I'm modding me a non-motion sickness non-claustrophobia inducing gameplay by increasing fov and removing the moronic vignette, it's like a whole new game (good).

No. They're permanent items and you can place 10 in the map. So you only ever need 10. It seems there are only some quests that reward them tho, they're harder to get than the first game. But we have the oxcarts, I guess.

Game is surprisingly short, as in, I did most (though not all and I failed some) quests and got the "true" ending in about 44 hours of playtime.

The game is definitely GOTY for me this year since it's pretty much just this game and ER DLC that I have any interest in at all this year but at the same fricking time this game feels like it got monkeypawed
      >Really solid combat and movement, improved it pretty much every way from the original but there is less variety in the amount of actions each vocation can learn, to the point where Warfarer feels like how this game was meant to be played from the start thanks to the extreme levels of versitality it gives in combat and in gear combos
      >Gear system feels about as tacked on as it did in DD1 but it is slightly better balanced, almost all gear pieces in the game are just stat sticks/clothes with a few outliers anyway
      >Quest system is honestly superb but it seems a bit glitchy at times and the quests themselves are rarely intresting
      >Story is a complete shitshow that is only saved by the fact that the npcs themselves has a few memorable lines and interactions, one of the few things that DD1 somehow manage to do better
      >Difficulty scaling is all over the place, if you rush to Battahl and Volcanic island you'll get shat on by everything with a pulse but as soon as you reach level 20-30 with decent gear (depending on vocation) you might aswell just be immortal until you reach endgame
      >AI is memed on but it is honestly more advanced than your average ubislop clone games (which is 99% of the market) although it is very inconsistent, pawn AI is pretty good, monster AI is honestly impressive in combat (although it's tuned down a bit from the first game since most large monsters just allows you to climb all over them for way too long) but friendly NPC AI is seemingly nonexistant at times
      >You already know about perf

Itsuno got shafted with the budget again I guess, so close yet the game falls short right at the end IMO

        44 hours.
I mean you must just rushed.
Im 49, not even done any main quest but got to the city.
You must not explored, combat, levelled sll vocstions, fast traveled loads and even done side quests etc

GOTY or GB relink so far, both great games.
The next updates they announced will sort all issues I have with the gsme. Just want stable 30fps and turn off raytracing

          Anonymous

          >I mean you must just rushed
No, I had explored the entire map, unlocked all vocations and completed (or failed) every quest with an obvious questgiver along with a few hidden ones (like the Elf guide quest) by the end of the story. Did I find every dungeon/chest and quest? No, obviously not, but by the time I reached lvl 45ish I felt OP in comparison with everything else so I just pushed the story forward.

Once you reach Battahl, your about 2/3rds through the story and as soon as you reach the "gimme 15 wyrmlife crystals" your about 3ish quests away from reaching endgame where the entire world gets God Hand'ed and turns into hell.

At that point you have the option to evacuate every major city/town in the game by doing some extremely basic quests or you can just run straight to the glowing red dots on the map and end the game once you've cleared all of them or if you just ignore them for a few ingame days it seems like the game just says "Be a little b***h then, I'll just delete this part of the map as punishment!" and then it spawns one final red dot on the map that ends the game the moment you activate it. IDK if the final red dot also has a timelimit before it just nukes the entire map but my guess is that it doesn't have a timelimit and just allows you to run around the map that is now completely filled with strong monsters and drakes. Pretty much every quest that is even tangentially related to the main story also gets deleted from the game the moment you reach endgame, IDK if there are any engame specific quests though since I didn't find any but I doubt it since the game reaaaally wants to rush you to the end at that point.

The ending just fricking sucks and ruined my entire view of the story. Up until you reach it you might think "this isn't so bad" but god damn, whatever hack writer worked on the game fricks up big time with the ending.

Ending spoilers, don't read if you want to avoid it and if you do read it, be prepeared to be very disappointed

Your pawn turns into a not-dragon and becomes more selfaware, it then goes bonkers and snatches you up so that it can take you up to the bossfight. The ending boss (it's hard to even call it that) is literally just a loredump on what the "Dragons Dogma" is and why it was created, that is narrated by The Observer while you climb around on giga not-Grigori's back mid-flight. The fight ends when you've been crawling around for a while doing frickall, you are then thrown off the giga dragon, pawn breaks open giga-dragons chest and then you plunge the mcguffin sword into its heart, "breaking" the cycle and killing the dragon permanently. You are then shown a short epilouge of what every character you meet in the story is doing after you broke the "cycle" and deleted yourself and your pawn from existance, it ends by showing the old geezer in the fishing village sailing towards the sunset before the game fades to black and rolls credits.

The ending was so bad that I felt bad about even liking the game in the first place. The game is GOOD as a game but completely fails as a story, both because the story is so extremely disjointed and told in such a nonchalant way that you have no fricking clue whats going on until the credits roll, then you start piecing everything togheter in your own head and realize that it is entierly made up of random events that barely relate to one another and that has 0 characater development for ANY character along the way to justify bringing so many smaller pieces into a larger whole.

The most hilarious part about the ending is the idea that the writer or Itsuno thought I gave a single iota of a frick about needing to see that random old homosexual

The ending is lack luster and it kinda screams we ran out of money again with Kaiju Grigori being a cutscene battle

But it's a treat for DD1 fans who understood the lore cause it's basically a prequel that further explains the Pawns, Will and the Godsbane origins. The cycle in DD2 is shitty and subpar because the Great Will designed the first Dragon's Dogma from scratch and set it to run on autopilot, it's only later that your character took this experience (and the godsbane) to start the Sensechal cycle with more knowledge.
The ending could have used a more explicit cutscene explaining the fate of your MC & pawn though, but I suspect they are saving it for an expansion.

The old guy is an Arisen who failed the unmoored world (you'll end up like him if you die without wakestones too), he has a lot of lore notes if you managed to find him in the unmoored world and do his quest.

Nah, that's probably just asset reuse but they can always use the muh cycle excuse and the GW is a particular moronic Sensechal that fricked off from his charge but it seems unlikely given the loredump on witnessing countless worlds and not doing anything.

How? If anything what we saw showed that the cycle in 2 is literally better than 1 because the Watcher doesn't run out of muh soul heat to power the world

                Anonymous

The cycle is shitty because the Arisen only gets to rule the world for his normal lifespan before he dies and the Dragon respawns to terrorise the soul so it's only like a hundred year tops.

The observer is just an Uber pawn tasked by the GW to keep retarted Arisens from killing themselves and stay on track to kill the Dragon. She got corrupted so bad by her purpose that she was the one to mindwipe you (potentially) or send you back in times for your NG+ until you break the cycle.
Then she turns you to the dementia old man if you fail the unmoored world.

At least with DD1 cycle, peace last until the Seneschal runs out of soul heat which could be ages.

I thought so too but NG+ changes FRICKALL about anything in the game outside of just being a bog standard "play new game with old character" thing. The only thing that it actually changes is that you can now buy the 2nd best gear for almost every vocation at most gear vendors, it gives you the option to KYS with the mcguffin sword at any time and it gives the dragonforger geezer the abillity to sell the best gear for each vocation and:
                >Put a 24h ingame time buff on the player that gives them increased EXP gain, rank gain, Stamina regen and some other buff I can't even remember
                >"Upgrade" a single vocation skill so that it costs half stamina to use but you can only have a single "Upgraded" abillity at a time
                >"Upgrade" a single vocation so that you gain double stats on lvlup while playing as it, same rule as above
                >"Downgrade" any gear so that you can put new upgrades on it at different vendors

I've not reached engame again yet but I would be very surprised if they did a Nier and lock new content behind a 2nd playthrough without showing some very obvious differences early on

I mean yeah, definitely disappointing. Especially feels like a fakeout because they fricking title-drop DRAGONS DOGMA II after beating Not-Grigori which kinda implies "oh yeah, here's the real game btw lol what you just played was a reimagining of the first game" and then it just ends.
Ah well there's always Dark Arisen 2, no doubt being worked on this very minute.

DA2 better be in production as we speak. They still won't change the shitty ass ending with it though unless they put it entirely in the endgame world. The ending unironically retroactively ruins my entire experience of the game. I even tried rushing into endgame once I noticed that I kept the sword in NG+ but the tower is blocked off until you get the gigantus to attack so I can't even force my way back into endgame just so that I can at least have fun with the combat not being ruined by my OP as frick character.

Not gonna read the spoilers but im curious why you rshed it, like why didn't you explore etc.
Each to their own of course but a game like this is an adventure, its a deep rpg with so few handholding, but ultimately its a mske your own adventure.
Like any game the first experience playing is always the best, so why did you not prolong it and savour the experience.

Relative exsmple, I played TotK last yesr but only had 2 weeks before SF6 released which i wanted to play with my IRL friends, so i rushed it and ultimately ruined the 1st experience for myself.
In comparison I played BotW for 1 1/2 months 1st time.
That is NEET time 10-12 hours per day too!
I got no new game im gonna play for a while, may maybe so I am in no rush moving forward with this game.
Though im like level 37 now so year shit is a lot easier now.
            Hope NG+ scsling evens out.

Grigori shows up like 3 times throughout the entire storyline. Honestly the story of DD2 is somehow worse than DD1. I regret buying the game and putting 30 hours into it.

This game's story blows DD1's out of the water, frick are you talking about? I love DD1 but with a couple exceptions the main quest is just running errands for the duke until Grigori intervenes. The Salvation subplot is cool but is barely the focus. DD2 has far more interesting political intrigue, characters are more memorable, pacing is way better. Sorry to hear you got filtered by the true ending, btw. It's absolutely kino.

        >quests themselves are rarely intresting

          Anonymous

Yes, the systematic details of how the quests works, as in, every single one of them has a fail/win state and most of them even have either multiple ways of completing them or have halfwin states depending on what you do. That doesn't change the fact that 80% of them are literal fetch quests that rarely asks players to go out of their way to do ANYTHING special

            Anonymous

            >and most of them even have either multiple ways of completing them

If they're anything like DD1, you can move them around and you can obtain multiple per playthrough.

In DD;DA they persisted through NG+.
So any you placed, will remain in that location on the new go around and all the static crystals you loot through the game are respawned.

We know there will be the OP weapons at end game but other than those gear is all optional. Which is good. So no B line to what you want, never bother with anything else like eldern ring for example.

NG+ players do you get to remake your character's appearance? I heard you can't change your gender with the metamorphosis item. Also surprising how quickly the main quest kind of ends, I feel like I JUST got to battahl and now the hologram dude is telling me this is the end of my adventure. Even walking around in the city trying to find quests I didn't get too many, maybe like 5 were very inconsequential.

      Anonymous

yes, you can choose to make a different character in NG+ or keep your current appearance.

There is some post-game even after your next quest but yeah, the second half did feel very short.
Yes you can completely remake/edit your pawn as if making an entirely new one at the beginning of NG+.

Why did they make the movement animation based like Rockstar games?
This is a action game game, I shouldn't have to wait seconds for my character to turn around, I shouldn't have to fight the controls to properly control the arisen, and there shouldn't be a huge deadzone on the analog stick.
At first I assumed DD1 was also like this, since it's been over a decade since I last played it and I couldn't remember. But after watching a video I could clearly tell that the first game didn't have this issue. This is shit worse than the jump from DaS1 to DaS2

      what? it doesnt at all

      what? it doesnt at all

Run forwards then move you stick slightly to the left, your character will have no reaction and continue straight. You need to move your stick a considerable amount for the game to actually acknowledge your input. (deadzone issue)
Also, try doing a 180º turn, instead of just facing to the other side immediately and following you movement inputs, the character has an actual turn-rate that makes it feel clunky.(I called this "animation based", but I'm not sure if this is exactly that.)

Being precise with your movements is hard because the character doesn't fully follow the analog and it feels like there is some delay

Because you are a moron you dont understand that the journey is more important than the destination, where the adventure is, and having free fast travel ruins that. Giving the player infinite free fast travel turns a game into a back n forth checklist quest hand in gor retarss like you who cannot contain themselves.
Look at morrowind and oblivion,/skyrim casualization as example.

Look, homosexual. I was in a rush and really didn't consider putting on the armor to blend in, like the thought didn't even cross my mind, but in my defense, I hate forced stealth segments in games.

The game is known for having multiple solutions to one quest, so I decided to kill 12 guards who chased me, and then when I went back to the castle? No more guards in the main areas, so I could explore freely. Frick it. You solved it with brains, I solved it with brawns, and both solutions yielded the same result. We both cleared the quest in our own way.

I put the outfit on and some guards immediately walked in and chased me. I ran away and they didn't follow me and was able to complete the quest. I just avoided the ones around the ballroom and hallway to the royal chambers. I also had to backtrack and carry out an NPC that was part of a separate escort quest because he got stuck but he didn't aggro them.

A lot of games main story doesn't bring you to side quest areas in the process, usually you have to go off the beaten path and do those in separate areas, and they're completely optional and skippable. I'm just surprised that the MS brings you to a bunch of side quests areas as well. If I had known that I'd have just accepted all the side quests, advanced the MS and then just killed like seven birds with one stone.

I specifically remember my first one because of how my pawn lost her shit when I found it, thinking it was pretty common in the first one. Just had to haul ass to Melve and teleport back so not knowing the timer was the only pressure. Hell most people would've picked one up in the northern region, if you're desperate you could just pull up a map of all the tokens around there.

This whole parent shit though? Especially when there's a specific questline about child abandonment? You're telling me that the answer is to get a pawn that has the word Sphinx in it and the word Father/Mother/Parent with no spaces in between? From a riftstone all the way at Harve? Get the frick out of here, straight bullshit. I refuse to believe anyone figured this out by themselves.

Ohhhh that quest/guy, I wasn't aware people can die during that quest, seemed simple enough to me. You find a cyclops with him, right? I guess it's possible he can die in that fight, but I didn't find it difficult.

Go back to Melve and if you see a dragon with a bunch of pimples, fight it off and make sure you talk to the guy using the spearhand vocation

The old man with the sword? The one you meet at the inn? I forget his name but I spoke to him and helped him fight the dragon thingy. He just said "Maybe you can inherit my skill, or perhaps that's for another time." And he didn't say anything else after that, figured it's a multi part quest, and I have to find him again somewhere else later on in the game?

No markers for quest objectives or enemies was the right choice. It's funny seeing all these hand holders lose their mind.

        >implying hand holders aren't catered to
I picked up some pawns that had no quest knowledge and they would repeat the same "hire a pawn that knows shit" line over and over. and when you do hire a pawn that knows, they'll lead you right to it. doesn't apply to every quest but that's how I found Ulrika after she gets the boot from Melve, my main pawn just knew where she was from traveling with someone else.

They literally aren't learning how to abuse the pawn system. Most of them are ignoring what the pawns say. There are so many posts that sum up to, "I wasn't paying attention to whatever the pawns talk about." These people play RPGs going in thinking that quest markers will be there to show them where to go at all times, a log on the side of the screen saying "GO HERE AND TALK TO X AND DO Y". When a game doesn't do that and forces the player to use the in game system to problem solve, the masses get angry. They want to feel accomplished but not put in real effort outside of combat.

then you should like DD2 Warrior, though most moves do require a short charge. Think of the charge like Savage Lash vs Arc of Might, the moves are like Lash charge length. My Warrior isn't maxed out, but there's plenty of skills for more combo style

How to get high damage as Mystic Spearhand?
Defenses wise it seems pretty great with the Mirror ability, but I feel like I've just been spamming my normal X Attack besides the skill to close in the distance

      Anonymous

I spam that one move that summons projectiles while you do other things, then I'll combo the gap closer into the aerial downward stab. if it's a big enemy I'll try to do the stab in a way where I land on top of the monster, then I'll do the rapid light attack move on the head.

      >i remember the damage calculation for this being really fricky in DD1
the damage calculation is the simplest formula in history of gaming

      damage = strength - defense

        Anonymous

What? That's not how it works in either game.

              Anonymous

those are just modifiers you tard, the formula is basically strength - defense. If you have 100 strength and enemy has 100 defense the modifiers ain't gonna help you do more damage.

                Anonymous

Wait a minute, there's even more words above that formula you linked?

        Anonymous

        yes it is.

Thats not at all how it works, and also that doesnt even remotely answer my question of how mixed atk/magic sets function

in DD1 it was weird and made it would subtract it from both the def and magic def seperately, but it wouldnt take your magic atk into account, only the magic on the weapon

Pre-release I was worried that the furries and elves were going to be shoehorned in but turns out they were even more irrelevant and useless to the game's narrative than I could have even imagined to the point where you could delete Battahl as a separate nation from the game entirely and nothing would change because their empress has nothing to do with anything despite being featured on the key visual for the game like she fricking matters at all

It's completely broken. I'm a mage and I just hire 3 thiefs every single time. I can sit under whatever monster and spam high palladium and everything just melts as every single one of us takes 0 damage. They really should've at least had you take chip damage or something

Sounds like an incredibly boring way to play the game. You have fun just sitting and doing nothing? To each their own, but you're weird if you enjoy playing a game like that. I have more fun climbing monsters, doing damage and cool skills. Not casting a shield and sitting in one spot doing nothing.

Are support mages really so popular? I guess it'd be a good way to get other anons to hire your pawn if it's decked out with support spells, but it feels boring having a support in the party. I want BIG DICK DAMAGE, so I go FULL DAMAGE in my party. Thief, Warrior, Archer, and Sorcerer.

It's a shame only Arisen can be certain vocations, so you can't hire them in your party. It'd be so cool to have like a Magick Archer, Spearhand, and Trickster in the group, but you'd be so fricking broken that the game wouldn't be fun.

The game is still new, lots of people starting out so Mage Pawns will be in demand. I expect their demand at higher levels to drop off like in DD1 where carried curatives are more efficient

Carried curatives have no purpose in DD2 since they don't deal with max hp loss. Doubly so since mages don't even need to slot a healing spell, they all come with it naturally.

I also have like 3 more quests to do for the captain before I become king. Am I already almost done with the game?

This game hates it when you stray from the road, so most likely nothing

The griffin nest is up there, as well as a portcrystal.

The game does not do a good job of making use of verticality whatsoever, there's so much empty spaces in between branching hill roads. I know they're completely different teams but it feels like a misopportunity going from MH to this.
