doom eternal has a bunch of modern gaming problems like bad writing and wubstep and color schemes not taking readability into account but the core gameplay deserves the praise it gets

"lol you barely beat this guy? now fight two, no you don't get to save just do it"

"you just beat this boss? now beat two" is peak game design

the best part is the only way to win is to truly figure out what you're doing so fighting two at the same time feels like a natural step (i'm playing on ultra violence for the record)

        >color schemes not taking readability into account
that's wrong tho, DE is plenty readable, especially compared to D2016

        >no you don't get to save
You do get a checkpoint. Also D2016 did the same but it had actual proper bosses that you fight one and then two of.

        >UV
        why not Nightmare tho

not a good idea to play a game for the first time on the hardest difficulty

I played it on NM for the first time and it was beyond kino
            >died like 40 times in that one arena in Cultist Base before you enter the citadel proper
            >did it on my first try during replay
Amazing game and one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time.

when you don't even know if the game is good you shouldn't go for the hardest difficulty straight up. it's good though. i got filtered by UV when i first played, but it was on console, its a lot easier on pc even on nightmare

It's weird. I hate the story and the level design, but the core gameplay is pretty fun. It just feels like the game as a whole could be so much better than it is.

People still play the original doom games today. Noone is going to bother with doom eternal in 30 years.

People play OG Doom unmodded because of its historical provenance, not quality. People play it modded because it's relatively easy to mod and has a dedicated scene which pushes out incredible quality content for free.

I don't know how anyone can defend the writing in this game with a straight face.

        >Only 1 Schizo engulfed in rage and a thirst for a revenge can stop them all
It's Chud kino, you wouldn't get it.

It gets even better when the boss becomes a regular enemy later on. The Doom Hunter is really fun to fight due to the variety of options you have in dealing with him.

If I remember correctly it takes like two blood punches to get him change form and then just nuke him with the multi rocket launcher. In addition the shotgun grenade, if shot on his head, damages his health through his shield. The zombies and other canon fodder spawn infinitely both in the first fight and the next so you have infinite ammo, armor, blood punch recharges, and health. The way the combat system works the enemies on screen take priority for their attacks so stop looking at these guys and they suddenly become almost harmless, allowing you to farm supplies.

I'd rather fight these harmless fucks than play red light green light with marauders or play jump rope with the gladiator.

Marauders are fun because they're relatively squishy.

Micro missile rockets also damage him through shield but you can just shoot the sled directly, it is NOT shielded and will take damage normally.
      >it takes like two blood punches to get him change form
First boss DH has 3 times the health of normal enemy and second and third one have 2 the normal health. Plus your Blood Punch is at its weakest during those fights. Still works.

FPS for MMO addicts that think maximizing damage via rotations is good game design. Doom getting turned into a cooldown based FPS is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

there are 3 abilities that are on cooldown, everything else needs ammo
if you want a cooldown fps to hate you could look at ultrakill, i never see anyone complaining about about its cooldown weapons

One thing this game does extremely well is readability. You know what enemies are in the arena at any given time, you know how to fight them and in what order. How you fight the enemies is usually the problem (Fuck you possessing fucks), not the readability.
