Even before Origins came out Bioware said it would be the last traditional RPG they developed. The CRPG genre was already dead by that point and everyone understood that games would need to be developed for consoles first in order to be successful. Fortunately that's less true nowadays, but a AAA studio like Bioware legitimately can't go back to creating actual RPGs because they're structured and staffed to produce and a completely different genre now.

True, but I think a lot of the reason for its popularity was due to the fact that it was a more "crunchy" type of RPG system for consolegays. Compared to something like Baldur's Gate, Origins seems watered down but to a consolegay whose RPGs consisted of more lighter systems it was a breath of fresh air at the time.
Origins had meh mechanics but pretty good characters for the most part. Instead of taking what Origins did and building on it the way BG2 did with BG1, they just dumbed everything down and made the writing worse.

DAI had an actually decent overall system, they just needed to include shit like traps and stuff that the original had. If they just took DAIs combat and made it a bit deeper it would be completely fine.

It should at least be put out of it's misery, Dragon Age has gotten the worst type of bad releases a series can possibly get. They're profitable, they're closely tied to the lore of the good entr(y/ies), and they're big with people who like populating an "online fandom" with lots of engagements and content. This means that even in the unlikely event that either EA or Bioware or just the Dragon Age team get turned over to competent hands at some point in the future there is just zero fricking way to do a continuation of the series that ignores these entries and their contributions to the franchise and just turns things around and hits the ground running post-Origins. Money data analytics synergy whatever the frick dictates that if 2 and Inquisition made money they did that you can't just go axing the stories and design changes set up in those games. You also have an active and LOUD subset of the playerbase that likes ALL of the those post Origins additions and are notoriously aghast at the commonly held belief that Origins is the only good one. And then you have the fact that 2/Inq explicitly spelled out what happened or is happening to 95% of Origins plot points and characters, making following up on them with non-moronic writing impossible without doing a messy patch job of retconning or solving issues in their current writing through the story of a new game which leads the old bad writing canonical.

The article said it was rumoured to be released in 2023, but their report shows that it is indeed much further away. Jeff Grub in an article from February/March 2022 had said that the game wasn't scheduled to be ready before the following 18 months, which put it around Q4 2023, at the earliest. Which was the rumour. The game was simply never going to be ready in Q4 2023. It seems to be so far behind, though, that I'd expect a Q2 2024 release. Remember, as far as actual gameplay, Bioware said that on D4 day, which is Dragon Age 4 day, on December 4th, that they don't have anything to show yet, other than an ingame story "cutscene" which was a slide with narration from Varric's VA. Supposedly going to be in-game, but even that, they said, wasn't final. As well as everything else they had, which was even less final, that they couldn't even show it. And the cinematic was a very, very, very brief recap on Solas being the Dread Wolf, who needs to be stopped. And that's 4 years after Anthem's launch, with no other games being worked, in between.
Tortanic was what started killing DA but now Tortanic is the only thing left that even allows BW to keep existing and make more shitty DA

I did actually like the magic in FFXV though it was so annoying to grab the materials that I ended up just crafting them and then using them to nuke bosses. If the magic just charged when fighting enemies then it would've been better, it was both too strong and too scarce to use for even minibosses.

i just played origins for the 6th time and started DA2 for the second time ever. only ever played it since release month.
it's... not as bad as i remember. maybe i've just gotten less critical over the years as the outrage fuel has ran out as the years go by, but having a pretty good time. origins is still a way better game in every way possible, but i'm enjoying 2 way more than i thought, or remember.
Possible to play on modern PCs, are there any good mods?
My main issue is that it was clearly made to be played with a controller so it feels weird with PC controls (for combat). It's not terrible, but you can tell it would feel better with a controller. But the PC version of 2 doesn't support controllers.
Also not much mods besides minor things like graphics or whatever. Either no one cared to mod big balance changes or whatever or the engine just simply made it too difficult.
combat in DA2 is fun as heck, just over simplified. But the faster animations are very fun. If it had DA:Os artstyle instead of that weird borderlands style I wouldn't mind that game almost at all.
