they make older 2d games look better, but you can get pretty much the same result on a good quality modern display with the right shader.

as for 3d games, i personally prefer them emulated at higher resolutions on modern displays, but to each their own.

this, the scan lines will "fill in" details for sprites but polygons look better upscaled

        >polygons look better upscaled
Yeah if you upscale the render and output an actual higher resolution signal. If you plug a PS2 into a modern TV and just upscale the 480i signal it’s going to look worse than sprites

It's mostly for games with sprites, but PS2 is where it gets debatable. If you play a PS2 game on native resolution on a new TV it will look like shit. If you play them on a higher resolution the models will look better but HUD elements and textures will still look bad.

So yeah, they actually compliment older titles but generally people mean older than PS2.

CRT is mandatory for 480i (majority of PS2 games).

Its actually the main reason CRTs are still relevant. 240p on a CRT has already been matched by CRT shaders on things like retrotink 5x pro.

That looks like a shit CRT tho. Heres KH2 on a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alA7b1dnkTg&t

wrong, PS2 is where it matters MOST. Go learn how an interlaced format works and why it's shit on LCDs (for games)

Kinda. I remember ALLTP looking better on my big old Sanyo CRT than on any other TV I had since, that would kinda smooth out the edges of pixels on SNES games, though NES and PS2 shit still looked the same.

In Aria of Sorrow, you discover that now that Dracula is dead for good there is an imbalance in the forces that have a control over the world, you literally cannot have good without the bad, if there's no Dark Lord (someone who sides with the force known as Chaos) committing evil deeds every once in a while then the holy powers of God weaken. So it's not that Dracula was a constant because of how strong he was, even Death itself did not just serve Dracula because of some feign sense of loyalty, Death serves the primal force that is Chaos, and Dracula just happened to be the Dark Lord exercising the will of Chaos. Dawn of Sorrow ends on an uncertain note about the future of the world with no Dark Lord being present, but Konami decided to shove the franchise into the trash when things were just getting good.

If you are serious about retro gaming a CRT is a requirement.

I have a trinitron 32in with component and it dunks on any emulators and shaders I have tried on my PC.

You're going to want to avoid a TV like this for systems like the NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS1. These "HD-ready" CRTs process an image much like a modern LCD HDTV and are not suited for retro gaming.

I'm pretty sure they're just too europoor to get a decent working CRT and all the old Consoles. I'm collecting right now before theres a huge boom.
I mod and put in flash carts in any older console. or emulated Disk drives (ODE) so i can just put on a micro SD but basically ive got

Gameboy Color, GBA, DS and 3DS, PSP and Vita (modded with IPS screen and a flash cart), Sega Saturn, Dreamcast (modded with ODE and SD card) Super Nes with a flash cart. PS2 (with FMCB and a 500GB HDD for all the classic games i could want MGS3 and the GTAs and more) a Modded Wii and Wii U and PS3, some mini consoles like the SNES and the PSX and genesis. Then the modern consoles. PS5, XBX and (if you can call it modern) Switch.

I learned to Solder and mod on my own. Its an amazing hobby and as i get older (im 33) i realize its good to have a hobby that interests you, ive seen so many 65-70 year olds doing nothing but feeding ducks at the pond and going crazy. Possibly. Especially if they are games with low resolution textures. Once you get 480p games like Kingdom Hearts in the OP the effect of CRTs starts to diminish.
But the most pronounced differences are in sprite based games designed for CRTs

It's absolutely and categorically not a myth. Older games were made for those TVs and they look like unadulterated cow shit without them, or without shaders in the case of emulation. 2D sprite art looks particularly bad without

Myth. Compare the HD remaster on an OLED to this eye cancer.

In my personal experience, CRT shines when you're displaying 60 FPS content on it.
30 is the same as LCD and lower stuff like PS1 FMVs are actually worse, because the motion clarity actually hurts more than helps.
Things like improving pixel art etc kinda happens up close, but from an playing distance its not very different from some basic ass bilinear filter.
Now the actual motion quality (when running a 60 FPS content) is just unbeatable.

Visually, yes, they absolutely do. Seeing the same system, running the same game, on a CRT and an LCD side-by-side I can't believe you wouldn't see the difference. It's more than just that, though. Playing on a CRT is a whole package of visual and audio experiences. It is, as you said, comfy.
Shaders are good too, though. Just don't get bogged down in adjustments are comparisons. You can spend the rest of your life researching and changing values in a fricking menu. The goal here is to play and enjoy some games.

"LED" is just LCDs with led lights behind it.

Are you going to argue that an LCD is better, then!?
It's been so long since I've purchased a screen I actually forgot the change to LED.
