DRAGON QUEST XI S

Why even DEFINITIVE version of the game has only 1 (ONE) combat track? In a 100 hours game. It's like they didn't see a problem.

I wasn't even aware they didn't bring it out in the west. Don't know why anyone would want to play a crappier version, especially now S fixed half the issues with the original like the lack of voice acting.

Just “beat” the game yesterday. Great-looking game but the music filtered me; usually couldn’t play for more than 1 hour straight because the listing to the same two tracks would get grating.
Is the payoff for finishing Act 3 worth it? I did enjoy the story

The music in any DQ game is pure garbage.
I remember needing to mod in the orchestral versions just to be able to stomach DQXI. It was still shit music with nothing but random random doots, but it was better than before.

I didn't even realize that old c**t had died. Fricking good, his music was ridiculously overrated, and from everything I understand about the guy, he was the reason why the PS4/PC version of DQXI was all bleeps and bloops.

I genuinely don't understand the hype behind Dragon Quest. It takes forever and a day for them to make one, and when it comes out, it's the most vanilla ice cream JRPG presentation of all time.

    >It's nostalgia comfort food

So was stuff like Mario and Zelda, and Nintendo has continually evolved the formula with those franchises, and they've never stopped being successful.

I started to respond to you, and then, the autists that I mentioned started crawling out of the woodwork, proving my point for me.

This is not really what I asked. Disagree on the FF "evolution" tho, other than graphics all it did was becoming an Ubisoft game.

        >the FF franchise is continually trying to evolve and grow
No. It keeps trying to reinvent the wheel instead of sticking to what worked and improve upon it. This is largely due to different directors with their own visions for the series working on it. And as we've seen lately that has led to the series being outsold by "AA" low budget games.

are you saying there are many games like deagin quest? the world the characters the artstyle the music the humor

IV has a chapter system where you play as each party member individually before they all join up for the last half of the game. V is built around catching monsters that join your party. It’s like a proto Pokémon in a way. IX is built around multiplayer on the DS.

Nobody really tried to be another Sugiyama, you're not going to get similar music to DQ in other games because every JP composer tries their best to be their own thing, same reason why you're not going to get anyone who does the same thing as Hiroki Kikuta, or Kenji Ito, even minor composers/producers like Satoshi Kadokura have their own "sound" you can't find anywhere else.
Some people might argue that early Uematsu is close but it's really not, Uematsu has always been on the classic prog rock side of things, Sugiyama was a classical composer through and through.

I don't get why FF gays are always so angry about DQ. Is there any reason for this?

      Anonymous

Because even if it falls flat on its face, the FF franchise is continually trying to evolve and grow, while DQ has been stuck in a 40-year rut, using "muh nostalgia" as an excuse, ignoring the fact that there's plenty of other franchise that rose up during that same time period which have had no problem changing with the times. They didn't even really start putting any effort into graphics until DQVIII, and much like Pokemon, they're allowed to get away with it because of autists who will defend it to their dying breath.

Spoiler: The Chancellor is a demon in disguise. He always is.

As a fan of FFX and older titles, I can confirm that I dislike modern FF because Squeenix won't stop trying to modernize it and shitting all over it by bringing hack developers and writers.
      FF11 and 14? MMOs.
FF13? Hallways with a terrible MC and forgettable cast of characters.
FF15? Extremely homosexual adventure with such a lack of worldbuilding and lore that it had to rely on animes, mangas, LN and fricking movies in an attempt to become whole, and even after all that is STILL incomplete without DLCs that were cancelled like Aranea's and will never come to pass.
FF16 is the most boring slog ever.

Meanwhile, DQ fans get to enjoy all those comfy classic turn-based JRPG and I couldn't be any more jealous even if I tried.
I'll probably end up checking them out myself soon enough, as a matter of fact.

You might as well; DQ VIII & XI are a must play for any FF fan. XI felt like what I was looking for in FF after it had failed to deliver with XIII and XV.
Though with 7R I do think the franchise is “course correcting” a bit

I think the soundtrack in DQXI sucks. There being only one random battle theme is whatever, a lot of jrpgs do that so it's not really a point for or against the game. The real problem is the singular overworld theme. That one is so bad I'd be surprised to find someone who didn't swap over to the DQVIII overworld theme.
