CPU isn't strong enough to play Paradox strategy games at a speed that isn't suicide inducing even without mods

Very specific and very helpful, seeing ck3 in the official teaser for the deck made me hopeful but I will take your word for it.

I tend to play games that aren't suited for controllers and are CPU intensive, shame it turned out to be another Bing Bing Wahoo Machine(Linux edition).

I run Imperator Rome without any issues. I haven't tried any mods for now but I also wouldn't know how it compares to other Paradox games.

        >emulates everything though switch and like 50% of ps3 library
most of the switch library runs like ass and that ps3 50% is even worse

if you buy a 200 dollar dock

        > if you buy a 200 dollar dock
I'm using a $30 usb-c hub to dock my steam deck. It works perfectly fine.

        >battery life isnt the best, not a particular issue for me most of the time but still
        >it crashes a lot, hard crashes, system reset level of crashes
        >for older games you might need to jump through hoops to get running and configure the controls

        >desktop mode is kinda shit without kb+m but its been improved somewhat

i still love it, but it has its limitations

        > docked experience is not the best
What issues are you having? Granted I haven't played it a lot in docked mode, I've only started using it lately but it all works out of the box. The only thing is that you will have to enable FSR and that's it.

docked mode sucks when you try to push the resolution to anything over 800p on any game that has come out in the last 10+years. you also have to disable rumble for bluetooth controllers (at least for the elite series 2) or it will disconnect every 10 seconds.
it is really nice for emulation on your tv though.

is that why my switch pro-controller was disconnecting constantly?

anyways that made me buy a DS4 controller which honestly is a much better option for playing PC games on my big TV

too bad i use the trackpad on that thing so much, half of it got super greasy

          >What issues are you having?

im mostly let down by the lack of options and some glaring omissions

for instance, power saving configurations are not disabled on docked mode or when connected to a power source, like, bro, im fine with half-rate shading on a small screen if i save battery life, that shit should be disabled when im playing on my huge ass TV while the machine is connected to a power source

also i would really like it if you were allowed to set launch parameters that run only when docked, you can set the resolution for some games via launch params, this way i could launch my games at the correct resolution when docked and when playing portable

It runs Switch games at higher FPS and resolution than the Switch itself does.

Because the game itself is poorly optimized. It doesn't run well on the Switch either.

      a steam controller 2.0
      >which people loved so much valve had to sell their remaining stock for 5 dollars

a lot of people bought the steam controller, i can tell because when i install a game on my deck i often see a million steam controller configs for it

the deck controls are great btw

its something custom made for the deck and it has a ton of ports, put i think it gets firmare update or somethin'

honestly JSaux seem to make the best docks for the deck, they even have one with an integrated SSD drive on it, so you get extra storage when playing docked, which is a great idea

I don't like the bumper shoulder buttons but you can easily remap them to the back buttons and modding games on it is a bit of a hassle.

Honestly not really, as long as you have realistic expectations (i.e. not trying to run the most demanding current gen games at max settings 60 FPS). It's still the best computer you can buy for that amount of money, but also in a handheld console form factor.
