Does Xenosaga get better?

So far I'm halfway through the movie of the first Xenosaga and it seems pretty good, 7-8/10, and I heard the third one is the best. I'll drop it if III isn't some mindblowing masterpiece though.

Xenosaga is a pretentious mess that kind of devolves into a space soap opera by the end. It's not even worth a watch, let alone a playthrough.

Well I'm watching at 4.00x speed right now so it might barely be still worth my time.
What do you have against space soap opera btw?

        >What do you have against space soap opera btw?
The fact that this is supposed to be grandiose scifi epic about examining the progress of humanity into the space age in a universe where the supernatural elements of Abrahamic religions are more rooted in reality, but instead boils down to the personal drama of a handful of characters in the series. I could go into more spoiler territory, but it's just not up to snuff.

I think I see the point you're trying to make, but if I want to get very technical, I see nothing wrong with making the climaxes of a story about "progress of humanity", etc etc, based all on personal drama, all stories are about characters after all.

It's personal drama that's only very tangentially died to those. This isn't like Xenogears where the people involved in that personal drama are powerful figures with the fate of the world in their hands. Well, I guess they kind of are, but in a way more roundabout and indirect way than the former.

Again, I want to make clear that I think I get your point. But still, that's technically not a valid complaint. That's basically how War and Peace is as well and since I'm too lazy to explain why it's good, I'll just say critics tend to agree that War and Peace is great (I know that's an argumentative fallacy, appeal to authority etc, don't really care though)

Shion's character arc eventually amounts to daddy issues and having to choose between her douchebag not-so-dead husband and Allen. That's the main character arc explored in Xenosaga III.

I'm sure there's summaries out there and you could get through it all in an hour or so after following character and place links around (I do this with Warhammer 40k since I have no interest in the games or books)

As they should. That said, Xenosaga still has plenty of interesting lore and elements that carried over from Xenogears, the Perfect Works and also elements that carried over to Xenoblade 1&2.

I don't get it bro, let's say you think Undertale is a shitty zoomer meme game for example. Let's say you try it for 10 minutes and think it's gay and shit. But your friends tell you IT GETS BETTER!!!!! So you watch it a playthrough YouTube at 4.00x speed to get what they're all talking about. Does that example make more sense for you?

            Anonymous

No. That's still fricking stupid. You already know it sucks, watching it isn't going to make it suck any less. Watching it at 4x isn't going to make it suck any less. If you hated the experience playing it, it's not going to improve. Unless you liked the cutscenes, there's no point, and if you did like them enough to want to keep seeing them, it would (or should) be enough of a pull to keep you playing until the next scene.
If you don't like it, just stop playing it and find another game. You're just wasting hours of your own time you could spend playing or watching something you actually enjoy. That's the point of video games, entertainment.

Yeah, they got the London Philharmonic Orchestra to perform most of Xenosaga Episode I's OST. It cost a pretty penny for sure.

          >I mean at least Xenoblade ended up getting to that level, and it's still run by Takahacki right?
By Xenoblade, Monolithsoft learned that making plot dumps wasn't feasible, so they focused more on the gameplay side of things. Ironically, the Xenoblade games have more cutscenes per game than Xenosaga, but they balance it out with potentially hundreds of hours of playtime. Nintendo also gave them a pretty generous development period for Xenoblade 1. That game took around four years to finish, so its didn't suffer the same budget and dev time constraints that Xenosaga had.

I thought it was like all the other trilogies I've ever experienced where they're all shit but the last one is actually amazing

Always hilarious to me how people go for the "they didn't have time/money!" excuse when there are multiple interviews that not only kill those moronic rumors for good but also blatantly say the problem was with Takahashi being a lazy quitter.

The games were unironically supposed to compete with the likes of FF, but Takahashi was a woefully overambitious hack who didn't quite realize that novelistic scifi plots don't really translate well to JRPGs.

Episode III is a wonderful game but it's also the shortest and the game with less content of the three.
Art direction was finally good, but unlike Episode I, most of the "cutscenes " are told through text boxes with static images, similar to Wild arms 5 or Persona 3/4.
Episode I had an obscene amount of cutscenes.
Episode II post game doubles the play time of it, and I had dozens of minigames and real-time cutscenes.
Episode III is a better game, but still.
Oh, and don't let other people trick you that Xenosaga has more plot than Gears and Blade. Each Xenosaga is 20, 30hrs long, unlike Gears that's 60~70hrs long.
Xenoblade 1 and 2 are huge as well.

I geniunely wonder how a JRPG gay's mind works and how they constantly give shitty games this incredible scores. A drab, ugly movie game with a nonsense, simplistic battle system (what the frick does roulette have to do with a space opera?) that dumps boring ass, kojima-tier encyclopedia dialog on you every 20 seconds and has practically no music to save room for more encyclopedia dialog. You spend the majority of the game running around gray corridors to find the next 30 minute encyclopedia Kojima cutscene until the game just decides to end. Then your reward for sticking through it all is a bad game (II) and a slightly improved game that had all the story cut out because they figured out they weren't going to get their 8 game series.
