Jesus fricking christ is he allowed to say that on a blue board?
We only have a possible Maxwell or Wilson rework up next. "One to go", well, who will it be?
Wilson seems like he wouldn't need a rework. My money is on Maxwell considering so much of his character is completely unusable in DST.
The devs at Klei laid out a "roadmap" at their official forums, which described the final character rework update to "set the stage". They confirmed that both Wilson and Max are getting a rework, because they said that "all characters" are getting the rework treatment. My theory is that Wilson is getting a rework update, and Maxwell's will be combined with an update that will put an end to the Return of Them arc.
What should be the new mechanics for Maxwell, anyway? I really think they should do better with his black magic powers, you know, but generally just rework all of him.
That would make the most sense. Something to change up the mechanics or traditional gameplay loop that all of the character can use their new toys and abilities in would be good.
He's certainly not worthless or anything. But his primary mechanic of making clones is essentially just "having friends" in multiplayer, but worse. And iirc his other gimmick of starting with some neat items doesn't even apply?
I wouldn't mind seeing a more game-changing sort of rework. Give him something as impactful as webber not having to deal with enemy spiders and whatnot. Honestly just let him walk around in the dark or something. Give him more interesting spells. Let him have some kind of unique interaction to frick with other characters/items in some way that benefits him. Idk let him make sketchy monkey-paw deals or something.
>I wouldn't mind seeing a more game-changing sort of rework
I agree with most of your suggestions, except for
>Let him have some kind of unique interaction to frick with other characters/items in some way that benefits him. Idk let him make sketchy monkey-paw deals or something.
Everyone will just kill/ban anyone who plays Maxwell. Lore-wise, he has no more power over the Constant, so he can't really strike a deal with anyone since he is in the same situation as the other survivors. Most characters won't trust him anyway, since he was the one who got them trapped in the Constant.
I don't mean a forcible thing. Let him have some kind of unique deal he can make that maybe offers temporary buffs/boons to characters (relevant to who is doing the deal) and then have it backfire in someway afterwards. Maxwell has always been touted as a trickster, not unlike a con artist turned magician. He deceives people or takes advantage of them to get them to enter the portal. Incorporate that into his character in some way. Give Maxwell buffs for doing the "deals".
Or maybe just give him some kind of shadow form or something.
I wonder what the hell they're gonna do with Wilson. They aren't gonna give him a downside presumably because he's the starter character and only has net benefits, but I wonder if those will extend past the second season ie growing a beard for winter. Hopefully it's something more utilitarian, beard hair doesn't matter that much and neither does the insulation
They should push on his "Gentleman SCIENTIST" aspect more. Make him do more impossible "science" shit that borders on magic.
He doesn't like that though, he likes Winona's basic b***h generator but thinks the one with gems is unscientific. He's a nonce.
>Nonce
Kek mate im pretty sure that's not the right word here..
Yes. He's just daft. I shitposted too much and the word got stuck, frick.
His brain can only come up with puns and dad jokes.
I'd say more like ass backwards science projects that either work for a little while (pulling in a creature from somewhere else in the Constant as a summon?) or maybe shitty health pots he can make or something. I agree with the scientist side of things, but Wilson was a failure and I think they should incorporate that
Some of his projects should be more bordering on completely insane and immoral I think. One of his cosmetics portray him as dr. Frankenstein and i think that really suits him.
>tfw when they got rid of Warbucks because he's a "colonizer"
literally rent free
He a pretty good laborer.
Can we talk about this please? What the frick was this?
Why were the chinks at Tencent so desperate?
Don't Starve is super popular in China and Russia.
>Don't Starve
>China and Russia
>popular
I wonder why…
What is this shit? Is this even legal?
They approached Klei to get licensed to make a chinese Don't Starve and they were told they were good to go.
Don't Starve Shipwrecked was made by CAPY games.
>Don't starve on mobile
>RPG progression
>Daily reward
>Gacha roll
Legal? It's an official mobile game, Tencent owns Klei and thus owns Don't Starve. Game is shit though, what you would expect from your average chinkshit mobile game.
>Canucks cucking out to the Chinese
this is Klei's founder, so yes, no surprise
>Canadian
Why are there so many chinks in Canada? Most importantly, why do they identify as Canadian?
Same with australia, countries filled with cucks and traitors as politicians will let themselves get invaded by CCP drones, this is why they had such repressive and useless lockdowns and policies like in china.
>only a Maxwell or Wilson update is up next
This mod sort of sums up what I would want to find in a Maxwell rework:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2809332721
Is Wagstaff an antithesis to Wilson? A successful scientist and an unsuccessful one. How would their proper interactions play out? If he will be the main villain sooner or later, will it be Wilson who outperforms him?
As far as we know he wants to enter the Constant and bring some of the stuff there to the main world.
He is also responsible for creating the abomination that is WX-78, as well as making those radios that I think all of the human characters had before they got into the Constant, and out of which Maxwell was talking through to make a deal with Wilson.
For me, it's wurt (victorian)
Forlorn Doll Willow for me.
(...)
Wurt is also interesting in terms of lore, because she (And obviously all Merms) is connected to the almost extinct race of Goat-people, as such she sort of connects the Gorge arc to the ROT arc. Frick, what even happened at the end of the Gorge event, I forgot? How did we go from Gorge to Return of Them?
>How did we go from Gorge to Return of Them?
We didn't, they just scrapped the whole gateway arc. It's non-canon now.
That's so fricking stupid, man. They elaborated on why they didn't do any more events like this, which was the difficulty and inefficiency of holding those specific servers, since it wasn't paying off financially. Could have at least concluded it somehow..
https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/142281-did-the-community-forget-about-the-gateway-arc/
Since being a Merm means being cursed by the Gnaw, that means that when the curse disappears all the of the wild Merms are gonna turn back into Hogs and Goat people.
wurt (victorian) a cute
I'm playing the original with realm of giants and while it's fun the survival elements are starting to feel like a touch of a slog now that I'm trying to explore the second level of the caves. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong with my prep though.
It might be because materials for some important gear can only be collected in Winter and their drop rate is pretty low
I haven't played the original singleplayer game, but what do you think about DST singleplayer being easier, is that true in comparison to the original game?
I've played the original game, but not DST so I can't answer that
DST singleplayer unmodded is harder than the original just because monster dmg and health has been scaled up so insanely high vs the original game since it's balanced around multiplayer, when playing alone you are pretty much forced to only play the OP characters (Wolfgang/Wanda/Wendy etc) or play with mods to fix it.
Like you can play the game with other characters but 99% of the time you end up having to fall back on cheese strats to do anything which gets old fast.
Wurt is the most pointless character ever
Isn't she a bit better than Webber though?
Any Willow mains here btw?
Wurts tree hugger penalty is at least interesting and actually changes how you play the game since it takes every S and A tier crockpot dish bar dragonpie out of circulation so you learn to play with different things than you are used to, and it makes being nomadic harder since you are more reliant on farms.
The award for most pointless character definitely goes to Wanda as other anons have pointed out above.
This guy looks like a young Woodie. Isn't his "Lucy" axe a fire axe I game?
I always forget Wanda even exists and only remember when someone mentions her
It's pretty funny how the most broken OP character in the entire game is also arguably the most forgettable.
She just comes off like a shoddy workshop fan character to me personally. She just popped out of nowhere and for some reason has this weird obsession with time and clocks like a cartoon villain.
Honestly she's like somebody’s self-insert, doesn't fit the feel of the game at all IMO.
Real OGs Wilson, Maxwell and Wes >>>>>> rest
Last rework should include both Wilson and Maxwell
>B-But muh Wilson is for beginners
Ya have most characters unlocked in DST
Wilson is just a noob trap if anything since 90% of the other characters are objective upgrades over him.
>Klei reworks
>New bar for whatever reason
>New tab
>Character is overbuffed or absolutely nothing changes
Better waste resources and time on more ocean and lunar shit lol
I'd prefer more ocean content like Waterlogged over more shitty bosses that don't fit the theme of a survival game.
Every boss in this game is trash and NOBODY can convince me otherwise.
The discussion wasn't about bosses, but about short-time event like Forge and Gorge, that were scrapped in favor of Ocean/Moon stuff and character reworks.
Fair enough you didn't reply to any particular anon though so it was hard to pick that up.
Didnt play this game for years.
Which one should I play Dont starve or Dont starve together and what is the difference?
DS + SW and Hamlet
DST with the Automatic Health Adjust mod.
Forge and Gorge were both fun because they were hosted officially and there were tons of players. The mods suck since nobody truly plays on them. I wish they did a new event, but I think they completely abandoned them for good. They said it was because the servers were too expensive, but now that they have their ten cents, they should be able to do it again.
Hello. Is this game fun? The artstyle looks nice enough.
If it's your first time playing this game, you'd be better of starting with the singleplayer version. DST is more bloated with shit and adjusted for multiplayer so certain things are very unintuitive playing alone.
I've read that if you die that's it, so it's more like a roguelite rather than terraria or minecraft, as you can't keep your world and basically you go run after run?
In DS (singleplayer game) that's more accurate yeah, in DST (multiplayer game) there's way more leniency and you can save yourself in a multitude of ways, especially if you're playing with someone else.
Yes but there are ways to effectively get extra lives, so as long as you're cautious you can survive indefinitely once you get over that initial difficulty curve.
There is a "learning floor" where you basically need to have the wiki open 24/7 to figure out what the frick to do.
After you get over that it's a good time.
Okay, thanks for all the info!
I'd also recommend to think about buying DST, but adding mods from the Steam Workshop to make it more like the original singleplayer game.
For me, it was more fun when I was just figuring things out. The game is made to be uncompromising and mysterious in the first place, but when you literally don't know what is going on inside this parody of the wilderness it is much more magical.
DS goes too far in the direction of being obtuse with no guidance at all.
You can't seriously tell me someone can naturally figure out what to do in the archives without a guide.
>Pub
>Sweaties join
>Ruin rush
>All bosses rushed
aaaaand it's over
It's absolutely brutal and you will die a lot, even after hundreds of hours of experience the game will still throw bullshit at you that takes you by surprise if you're not careful.
They keep on updating the game and adding new content so it's cool, also women seem to love this game for some reason.
What's annoying however is how laggy it can get when playing with other people which is unacceptable for a multiplayer game. (you can still enjoy it solo though)
Fug, meant to quote
Is WX-78 a human soul in a robot, a robot with the memories of a human, or some weird human and robot conciousness mashed together. or is it something else?
a human consciousness transported into a robot body, then stripped of its human memories, iirc
The ghost of WX-78 looks like a robot in-game, so I would think that what Wagstaff transported inside the robot body was a "consciousness", or a "mind", and that WX-78's soul is his own and is a unique one, even though it was born from Wagstaff's transported consciousness.
I hope so, I'm a fan of WX-78 because of it being its anti-human tendencies and weird tenderness for a robot. if it turned out to just be a human, that feels like a rip off.
It definitely has its own mind and soul, so it will probably be like a Pinocchio story in the future. Maybe the same trope will be explored with the other "monster" characters..
Sexo with Wendy. And Abigail, but mostly Wendy.
There's a particular picture of the two hotdogging you that I've coomed to many times
Nonces
>Noice!
Yeah, we know.
So is this game and the original DS just a "how long can you survive" type game or are there actual goals to achieve to "beat" a run? I'm normally not into survival like games but this one has always looked appealing in some ways, I'm just not sure if I would enjoy it or not.
the original singleplayer game has Adventure Mode, which has an end. Together has end-game goals, but it's more like Minecraft's endgame, where you can practically beat it over and over.
Beyond there being a bunch of shit to explore and bosses to fight once you've settled into surviving, there's also an ending though the conditions to reach it are a bit weird.
>DS
Adventure mode
>DST
Kill bosses and that's it
I just cannot enjoy this game even in multiplayer.
fix the multiplayer lag
fix the combat
fix the farming
stop the items in your base from spontaneously catching fire during summer
add ranged weapons
there I fixed the game
How would you fix farming?
>t. wigfrid main
farming is fine
Wildfires are such bullshit, I play with them disabled in world gen now.
>lol just build your base in the oasis or get fricked
There was a mod on the workshop that made it so wildfires only target natural structures rather than literally having your ice box spontaneously combust but it doesn't work anymore.
I wish they implemented Warly's food variety mechanic to every character and then made it ten times worse just so metagays would be forced to break out of their habits for once
I haven't played in a year, what is the current meta?
I haven't played in half a year but I'm pretty sure it's still dragonpies and meaty stew
>tfw Wendy main
>disintegrates low tier mobs effortlessly
Feels good.
Gameplay-wise, which character has the best "minion"?
>Willow
(Bernie)
>Wendy
(Abigail)
>Webber
(Spiders)
>Maxwell
(Shadows)
Forgot about Wurt and the Merms here.
I wish there was a way to "shoo" the merms as wurt like how you can make spiders frick off as webber using the shoe box.
It's annoying taking like 30 merm guards to cuck a boss and then having them stick around you in your base for a day blocking everything.
Just kill a fish and they will leave.
< Any character (Tallbird pet, Pigs)
>build ice flingers
>don't go on long-ass expeditions during summer
>base is fine
Works on my machine
Depending on your world gen you often don't actually get enough gears to build ice-flingos before summer hits unless you rush the ruins.
>t. WX-78 main
>Just abandon literally everything for an entire season and go hide in a corner lmao
Yeah there are strats to deal with it but it doesn't change the fact that Wildfires are a shitty mechanic that is unfun to play against.
There is a reason the most popular base location is the oasis and it sure as hell ain't cause of the pond.
>Spend about ten hours trying to learn the game in solo DST as Maxwell because friends thought game was too hard after first two hour session together with three of us
>Tell them I think I figured out enough so that we wont be resetting every 15 or so minutes because one of them died
>Hadn't even looked at guides or videos, just reading tooltips and experimenting since they refused to try more than once
>"If a game is so hard that you are looking at guides to figure out the game when it has multiplayer scaling even when solo and you're doing fine then why bother?"
>Just wanted comfy Tim Burtonesque fun with friends who were too autistic not to die to the first hostile mob they find
What the frick is his problem?
he just wants ur torch bro
What the frick is his problem?
