Yes? I think that usually tends to be the consensus

Standing on the shoulders of giants. It had the benefit of starting with the very solid "Doom" foundation and built upon it to make a better game. Easy to understand.

Why do people keep including Master Levels when tiering the games/packs? It's literally just a bunch of shitty levels that ID scrounged off the net (probably by hitting random on the idgames archive a bunch of times and grabbing what came up, ) and shoved into a disc to scam people with. Even No Rest For The Level is more official than that.

I really don't think either campaign of Doom or Doom 2 are really worth discussing today. They're rather primitive, unexciting levels that don't really make most of the enemies and weapons on offer. People say that John Romero is like this visionary of level design, but like, hitscanners in hallways is what they had to make do with for the time, the levels aren't really all that great. I view Doom as more of an engine than an actual game.
Plutonia is the only classic, commercial Doom campaign I can really say still holds up, Play Doom 1/2's campaign just for the historical aspect of it, play TNT once for the hell of it, but if you're gonna go back to any of those campaigns play Plutonia's. Otherwise, enjoy the benefits of Doom being open source and enjoy the copious amounts of high quality level packs out there.
      For me, it's Going Down.

      What is TNT?

      Doom is timeless
Anyone with a PC can just download some shit and play Doom, there's no reason not to and therefore I think more zoomers have played it than you think. Even if it is GZDoom with mouselook and jumping.

I wish id software had the foresight back then to make a single DOOM.WAD with both games, just like they did with Ultimate Doom. Having to choose between doom 1 assets+musics and doom 2's weapons and enemies for map making sucks.

it's not a hard choice, honestly vanilla doom 2 is pretty mid but as a spark for creative WADs it's one of the best games ever. Doom 1 is still good but the things it's lacking really stand out.

Put Doom 1's textures and music into a pwad.

if doom 1 had the super shotgun i think i would prefer doom 1 over 2.

the super shotgun is one of the only things wrong with doom 2

Ok but why did Bethesda/ID suddenly give me Doom 3 BFG for free when I already own the vanilla version?
Not that I mind or anything, I just think it's a bit weird.

They cleaned up the store listings
Ultimate DOOM is now called DOOM (1993)
DOOM II now comes with Final Doom and The Master Levels instead of them being sold separately
DOOM 3 now comes with the BFG Edition

        I see
Also I noticed they did the same for Quake 2, lumping all DLC together with vanilla Q2
(Which I find odd because I still own the separate DLCs to this day, but oh well)

Based. The SSG and new demons were good. Though some of the DooM II maps are a slog to go through.
