As long as they don't look like spreadsheets like Auroa and Rule the Waves II, they pass for me.

As far as multiplayer goes, high-end graphics don't add anything to the experience and even can be a hindrance.
Devs shouldn't focus so much effort on them because serious players are going to play on the lowest settings for superior performance and low ping anyway.

3D graphics not only decrease performance, thez also tend to be more confusing since it is hard to make 3D that looks good from multiple angles. But there needs to be some minimum standard as well, for example the terrible graphics of openX-com are a no-no from me, as in there one cant even tell what is going on. Excel sheets are fine as long as they are easy t read. The only games where 3D is good are building games such as anno or banished.

IMO Banished would work about the same in 2D environment.

Everyone's going to claim that graphics don't matter to them and then endlessly complain about muh graffix the next time a new game comes out. Same as it ever was.

When people say they don't care about graphics what they really mean is they're blinded by nostalgia and need to overlook bad graphics for their 20 year old "classics," not that they're actually okay with bad graphics.

There's a difference between simple (or even non-existent) graphics and ugly graphics though. If the design looks like shit it doesn't matter how advanced it looks.

I don't care about high-end graphics at all, but the game has to be aesthetically pleasing. I won't play a game with over-saturated colors, bad clarity or awful UIs

You can turn off the models, you just can't tell if the unit is moving or not if you do.

Not really as long as the interface doesn't suck to the point you need literal spreadsheets and third party tools to help you deal with all the shit you gotta handle.
Sometimes it feels like graphics and the interface quality goes hand in hand.

I actually really like how this map looks, even if I would probably be too stupid to actually play the game.

Its a mod map, the original map isn't as pretty.
        >I would probably be too stupid to actually play the game.
Honestly everyone feels fricking stupid until they have some small scenarios under their belt since there's a lot to learn, track and the consequences are pretty noticeable. I think the game is pretty interesting if you can deal with the initial hurdle and the shock that comes with it.
The allies economy is far easier to manage if you decide to try it.

I am less likely to buy your game if it look like; a) a flash game, b) a mobilephone game, c) it belongs on an Atari 2600.
I like sprites, I like 3d models, if your artstyle ain't shit, you might make money off me.

Slightly. I'm happy about strategic view in Civ VI and vastly prefer it but V strategic view looks really shit, so I'd say it does matter a bit.

They defend with the strength of a spearman (you need a knight to knock it down). They're immobile but require no upkeep.
