      DD is fricking overrated shit.

The only thing that makes double dash somewhat interesting is the 2 character gimmick which ultimately doesnt really change anything, hell the bikes in mkwii were a bigger gamechanger than having to characters on a kart.
DS was the first game in the series that included Retro tracks which gives you 16 more tracks to race on. It had mission mode with some very cool boss fights. It also was the first Mariokart with online. And you had an emblem creator that would get put on the karts and was also visible online.

The extra items have also made their way into future mariokarts except the chain chomp which sucked ass. Oh wait I forgot those extremely memorable different weight classes that have little to no impact on the racing. Shit I agree with you DD is the best mariokart behind mkds, mkwii and mk8

That was Super Circuit, which let you unlock every track from SMK. DS was just the first in the series where they were able to pull from more than one game.

Mario Kart 8 tracks feel too samey, too many try to use zero g or flight gimmicks just for the sake of using the gimmicks

And to think the new DLC finally calmed the frick down besides major gliding places like Rock Rock Mountain, except the majority of them look like shit due to the polygon mapping being lifted from a mobile game.
I still prefer most of them over most of the original 48 courses from a gameplay perspective, but fricking christ the paw curls yet another finger.

As someone who grew up with DS, 8DX is the best Mario Kart by a long shot now. It did take a while but it's impossible to deny the value 96 tracks has. That doesn't mean DS is any less good though, DS will always be a game that I cherish more than anything.

I haven't played a mario kart since DS, it was very very good. You could share locally with someone who didnt own the game couldnt you?

MKDS is fun as FRICK and the local play function was goated.

    MKWii has the BEST gameplay/competitive.

MK8 has a frickload of tracks and looks pretty which is good. Great casual party game, too. Just a bit dull coming from older entries.

The karts in DS always felt real nice to handle, I don't know if it's just my boomer reflexes catching up with me but the newer entries feel much looser handling-wise to me

Really? I feel that started with the DS. Played Double Dash the other day and felt snappier and better than any recent entry. Even Super Circuit has better controls than anything post DS

You can just use the touch screen and have 360 degree -or however close the game actually allows- movement anyway, right? Wouldn't this just be remapping that input to the circle pad? Also, the original was more than playable.

Double Dash was really fun however I feel like it was always the worst one to play because you would get bombarded by the most items ever but that's just a personal opinion.

DS was the best one by a long shot. Controlled great and people discovered the snaking technique to add more of a competitive nature to the game AND having decent early online play for it's time.

Also was so cool you could create an Icon to use for online.

Mission mode was the CLOSEST thing to ever having an Adventure mode like Diddy Kong Racing (Why the series has YET to do this is still beyond me)

Something that I found really cool but they never did it again was the fact that you are not really picking the character, you are picking the Kart. When you play enough to unlock the characters to be in any Kart, I always loved the heavier characters like Bowser but their stats were always ass, so it was awesome when I could pick anyone I wanted with the karts that only Toad or Mario could use at first.

And then with each additional game after DS, Nintendo took away lots of the features the DS game had like the Icon creation for online or the Mission mode.

Snaking was also fun and pretty easy to do. It wasn't autismal shit like F-Zero GX's snaking or wavedashing in melee.
