Do you think Baldur's Gate 3 will have a decent story?

Do you think Baldur's Gate 3 will have a decent story, Ganker, especially since they're involving Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul all over again?

I have no prior experience with Larian, but from what I've played of it so far, this is probably FPBP.

OS3 would have sold as well, its not necessary to use the BG name at all. Now WOTC making BG books and comics? Petrifying Minsc so they can reuse him? Sad.

OS3 would have sold well, but you'll never guess what game they canned to trot around the corpse of BG for even more sales.

How can you be hyped for BG3 when you hate the games this is based on? I really don't get Larian fanboys like yourself. If you hate Baldur's Gate so much, shouldn't you be the most disappointed that your precious Larian aren't doing a new Divinity game or something else but are wasting their time on a cash grab of a franchize you hate?

I love BG1, BG2 isn't really a successor but in name with asspulls like Imoen being Bhallspawn too and wine cellar Lich because you need high level encounters inside the city. Even the name is a mockery, it has nothing to do with Baldur's Gate and you never even get there at any point of the game.

                Anonymous

The Imoen stuff was dumb, but I find it more annoying that you get off-screen by a guy who has nothing to add to the bhaalspawn story except MUH STRONG SOUL so he could suck off a tree harder.

yeah you might be mentally challenged. BG2 is one of the greatest sequels of all time right up there with games like Diablo 2 and AoE2. And of course, nobody gives a shit that you aren't visiting the city Baldur's Gate. That's one of the reasons why BG3 is so incredibly pathetic, that Larian actually thinks people have nostalgia for the fricking city of Baldur's Gate, which was just a random city near the Swordcoast Bioware chose to place their first game in, it was never anything more than that.

how does that work? Are they retconning ToB? Because that was a very clear ending to the Bhaalspawn saga where you, the player, were the last remaining one.

          >Because that was a very clear ending to the Bhaalspawn saga where you, the player, were the last remaining one.
(You), CHARNAME, have most of Bhaal's essence but not all of it. It was enough to do whatever you wanted with it but IIRC you never really had all of it.
Also as far I'm concerned ToB is such trash that I'd like to see it retconned out of existence alongside SoD.

I'm pretty sure the Bhaalspawn plot was that there can only be one. So no, in ToB, you are the last Bhaalspawn. Imoen and Sarevok gave up their essence and maybe some others did too, but in the end, you are the last person alive with the Bhaalspawn essence and you can choose to either destroy it or become the next god of murder.

Apparently CHARNAME wasn't the only Bhaalspawn left. Remember that guy who had panic attacks and randomly teleported over the place because of it? Yeah, he and CHARNAME get in a fight and both get killed and this resurrects Bhaal, but not as a full fledged deity, but rather just a demi-god. I'm guessing he sired more Bhaalspawn and started another religion - the Absolute - to make sure he gets the energy required to ascend to the fullest or whatever.

So they are retconning the ending of ToB where you either become the new god of murder or destroy the Bhaalspawn essence forever? That's an incredibly shameless and disrespectful thing to do.

No modern CRPG has a good overarching narrative. Its only singular quests that don't interact outside its path, or some characters.

People didn't want Larian to touch this franchize at all. Baldur's Gate is a fully concluded and wrapped up story. There is nothing to continue with the old story and there is no reason to call your new game Baldur's Gate 3.

For now. But if the IP is truly revived and we end up getting a Baldur's Gate 4 and Baldur's Gate 5 then the first two games will simply be seen as the first "arc". Kinda like running a DnD campaign over the years were you change characters and move beyond your initial party and plot points. Whether it's good or not it's up to you.

    I can't take bg3 and dos2 seriously after I recently finished Wasteland 3.
It's literally the same but better, fallout and not pretending to be actual rpg.
I really hope that the popularity of bg3 with normies doesn't change the current course of crpg genre into casual shit...

    No not a chance.
BG1 was the only game with a reasonable story.
Classic dungeons and dragons adventure scope.
    >you're a mook kill all the kobolds
    >you're competent kill these bandits
    >you're the only one who can stop a scheming maniac from ritually reviving the god of murder
BG2 was doomed to be a hotdog hallway from the outset because you're matched against david warner the gigawizard, but he redeems an otherwise kooky plot.
BG3 is being made by belgians who are spending far more than reasonable ($0 is reasonable) on mocap sex scenes, and other assorted cuckolds.

The DnD changes between 2e and 5e are awful. No one can salvage that situation. So, I'll just watch from a distance.
