The HBTC even existing is bad writing and ignoring it when possible is good. It's a cop out for when you write yourself into a corner because the villains outpaced the heroes in a situation where they don't have the time to slowly get strong. Zenkai boosts are also trash used for the same reason because they needed Vegeta to carry Gohan and Krillin but he was already established as pretty low on the ladder of Frieza's army in terms of power and again there was no time for him to gradually build up power. History of Trunks writing wise is completely fine standalone but is surrounded by a bunch of bullshit that shouldn't even exist.
I don't think Gohan ever gets a zenkai in the series, at least they never say he did. Maybe half saiyans can't get them.

he did during the Freeza fight, I think Vegeta mentions it. It probably would have been too bloated to talk about it right after the his hidden power got released. I also would make an argument that him getting tuned up by Cell could have helped him reach SS2. But that's just speculation.

I would argue with the Zenkai boost, but the dude fought the androids hundreds of times and survived. I really wish he would have made more rules for the Zenkai. Cause for all intents and purposes, F Gohan should have gotten it.

Gameplay will more or less be what you expect from other games in this genre. All it has to do is play good enough. It pretty much has to have the same if not improved roster as 4, with no concern for balance just being accurate to Dragonball power levels and abilities along with local co-op or it won't even be able to compare to 2 and 3. I know this has an extremely low chance of happening because companies have all become greedy fucks so I guess I'll keep playing 2&3 for my dbz fix.
I hope I'm wrong Tenkaichi games have always been a love letterr to dbz. A huge part of the love and the fun was the roster of mostly detail accurate characters and being able to make your dream battles happen so if they fuck this up all they'll do is piss off fans of the old ones.
