Does 2D Yoshi really need to exist?

Does 2D Yoshi really need to exist? Does this series offer anything that Mario, Donkey Kong, or Kirby's platformers don't do better?

it got demoted to being a 2D collectathons for babbies, like age 4-6 I assume.
I guess it fills that niche.

I thought that was Kirby’s niche.

filler series to make it look like switch has more games which is why they include it on list of must have exclusives even though it's shit like pokemon

Egg-throwing with the aiming reticle is a mechanic unique to Yoshi's games that works best in a 2D platformer. Though the modern games are so piss-easy that I can't imagine they do anything interesting with it.

This game apparently sold 3 million copies but I've not heard a single person say a single thing about it
I don't know why they keep trying to make Yoshi a standalone thing because it always feels just like Mario for babies (and Mario is already pretty much for babies)

It was pretty okay, but nothing to write home about. One of its biggest problems is that it never uses the flipped versions of levels in a creative way. They're only used for finding items or Poochy pups. I'd say its game play style is more like a modern "Yoshi Story," while Woolly World was more like "Yoshi's Island."

It's just a solid game. Nothing amazing or awful. The rewards system is fun, because you can unlock different costumes and the game has a lot of different ideas but doesn't expand on any of them too much. It's very much a 7/10 game. The main strength is the visuals and the main weakness is the music.

crafted world could have been a cult classic if they:
    1. streamline the collecting,
    2. add something to the pup chases I don't know what, maybe make it more integrated into the level rather it's own "backside" thing
    3. get harder sooner
And wooly world was great. Yoshi is doing better than he has for a long time.

I'm still waiting for Nintendo to bring it to the Switch. It can't be that difficult.

Since Switch already has Crafted World, Nintendo probably wouldn't find it necessary (it's HAL's choice to have the upcoming Kirby remake sit on the Switch alongside Star Allies, not Nintendo's). At least it got a 3DS port, so it's not technically dying on just the Wii U.

I'll never understand why Nintendo is so praised when 90% of the games they make are essentially shovelware. And the games they put tons of effort into don't really do anything special. But hey, they're still better off than the typical AAA game market where 100% of it is walking movie game simulator shovelware. I had the misfortune of seeing someone gush about The Last of Us recently and literally all they talked about was the story. But what about the fricking game?

Normalgays want so bad so for video games to be babified into barely interactable movies and at the same time want to be taken seriously and want the medium to be taken seriously when all they want to do is remove what makes the medium special in the first place. At the same time, Nintendo barely does anything to help because they make barebones as frick video games that revolve around thirty to ten year old gaming standards instead of trying to push things forward.

For example take BOTW, they got in on the open world meme ten years late, and the game did nothing unique and the world is emptier than an open world game made in 2010. There was nothing to see or do, you're dropped in an open green field and told to have fun.

I'm so tired of video games constantly moving backwards instead of forwards. Budgets have gotten higher, yet the soul and scope has gotten smaller. Why the frick are normalgays so obsessed with empty fields and platformers that could've been made in the 90s/2000s?

      >I'll never understand why Nintendo is so praised when 90% of the games they make are essentially shovelware.
If you look at the very highly rated games they made this gen that people will still be talking about a decade from now you have
      Smash
      Animal Crossing
      Odyssey
      BotW
      Luigi's Mansion
      Mario Party Super Stars
      Metroid Dread
      Splatoon 3

That's 8 games in 5 years, with between them around 2000 hours of content. That's why people are fine with it even if a lot of the other games are just solid. When they deliver, they deliver.

Yeah I dunno it was fun to look at but I think would have liked it Alot more if they actually used the 2.5D aspect of the game more than outside of 1-1

I don't think I want another 2D platformer from Nintendo ever again unless it's Metroid.

I these games would just be better in 3D simple as.

Well pretty much everyone here would agree. But the point of 2D games in the modern age is that certain demographics find 3D games very difficult to play, particularly people over 50 and young children. Considering Yoshi's design it's not that surprising they decided to go with 2D for the kids. However, with the switch being purchased 90% by young adults I would assume a 3d yoshi isn't out of the question.
