    >Laugh scene.

I'm tired of this meme. FFX is by no means flawless, but they literally have a conversation about putting on a brave face and not becoming idle with despair directly before Tidus tries to cheer her up by being goofy and doing "the laugh". They even share fairly convincing actual laughter directly after. Media literacy really is dead.

No one who cites the laugh scene as a fault has actually played the game.

When FFX came out I really thought it was for a different audience, Tidus looking like a super japanese male idol host stuff, screenshots of the cinematics of the blitzball team being the most common. When I finally bought a PS2 and bought the game I was suprised at how bleak the story was, Nomura being Nomura I guess, and the take on religion. If you don't have Tidus being moronic sometimes and HAHAHA I don't think the colorful background and Wakka being silly would make up for it.

It would certainly be a different experience, and would most likely narrow it's appeal a bit. I personally don't mind dark, bleak stories, but FF has always worked best when it balances whatever themes it's going for with a sense of adventure and whimsy. And without a character like Tidus we would have no sense of adventure or discovery because all the other characters have inhabited this world all their lives and know about it's struggles and how it functions. It's all as new to him as it is to the player.

Yeah people who shit on tidus forget that the game's status quo is about a religious sacrificial deathmarch pilgrimage to appease a genocide monster that is established to just come back and frick your shit up again anyway even after the sacrifice. This shit would be just incredibly dreary and awful to think about if not for a character that is willing to joke around and subvert expectations, and accept the egg on his face when he flies against conventional wisdom to change things for the better from a new perspective.
But the laugh scene that was played off as being intentionally forced in the game to break that dreariness, gotta talk about that instead.

If you honestly think the laugh scene was bad then you might be legitimately moronic.

Best story in any FF game and it's not even a contest, you dick sucking homosexual OP.
Also has arguably the most badass boss themes in FF history too, and overall the best cast, they feel deeper than FF7's chars

Because they keep trying to make fantasy games. All of the famous FFs are actually sci-fi. You need gadgets, robots, and swords that shoot bullets. Not this super saiyan eikon mudhut bullshit.
