>D&D Dragons are the most, unimaginative story element/trope in all of media, especially video games

Dragons are literally one of the only ideas universal to all cultures, literally go anywhere on the planet and youll find a culture with something that fills the role in mythology and cultural storytelling that we define as a "dragon", done in countless different, interesting, and unique ways.
D&D shit strips that away to one of the most boring ways of using such a varied universal concept in the human psyche, boiling it down in such a specific way that it completely strips creativity from the concept, and diverging from that defeats the purpose of using it as a base to build your idea of a "dragon" off of to begin with.

No? Dragons as we know them came from Asia originally. Ancient Norse beliefs were more about snakes, and Native American beliefs about birds. Neither of them had what we know as a "dragon" in their mythology.
Thats because youre looking at the idea of a dragon like its a specific kind of animal, when in storytelling the idea of a "dragon" is a much more conceptual to what the role of dragons and similar figures in mythologies and stories found around the World. Things youre saying are more a "snake" or "bird" still accomplish the role of what we call a dragon, even if its not the same as a prototypical modern-interpretation European dragon, and also like the term Dragon comes from greek and refers to a wyrm or snake-like dragon to begin with, not a weird scaly lion with the head of a reptile with bat wings. If your definition of dragon is strictly the latter you are part of the reason OP has a take opinion like that

But european and asian dragons have completely opposite symbolic. The only thing they have in common is being flying snakes.
And even then that's just two cultures, dragons aren't universal at all.
If you're trying to imply that fight is in any way a filter, I don't know what to tell you. The problem is that it's way too easy for what should be an epic fight. It's just a long QTE, essentially.
