      4k is needed to emulate a slot mask effect, but 1080p and 1440p are enough for aperture grille which is what most consumer sets used.

    No. One looks like blurry and messy shit. The other looks like overly pixelated shit. It's gonna look like shit either way, so I don't really bother.
    I also grew up playing games on PC so overly blurry CRT's was never much of a thing for me(I mean outside TV and movies).
