DRAGON'S DOGMA 2 runs like shit because the game barely has any LOD culling

I feel like the "Advanced A.I." explanation they gave still makes more sense, because it chugs way more on cities where there are a lot of people around than anywhere else.
I can be in the middle of the open world seeing Griffins flying around and goblins all over the place and it all runs great.

If you substitute "advanced AI" for "we're too fricking moronic to properly code AI" then sure, you are probably right on the money. Nothing that happens in the cities creates the impression that there is some actual advanced AI shit going on.

Yes, that's why I put it in quotation marks. But that's the actual issue.

You don't need to draw object across half the playable area to figure out how it navigates the world in real time.

      Anonymous

or it could be that OP is right, and the cities are just extremely dense areas that also share resources with a vast area of open world loading altogether

        Anonymous

But in that case, the game should run like shit in every single area that would have the capital within that giant red circle, which is not the case.
The quality drastically improves the second you're like 30 steps out of the capital.

The OP pic is obviously bullshit if you think about it for 10 seconds lol

I bet their "advanced AI" checks pathing every frame on every surface inside that massive red circle rather than propagating.

After finishing the quest in Melve, i remeber going with the villagers as they moved out. I travelled with then for a while on the map and even with enemies around my fps reamined above 100.

        Anonymous

Probably because those guys are all going in a very straight forward pathing. Their objective is to go to Harve, that's it.
I guess they must do some real stupid shit coding in the capital in particular for what villager #40 does.

The obvious way to check this is to get Dragonsplague a bunch of times and kill everyone in the capital. See if it runs better then.

This tracks with people killing NPCs just to get more framerate. It could be that maybe it's running the same Pawn AI on all NPCs so it has to account for all sorts of behaviors and situations at all times instead of just wandering around and scattering when attacked, especially since Guards tend to actually fight back when monsters do show up.
But it could also be NPCs rendering in full detail ( which is a lot for humans ) at all times.

    I don't understand the problem.
If you're at "Maximum detail", it makes sense for it to be like that.
Harve Village isn't a great example because its' below everything else, but if you're in the capital, or to the East of the capital, you can definitely see the area of that entire circle.
That's the point of it being max quality. It's so that you can see everything.
If your PC isn't some 90000 dollar monstrosity, then don't go max quality.
What's wrong with modern PC gamers?

It's time consuming and nobody has the money and resources on hand like they do. Comparing Rockstar to any other developer is moronic. Over 2,000 people worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 and only 400 made Dragon's Dogma 2. Tears of the Kingdom has physics systems far individual objects and Link. Npcs, wildlife, the horse, do not have any kind of physics system attached to them. Also the random NPCs don't have radiant AI in Zelda like they do in Red Dead Redemption 2.
