>Arisen fetch me a paper from the Caste / Mines / Dungeon
>Arisen escort me to my brother / friend / dungeon / house

WTF is this? Why are almost ALL of the side quests bullshit filler? Half of these "quests" don't even have combat. They're just boring ass stealth segments, escort quests, or literal fetch quests.
The quests here are actually WORSE than the ones in one

        >>6 Skills per a class (aside from warrior)
Mods have already fixed this but it's the combat that's worse for me. I'm still at the start basically since it's crashed a lot but it just doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the first game does. I've played fighter, archer, and mage so far.

          Anonymous

They changed some of the base mechanics, which is why combat feels different.
Perfect Blocking for example does nowhere near as much poise damage as it did in 1, so, now it just feels like a block with a fancy animation.
Climbing is a lot less satisfying because the big monsters are a lot less resistant when you're climbing them. In 1, they were constantly shaking around, trying to grab you, trying to hit you, or smash you. In 2, they let you sit on their head and wail on them for like 30 seconds before trying to pull you off of them.
Boss Fights are a lot easier because boss enemies have way less health and their damage thresholds are too low, so even a level 7-8 Arisen can tear through an Orge or Cyclops in 1-2 minutes.
The FOV is way too close to the player, which makes it hard to see the enemies surrounding you or behind you. I have no idea why they changed it because it was perfect in 1.
Movement is also way jankier. It feels like you're on ice and gliding everywhere, which makes it awkward to do precision based moves, even for basic shit like gathering herbs.

            Anonymous

It's sluggish to move around, there are waaay more animation locks, animations are slower, visual and sound effects are just plain worse, I'm going to guess they removed hitstop and staggers and stuff since fighter just straight up feels bad, archer is just terrible now because you don't have to aim and if you do aim it's clunky and slow compared to the first game(which did archery amazingly well).
Also archer shots sound like the sfx I have set to take screenshots so I hate it with intense prejudice lol.

I seriously think the combat is terrible so far, it got kind of good when I was fighting bigger monsters but then the game being easy made that feel like a flop too.

THIS is my biggest beef with the game that nobody is talking about. Compare how the ogres move in this game compared to in DD1.
In DD1, Ogres moved like literal gorillas, always pounding on the ground and charging all over the place. In DD2, you smack an ogre on the head a few times and the fricker literally just lies down to get stabbed for several seconds.
WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO THE AI???

I would say that it's odd that they doubled down on the escort quests when people mocked them in dd1. But doing the opposite of what fans wanted seems to have been the entire design philosophy behind this game.

The gameplay mechanics were the same in the base game. DDDA is also a 2 gen old game at this point, so...

            >No, it doesn't
It does. It was a shit gimmick and I never understood why people liked it. DD2 fighter is much better than it. The brap vocation is a total waste of a slot in DD2 though, and Mystic Spearhand isn't much better

Most of the difficulty/variety complaints seem to be from people comparing it to DA

An expansion won't fix the endgame, the endings, the lack of skills or the monster diversity, it'll be Dark Arisen 2

What does this even mean? A lot of that was fixed/addressed for the base game with DA.

            >You're also comparing base DD2 with Dark Arisen which is silly
No, it's not. Dark Arisen is part of the first game and was released in 2013. 11 years ago.

It's still silly. Think about how Capcom handles monster hunter. Compare base game to base game.

      >fast travel is only necessary when it's a bad open world t.itsuno
Do you think he gets it now? Do you think Itsuno understood why other games have fast travel to skip the open world? Did he finally find out budget isn't endless and you can't make a giant world with variety because real projects don't pan out like that?

When is this fricking open world meme going to end? It added nothing to 1, and making it bigger in 2 was one of its main detractions. Imagine how much more they could have gotten done if they weren't fighting REngine which wasn't made for open world.

Between ferry stones and ox carts, fast travel exists and isn't very cumbersome at all. The "bigger" world isn't an issue because they thrust port crystals on you and there are shortcuts you can find

          Anonymous

It is an issue because they couldn't fill it and it's all time/budget spent on it. It adds nothing to the game that large instanced areas wouldn't already add. After 30 hours of fighting goblins and wolves, it really gets old.

Removing per-weapon skills and having one weapon per vocation was a huge fricking mistake. All the vocations fell worse to play because of this. I'm just hoping that Warfarer manages to capture some of that magic once I unlock it.

Also, there's no more layered armor. Wtf, Capcom?

      Anonymous

Ranger feel like shit cause all that explosive arrow shit make them develop 4 waste of skills to be able to use ammo

      Anonymous

sad to say bud, warfarer is absolute dogshit. The weapon swapping is a skill so you have to lose out on a skill slot even to use the class. Then in addition you have to carry and equip all the weapons for the classes that you want to use. also the weapon swapping is a spell that uses stamina and takes maybe half a second to complete and you can get hitstunned out of it. Then also also, the weapon swapping is just a linear rotation so you're really only able to use 2 total weapons because trying to add a third weapon in means you'll have to cast the spell twice to get to your previous weapon.
The only use I can see for it is for when you reach max level and want to wear whatever gear you want with your class.
They really dropped the ball hard with vocations this time and it sucks

        Anonymous

Can you equip 3 bows and have 9 skills?

Yeah what does R1 do if its not swap? I expected it to work like Dante and go to the next one.

Well frick. In my mind, I pictured the weapon swap being bound to RB, as in you lose the special vocation gimmick in favor of versatility, not losing an entire skill slot.

theres no separate skills between each weapon set. You still retain your 4 skill slots except now 1 of them is permanently locked as the weapon swap skill. That's it. That's the whole fricking class.
-1 skillslot and having to carry and equip multiple gear sets to use skills from other classes. Its absolute dogshit

            Anonymous

So what are the 3 other skills? Just shit you pick from the other vocations? Meaning you could have a bow skill but all your other skills are useless if you don't have the specific weapon active?

              Anonymous

            Anonymous

            >carry and equip multiple gear sets
You can equip every weapon, but it only takes the heaviest for the weight. Ontop of being able to equip every piece of gear in the game, you can effectively play a mage in heavy armour by not taking the weapon swap. I use Wayfarer just so my warrior has access to a bow, and mage's levitate. The rest of the skills are 4 warrior ones. And I get to fashion to my hearts content.

            Anonymous

Damn it don't tell me it's a one-way cycle. I kind of expected losing a skill but I wanted to swap mostly between class 1 and 2 with mage as the 3rd for the occasional heal/buff.

Wait for Dark Arisen 2. Honestly though, I was a HUGE fan of the first game (cycled through it at least 100 times) & performance issues/improved immersion aside, I can’t help but feel kinda underwhelmed if, after 12 years, THIS is all we get. Smaller & less challenging enemy variety, even more fetch and escort quests, more tedium for the sake of a living, breathing, open world. I don’t think it’s a bad game, but I was personally hoping it’d lean more in the direction of the fanciful stuff they missed out on including in the first game & not just more of the same.

DD2 is a good base game as well, just not great. It was DA that made DD great, and a DLC could make it great as well.

DD1 was marginally better as a base than DD2, but hopefully DD2 will get way more DLC than just a single expansion.

You are going to tell me directly in what exactly DD1 was better than DD2 base game.
The only thing I think I'd agree is true ending, the seneschal stuff was better than this literal cinematic finish, but it really wasn't much different in that regard.

                Faster Warrior

You could go to one NPC for item management, skills, vocation changing, and resting, meanwhile in 2, you have to go to 2-3 NPCs for these effects
The ability to sell shit from your storage at shops.
The ability to zoom in on your character when in the equipment or shop screen

Hilarious. I said, it was a fighter that could hit a ball to shot out projectiles. You are not proving me wrong by telling me it had a riposite, something the fighter also had, just that the mystic knight ones had elemental properties to it, nothing else special about it.

The first game's locks were much shorter and there wasn't as much input delay. IE swing your sword on fighter then jump and compare the same in DD1. Compare the distance moved too.

That's very wrong. First of all, every yellow got instant reset. But that's not even what that anon is talking about. Lots of animations could be cancelled out of even without instant reset.

Need some hints for the magistrate quest, where you have to find a refuge with tomes. I'm not sure what to make of it. If it's in the city, it means he can help me like the knight said, but it sounds moronic for the refuge to be within the city walls. But I've explored outside the city walls for a while now, and I haven't seen any hint of such a place so far. Unless it's east of the city, which I haven't really explored yet.

I made my Arisen and Pawn on the demo character creator then bought the game. In two hours i made it to the capital and refunded it. I actually had more frame drops on the first town than the capital but my main gripes for the refund were the way its controlled, pawns being 10 times more insufferable than the first one and realizing i could only have 4 active skills. Ill just put this on the back of mind and wait for the expansion which i assume will turn the game around like Sunbreak did for Rise.

The true ending actually pisses me off. >At this point I'm starting to believe Dragon's Dogma as a setting doesn't really work as a franchise
It has potential. You could do something like Devilman or the Eternal Champion, where each game is a "cycle" i.e. new world, with a new arisen, tasked to face the dragon.

Ok, you've played the first game and you can only play the first game because your shitbox can't run DD2.

It feels like very late in development they completely nerfed everything in the game. Made enemy AI completely fricking moronic that lets you climb on them for minutes at a time while they're helpless, reduced stamina consumption for skills so you can do moronic shit like endless Spearhand/Thief invincibility without even needing to spam consumables, the damage thresholds seem way lower so that by the time you're only level 10 you're melting most enemies you come across. I mean I know that there's a lot of shitposters but from the way some people have talked about it there's some stuff which seems like a downgrade from the first game. That's a shame if so.
But as I said, so far I'm enjoying myself - it's more of the gameplay that I liked from the first. Maybe that changes later I dunno.

there's changes people don't like, vocations for example. These aren't downgrades. Anyone who's not got a shitbox and can actually play the game decently, won't convince me that the quests/NPCs and just general finished nature of the game relative to the first one isn't a marked improvement. The pawns are also way better as well, everything from dialogue to just their general usefulness.

Anyone who actually played Dragons Dogma (not DDDA), knows how much that game goes to shit literally half way through when you start retrecking to the SAME locations for different MAIN quests. That's because the first game was legit unfinished.

I disagree heavily that this is the case. The "major" NPCs have about as much unique content as the majors in 1, but there are basically 0 lesser NPCs with interesting subplots or quests which was not the case in 1.
Vermund is quest dense and it feels good while you're doing all that shit and then you get to Battahl and it has like 1/4th of the fricking content and no longer has the "Oh cool, new enemies on the roads" discovery period to make it engaging

My PC runs it well enough. I'm not mad at the performance. I loved Dragons Dogma 1. Played it on 360 on release and again on PS3 with dark arisen and again on PC.
I didn't follow any updates up the sequel and went in blind.
I am extremely disappointed with the fact they removed bosses while adding barely any new bosses and even less regular enemies. The game also does generally feel worse to me. I remember ranger feeling great In the original and now archer feels .. okay? Definitely not as good. I haven't tried other vocations yet.
The huge map only makes the lack of enemy variety feel worse. I have killed countless griffins and cyclops and ogres in the original and so far that is all I have found aside from a lesser dragon and a couple minotaurs which were easy as frick to kill.

It's REngine animation bullshit, In 1 they were all artist-driven from the ground up, while in 2 they use fancy physics interpolations and other techniques.

Faster to animate, easier to do shit like a cyclops bashing his face into an arbitrarily angled surface without clipping through it. On the other hand, not being fully artist-authored means they lose that snappiness and stylization.

It is definitely more DD. That's kind of the issue - it's not BETTER DD, it's just more of it. And the main thing there's more of is overworld, so sometimes you get the impression that you're actually playing a worse, downgraded game, just with more walking.

It's still fine, I'm really enjoying the combat, but I can help but feel like you could port DD1's enemies and combat into this game and it would have been a better game.

        That's fair.
I mean, I'd rate DDDA as one of my favourite games though I only went into it a few years after it released, and I never expected it to get a sequel. It became my bar for what I wanted from an action RPG and with nothing really meeting that standard I guess I'm just glad that I have more, 'fresh' dragons dogma to play (even if you could definitely question how much fresher it is, seeing as how much of a redo rather than a sequel it appears).
Some of the changes suck to be sure. But I guess probably that my standards are just low, because having a new game where I can make my own custom dude and their custom pal and go on fighty adventures in a roughly generic fantasy setting is making me feel good.

    Terrible art style
    Muddy and ugly graphics
    Shitty looking particle effects
    Frequent crashes(is it just me?)
NPC pop-in is extremely bad and I'm someone who never noticed this back in the day
God awful performance regardless of graphical settings, even with 100+ fps the game feels like it's stuttering or something

Random pawn high fives interupting your looting are annoying and no this isn't a charming feature especially after 50 times
Enemies can stagger lock you even if they attack slowly
You die falling from 20 feet while you would do a cool roll in DD1
Combat is floaty and unresponsive and full of animation locks that would make RDR2 blush
    Enemy AI is a joke
The treasures I've found so far are extremely boring, DD1 seems like it had more unique items
    Archery is inferior to DD1's
Difficulty is lower than DD1's normal mode
Many enemy visual tells are useless, goblins will leap 30 feet in a second
Pawn dialogue is terrible and extremely repetitive(much worse than DD1)
Music, sound effects, and voice acting is all generic at best, some of the sfx are actually unfinished tier

The game is more like Black Desert Online than Dragon's Dogma but it looks and sounds worse than that game did. So far(I haven't completed the game) I'd say it even plays worse but maybe it will pick up later? Does not seem likely. I regret buying it, I could tell it wasn't great but I was bored and thought it would entertain me. It would, if it weren't for all the crashes(why I'm here shitposting right now).
