorite games?
I mostly played rpgs on both psp and vita
Imageepoch made the best ones for it, too bad they kicked the bucket before making anything for vita
I liked the vita more than the 3ds but the vita didn't have enough games I wanted to play. I ended up mostly using it for games like soul sacrifice and rhythm games. Also my memory card on it started to go bad and I can't even play most shit on it anymore. Supposedly I have to mod the damn thing if I even wanted to buy a replacement thats not from sony? I never looked into it but at this point the system is practically dead to me because I'm not buying one of their shitty cards. I still play my psp occasionally though.
>Also my memory card on it started to go bad and I can't even play most shit on it anymore.
You can mod it to use sd2vita but I also recommend pic related if you have a 1000. You can get a 2.55~2.8GB (latter is more technical) "internal" MC like the 2000/TV.
I don't believe you need a working memory card these days to get the internal MC then you can hack it like usual.
It can be done with IMCUnlock or VitaDeploy, the only prerequisite is booting into them: https://vita.hacks.guide/creating-an-internal-memory-card.html
So how powerful is the vita
People say it's like a ps2
While I think the psp already was pretty much a portable ps2
Had gta
Tokobot got ported back to ps2
I'd say the vita is closer to ps3 but really I have no fucking clue how powerful it is and I think we will never know what it can really do
Kill zone was released early and big Sony studios who would have figured out how to unleash its full power had given up before we ever found out how powerful that thing really is
Nope. Last non-Nintendo handheld I ever saw was a Game Gear and even though places like Walmart had huge Sony sections for like 15 years, PSP and Vita weren't part of it.
Probably would've bought them if they did since I prefer handhelds but as is I'm unable to miss them.
>PSP
Rengoku 2, Guilty Gear Judgment, Metal Slug XX, Gradius Collection, Lumines >Vita
Muramasa Rebirth, IA/VT Colorful, The iDOLM@STER Must Songs red & blue, Deemo: The Last Recital
Bought a psp2000 over a decade ago, then I double dipped with an o3dsXL before realizing that handhelds are not for me. The only time I turn them on is during an electricity outage.
The first time I ever played a lot of snes games was on the PSP when I hacked it back in like 2006 or 7. I never had a snes as a kid only the megadrive. So I played stuff like super metroid on the PSP. It probably ran like shit but I dont remember.
No, Sony sucks.
Last good consoles Snoy made though
PSP was kino.
>LocoRoco
>LCS/VCS
>Patapon
>Pursuit Force
Too bad Vita had no games.
No. I regret every sony console I have ever bought.
game of Thrones normie

It was 2012 and smartphones were well underway already.
The vita sold so bad that sony was too embarrassed to put out another handheld. People forget but the vita sales were so awful sony had to combine them with psp sales to try and safe face.

You mean the WiiU
Why yes I know I am a homosexual
Hot Shots Golf/Tennis. RIP series.
Vita was so close to ergonomic perfection. It just had to drop some bullshit like the rear touch panel. Also, people complaining about analog sticks have to understand Vita was already too big to realistically carry in your pocket with some protective case.
Soul Sacrifice was great
It simply lacked interest from devs who could REALLY push its hardware. What few games did demonstrated what Vita was capable of.
vita was too powerful for your average devs to make full use of. this severely limited its library although during a sweet spot it had ports of basically every indie game and even some proper sized games got ported.
>vita was too powerful for your average devs to make full use of
Then why did its Borderlands 2 version run at 10 FPS?
we'll never know
That was a bad 2k port, which isn't uncommon. XCOM also ran like shit.
Underclocked

yeah
Why haven't you done it yet?
what's RetroPie?
What does CV stand for?
castlevania
sorry, thought it would be common knowledge
Nah I'm just retarded
psp was great, like a portable ps2. i might actually like it more than ps3.
So, games still in Vita prison?
>Muramasa Rebirth
>Soul Sacrifice
>Freedom Wars
>Tales of Hearts R
goddamn, freedom wars was so fun. haven't thought about that game in years.
the vita emulator will save them relatively soon
Funny story about Tales of Hearts R
>https://www.abyssalchronicles.com/news/tales-of-hearts-r-now-available-for-the-ios-in-japan-starting-today
I'm playing through Freedom Wars.

what's the best psp emulator?
ppsspp for pc.
there's also adrenaline for the vita
i guess they psp had some dark magic on it because both emulators run almost the entire psp library with no issues, most can be fixed in the settings
what game is this?
Kenka Bancho
thank you anon, didnt know that there were bancho/yanki games around
Dissdia sold me on PSP. You have no idea how hyped I was when I first saw this kino trailer
i will never forgive the japanese for NT
>Do you miss Sony handhelds?
I do but at the same time i know sony can't produce anything decent anymore

Monster Hunter on xlink Kai/adhoc party was peak gaming and I’m tired of pretending it wasn’t

in raw power psp was above ps2. it was stifled to accommodate battery. vita was nowhere near ps3.
Vita was the portable ps2
Psp was a portable ps1 and a half
it was stronger than ps2
but not as powerful as ps3 thats for certain
>stronger than ps2
tell that to all the ps2 ports that run like shit
>ports
well there's your problem
Hard to miss something that basically never existed.
Never seen anyone with one, even retailers.
Not even someone with a PSP?
Nope. Last non-Nintendo handheld I ever saw was a Game Gear and even though places like Walmart had huge Sony sections for like 15 years, PSP and Vita weren't part of it.

fuck sony for killing them
Modern Sony sucks so much it's unreal

I like the vita but why are gba/snes emulators so shit
yea this and the lack of aftermarket batteries make chinese handhelds better for emulation. shame cause the dpad is godlike.
