I played Wizardry 8 once a few years ago which has 8 party members and it makes every fight a slog. Half your party is dedicated to buffing/debuffing and crowd control and each individual member is weak as hell. You can never just auto battle when you have that many people, you have to make sure your casters are spending mana and your damage dealers are focusing enemies cuz even generic mooks can frick you up.

Grimrock is probably your best introduction.
That, or you could give Vaporum a try. It's not technically a blobber, you play only one character, but it has all the usual systems, interface and structure, and the fact that you only control a single character makes it very simple. For people more experienced with the genre, this is a problem because the game can get very dull, but to get you used to the formula, it can be pretty nice.

Most "Blobbers" are turn based. And both turn based and real time toghether are generally called DRPGs. Appending real time to DRPG is mich more reasonable.

          Anonymous

          >And both turn based and real time toghether are generally called DRPGs.
In 25 yeas of being part of every possible type of RPG community, I have never seen this abbreviation. I suppose you are implying the term is Dungeon RPG, but again, that is something nobody ever uses.
The term Dungeon has been thrown a lot around these games back in like late 90's, and later on it made a comback in the term dungeon crawler - which hover can refer to a very different type of game. The term "blobber" isn't very nice, but it has been around for two decades and it is quite descriptive. There is no problem with it.

But as one of the at best 200 people who actually finished it, I can sadly say the story is really underwhelming. The whole game is, on many levels.

    Elminage series also worth mentioning.

not sure if anyone is in my shoes but I'm an enormous autist and it triggers me how rectangular blobber worlds are.. I genuinely want to like the genre, the gameplay itself seems fire and every blobber I've ever seen was filled with so much soul it's unreal but I just can't self-insert into the world if I know these dudes are living in a fricking square-grid dimension........ it'll be out before the years end at the latest. devs are talking about being close to release but they are debating on which features are going to be pushed after launch. The auction house is one of those features. Another one is whether or not hardcore and softcore will be on the same server and how that will work. Playerbase doesn't like being segmented as they are now.

I've been deep diving on older SMT games and I realize I do not like dungeons because they don't feel like actual locations and instead feel like a maze written in the back of some kid's magazine. I like the gameplay, usually, but I don't enjoy mapping out dungeons.
