Yes, I'm at the point where i almost exclusively emulate.
Can stream PS2/PS3 era games to my switch too, so i can play everything comfy in bed.

Skill based games became popular recently.
I remember playing C&C1 when I was young.
Turtling every time having fun and enjoying cool video sequences.
Now RTS is all about how many clicks you can do like an autist lol
    Work for after your work.
    Same with wow, ff7 etc.
Either that or games have checklists like an excel sheet lol They are even prepping the kids with pokemon.

All games are easy to play. It's learning them that tastes the sweetest. If you're constantly in desperation to relax, maybe you've got some issues that need to be worked out. Ignoring them never works.

the 3DS version lets you speed up battles and has maps located on the bottom screen, however if you want higher quality graphics and a symphonic soundtrack then the PS2 version has got your back, at the end of the day you can't go wrong with either version of DQVIII so go with the one that appeals to you more

Are you excited for the new dq game? Im hoping its still colorful

DQXII? there's not much information about it at the moment but I'm pretty confident the game will be great so I'll be looking forward to it whenever a teaser or some screenshots are released

What's wrong with DQ6 I feel like no one talk about that game

DQVI kinda filters a lot of people due to its dungeons, high encounter rate, and a number of other interesting decisions, personally I enjoyed it but it's definitely one of the tougher DQs to get into

you can add the symphonic ost on the 3ds version. imo the 3ds version is the way to go.

yeah that's another plus towards the 3DS version if you choose to do so

Depends on how you define "easy to play".
I love Fromsoft games and they tend to be quite easy for me, but I'm completely baffled by combo systems or games that require way more inputs like Nioh or Wo Long. I can still beat the games, but I don't find them comfortable to play.

man you gotta keep going. it keeps that unbelievable comfy vibe all the way through. you just gotta sort of fully immerse into the comfiness. the stories of each of the villages are what it's all about. and grinding out vocations.

That's a cool way of looking at it. But isn't every Dragon Quest structured in the same way? I'm currently playing XI and everytime I reach a new place, there's some little adventure to be had. Always loved that about this series.

Believe it started focusing on town stories in DQVI, although DQXI does have small stories in each town you to still have the main story to motivate you to progress in game.
Most of DQVII is 'Go save the next island once all islands are saved then we'll start talking about the big bad villain'

I've played dq9 loads and wanted to make it a bit harder, so I came up with a 'nuzlocke' sort of idea for a playthrough. let me know if this is a good idea or what i can change for more fun or so i wont wanna kill myself:

    >randomise vocation at start of game
    >choose random weapon the vocation can use INCLUDING fisticuffs
    >when hero dies reset to random vocation from level 1 and reset all skill points, then rechoose weapon
    >when party member dies, they're dead FOREVER. make new party member then assign new class (get new equipment/sell old)
alternatively, you could just reset them with a different vocation if you cant be bothered to make a new guy.

    rules for more difficulty:
    >only a new party member can join once a main boss has been killed
    >no healing except through items/no healing at all? (includes status)
    >alchemy gear only

obviously you'd need cheats to change your vocation if you die and reset your stats/etc, but im not sure if this just makes the game harder or harder to play the game. lots of grinding but i dont really care.

You're going to have a hell of a time once enemies start critting / casting Thwack.
Have you done a solo run? It's a lot of fun and really tests your knowledge of the game's systems.

        >thwack

frick, completely forgot that was even a thing. i remember wiping out to that a couple times before, too.

I remember having fun doing a solo run.
The first few bosses were kind of aids especially that one illness boss, but after unlocking vocations it was fun tactucally leveling up a bunch of classes to get jyst the right skills and loadouts to beat a boss.
Especislly when you realize that the skill points you get are universal.
So you can level up a certain low level class to gain tons of skill points and the change vocations to invest those into a skill tree of a completely different class so you can theoretically gain busted skills earlier than usual with the downside of not being able to invest less into another class' skill tree.
Also the skills and passives you unlock also carryover to other classes so you can use a monk's psyche up skill while being a warrior so you can get some weird synergy going on.
Also when you have a full party all the exp the party gets divvied up, but when you're on your your singular character gets all the exp so that also balances the game a bit around the fact that you're playing a solo run and it als makes it easier to lvl up certain classes to get a handy skill for your loadout.

haven't done a solo run but I can imagine it must be pretty interesting. how do you manage healing? do you just buy a shit ton of items or do you stay sage majority of the time?

          Anonymous

You start out as minstrel which has heals I basically beelined for the paladin class for how tanky it is+ it has midheal which was fine enough to get me through the game and used that as a basis for my build.
But monk has a skill called meditation which is a selfheal skill that heals slightly more than midheal and is also more cost effective.
But the neat thing about meditation is that once you unlock it all classes can use it and due to how little mp it cost even MPlet classes can run it without really having to worry about mp consumption.
Also the priest skill tree has a passive that gives your magic mending a universal base increase so you can heal a decent amount even when your class doesn't have a lot of points in the healing stat.
So it might not be a fullheal, but you always have a decent healing skill you can fallback so that it makes item management a bit easier.
But you are obviously supposed to use an item if you get critted and am almost dead which is also pretty cool, because usually you can go through the entire game without ever using your healing items.

Dragon Quest IX was great, I loved it. Although my biggest gripe with this game is the amount of grinding you have to do before you can move forward. It's not exactly hard but it's differently a grind.
