I don't like the idea of the buddy sections. They stop all momentum and pacing in the game so you can be a little moronic bird for 10 minutes. and they get more often as the game goes on. Some of them are fun, but there should have been fewer than they had.
I was a little unimpressed given how much this game is fellated.
I'd take any entry of the Sonic trilogy, Mario World or the first DKC over it, easily when it comes to 4th gen platformers.
MCs are mammals
tropical island/industrial level themes
bop on enemy's heads, or rotate aggressively into them, to defeat them
wooden containers to break, sometimes containing something that lets you take an extra hit before dying
fruit collectible that gives an extra life when you collect enough
collectible bonus room tokens
ride on other animals
max completion is greater than 100%
2nd game is mostly more of the same but better, 3rd game isn't as well received
got a 5th gen karting spinoff that is arguably the best in the genre for that console gen
etc. etc. etc.
The attacks in DKC also affect momentum. You get a speed boost if you kill an enemy, and it's the same button as the run button when you hold it. Crash doesn't have any momentum, his spin moves at the same speed as his normal movement.
Crash can bounce on certain objects as well, but DKC has different kinds of movement like climbing and hanging, and being fired out of barrels. You can lift, carry and throw barrels.
The voodoo mask that lets you take two hits is kind of like having both Kongs. I always felt like the gems in Crash were more inspired by Sonic. But there are definitely similarities.

Now who's bringing up superficial elements?
Crash streamlined the experience to the core, fun components from DKC, and spiced up the level design to take advantage of 3D environments and different perspectives.

Sure, I mean Sonic is also a mammal who spins to attack. Anyway I remembered that Crash has hanging sections as well, although they don't play like DKC and you are barely mobile during them.
Overall Crash doesn't play nearly as mobile as the DKC games, it's slower paced and a lot stiffer, but more precise - as far as I remember.

I like Crash Bandicoot a lot, especially 2 and 3/Warped, but I have to say I still prefer DKC2 and 3. Rare just totally nailed the movement and soundtracks in these games. Easily the best on SNES.
When I was a kid in the 90's, I adored DKC2. By far my favourite game in the SNES era. Hated DKC3.
Some days ago, I was playing DKC3 with my nefews I realized how much of a great game DKC3 was. I guess I didn't like it becausr it made me feel like a poorgay back in the day, with the Nintendo64 being shown as the current console in the saving room.
DKC is the worst of the trilogy. It's unrefined, the controls are the least smooth.
DKC3 is a close second to DKC2, the best. People don't accept this because they hate Kiddy and the soundtrack is arguably the worst, but they're wrong.
DKC3 is pure trash and only weirdos defend it for some twisted reason. Stages suck, music sucks, bosses suck, overworld sucks, everything sucks EXCEPT the playable characters. If you hate Kiddy you have no opinion and should be ignored because it doesn't matter to the gameplay.
The first one is better, but that's comparing a blowjob to a rimjob. Both incredible experiences that everyone needs to have.
can't even play as donkey kong buddy
You litetally play as donkey kong's buddy

They should remake it, the graphics havent aged very well.
Worst comment I've read in awhile, this game still looks awesome on a CRT
It does, but in a just world they'd be able to use the original SGI models to make a high res high framerate version.
I wish they would make an HD version with the original full resolution renders.

>Donkey Kong Country 2 is the best platformer of all time
>implying
Not as long as FLINK exists in this timeline.
Okay, but does Flink have David Wise in it? Didn't think so
Billy Madison reference
I disagree. It's a very good platformer but I think Donkey Kong Country 3 is the best platformer ever.
Donkey Kong Country 3 sucks!
Not a terrible game in itself but it's easily the worst of the 3.
Battletoads is better, same with dkc, Sonic 2 and many more.

For me the holy trinity was SMW, DKC2, and MMX.
Can't argue with that to be honest
Nah, Crash improved on the DKC formula and Crash isn't close to being the best platformer either.
Crash? As in the fricking bandicoot? How the FRICK does crash use the same formula as DKC

It's all superficial. Gameplay-wise Crash doesn't iterate on DKC in any way, and does its own thing instead.
You can jump out of a slide even if you're mid-air, that's DKC-inspired. And, really, what is spinning if not rolling horizontally?

What is your favorite stage OP?

It looked horrible to me, even back then.
The pre-rendered characters and backgrounds just like like hot vomit and the platforming is moron-level as well.
The only worse franchise I can think of is Mortal Kombat, for similar reasons.
offtopic but why was diddy so sloppily colored compared to dk in the first one? tons of gray pixels whereas DK was basically flawless.
>it's dkc2 spammer again
