Does anyone else feel like Dark Souls 3 (and Elden Ring) is missing something that the first two games had?

Does anyone else feel like Dark Souls 3 (and Elden Ring) is missing something that the first two games had? I think I might call it a sense of adventure. Dark Souls 1 and 2 had this in boatloads but 3 and Elden Ring just feel kinda soulless, although the gameplay of 3 is good.

No, Dark Souls III is the collapse and ending of the story, it felt that way and was designed like that. Elden Ring does feel off, but idk why.
    >Dark Souls II
lmao, that one is utterly soulless.

Fair enough on DS3 I guess, although I don't like it personally. DS2 is nowhere near being soulless though

No. Elden Ring is the best in the series for that adventure feel and DS3 is great aside from all the grey and the shit lighting.

Yeah... I think it needs a broken deadzone and shitty controls, some non-rooted animations that make the character look like he's sliding around and then you have dark souls 2 2

I’ve only played demon’s, ds1 and elden ring, and the first two are way better than elden ring, but that’s probably mostly due to the open world aspect as I felt the legacy dungeons were pretty good. Elden ring also just feels too long and too big. It’s fun to try a new build and do a quick run through of demon’s or ds1, you can’t really do that in elden ring, so in that way it kind of lacks replayability. Imo, I would say demon’s is probably the best out of all of them. While being the shortest, it is also the most “complete” experience with its consistent atmosphere and gameplay that doesn’t suffer from some of the unpolished late game sections that ds1 did. I also enjoyed how every stage and boss in demon’s kind of had its own unique “gimmick”. Some of the levels in ds1 by comparison just feel feel generic and repetitive. Given that ds1 had already lost some of the magic that demon’s had, I can only imagine that the series continued to get worse as it progressed

DeS had good levels but a lot of it is worse than Dark Souls. Healing items, shitty build variety, faith is almost useless, world isn't interconnected. I don't prefer gimmicky bosses either.

        >faith is almost useless
Bro, the regen tank build is like the most op build in the game, what are you talking about?

DaS3 is pretty linear but imo it's the most fun game to just turn on and run through thanks to how tightly it's designed. Despite the linearity you can get most builds rolling pretty quick, only faith lags behind a bit since the pure miracle playstyle doesn't really come online until you get Lightning Stake (and its a pretty distinct playstyle from the other casters to the point where most players can't figure it out and just dismiss it), but even then Faith builds can just leech off pyro until then.

Dark Souls 1 is a game Miyazaki wanted to make and his way of having a second go at the same style of game after Demon's Souls, changing up a few things with the gameplay and world design. Dark Souls 2 had people working on it that wanted to try different things and a general different approach to the game despite keeping the core gameplay, it feels more like a King's Field game, especially the story. We know they wanted to do much more with it but couldn't. Dark Souls 3 feels like a contractual obligation that miyazaki had to fulfill. It's just Bloodborne-lite with none of the things that made Bloodborne good. Elden Ring feels like a cash grab, and it worked, because it's just modded dark souls 3 and does nothing new and adds nothing of value in general. The story is more nonsense that will never make sense and ultimately does nothing for anyone even if you do piece together some pieces.

The entire souls shit is tired and worn out, they need something new. They've needed something new after Bloodborne, honestly. And they did have something new: Sekiro. But for whatever reason they found it necessary to backtrack and shit out elden ring AKA dark souls 3.5 which was fricking stupid of them. They can make real video games when they aren't focused on souls shit roll simulators, but sadly that's what their cultists want most.

      >Dark Souls 3 feels like a contractual obligation that miyazaki had to fulfill. It's just Bloodborne-lite with none of the things that made Bloodborne good
At least the gameplay of DS3 was pretty fun, and Gael was a good way to close out the series. You're right that Elden Ring was a cashgrab, one that I fell for. I always find myself reaching for ds1, 2, 3, or Bloodborne (haven't played Demon's yet, should get RPCS3 set up for it).
      >And they did have something new: Sekiro
Sekiro was a good change of pace and a good game, but I'm not very fond of the levels and I hate the minibosses. I just beat it this week and Isshin was a cool boss, he did take me a while though lol.

the problem with Sekiro is that samurais are gay and I therefore won't play it
remake it with cool french duelists or something and I may consider it

It's definitely worth playing. I personally put 1, 2, and 3 on the same level, Bloodborne ahead of them, and Sekiro slightly below them. Elden Ring is way below everything else. I need to get to playing Demon's

At least it's fun. I hate Soul of Cinder with a passion but Gael and Midir are cool. The Ringed City in general is great

Soul of Cinder is soul though. Having it cycle through various fighting styles was really cool, and the climax with it reverting to the Gwyn moveset, with his theme coming in, was fantastic.
DaS3 has some really obnoxious and pointless memberberry moments, but SoC was handled well.
Also love Freida and Nameless King, all DaS3 late game bosses are great.

          >Having it cycle through various fighting styles was really cool, and the climax with it reverting to the Gwyn moveset
Maybe in its mechanics but it just feels like cheap fanservice to me. I like to think of Gael as the final boss of the game because it's actually interesting.
          >love Friede
Feels like a Bloodborne boss in Dark Souls. Not a fan
          >Nameless King
I find his first phase a lot harder than the second, interestingly. No Midir? No Demon Prince?

I mean I just said all the late game bosses are great anon. The only DLC boss that isn't really all that great is the one dude and the giant wolf, which just felt like filler.

With DS3 I was kind of disappointed with how isolated the hub felt. In DS1 it was always a pleasant surprise to open up a shortcut back to the shrine. When ever you saw an npc sitting around the shrine, they felt like they were simply just passing through as a natural cause of their journey.

DaS2 has the best hub. A true center point, has most important NPCs but in a way that feels organic, and I don't know if it's just the godly music carrying it in this regard but it's comfy as frick. Firelink Shrine in 1 never feels like a full fledged hub and in 3 it's forced too hard into the role despite its isolation.
