Sounds like we're getting the final form of eating things to sever them from the dungeon's influence. I wonder how much of an effect that might have on future demon manifestations. Will the next one be missing the human connection and wish-world ambitions?

Interesting point I hadn't really considered, of Lion being sensitive to every single human motivation one might have.

So on the one hand our super hot elf mule all powerful wizard dungeon lord of the soon to be world had her inhibitions devoured, and no longer feels the need to hold back on anything.

The elf has finally learned right from wrong. Even if it is just a bit.

On the other hand, she finally learned right from wrong, so I think we can call it a wash.

His absolute lack of social skills are well established. He's ended up on the right foot in the story because he's a monster autistic savant and they're in a dungeon filled with them, but remember, for instance, that he got taken advantage of by his first party and he thought Shuro was his buddy when actually the latter hated his guts and only tolerated him because he wanted to bone his sister.

            >he thought Shuro was his buddy when actually the latter hated his guts and only tolerated him because he wanted to bone his sister.
Shuro is definitely annoyed by him and can't stand him but I do think he cares in his own way. Laios just doesn't understand humans enough to get why you would never want to be around someone but still care so he thinks Shuro doesn't think of him as a friend when really he's just the fricking annoying friend you keep at a distance to preserve your sanity. That does reinforce your point about his social skills though.

Sure, if you wanna keep tooting that horn, but the point is that it's not "anime proportions/outfits" stylization, but "idealized real life" stylization. It could be taken out of a photoshoot for a calendar, for example. Doesn't mean it's not sexualized (Cithis there is very blatantly hitting most "sexy secretary" tropes), but that it's more subtle than is the norm for manga fanservice by far. If she's taken out of a porno, it's the very first shot. Contrast with something like picrel (taken from GIS).

Flamela is doing her job, is Mithurn that's stepping over the line. Of course we know Mithurn will be proven right by our heroes, bit you have to put yourself in her position.

Flamela is wrong but her actions are understandable from her perspective, she's missing a lot of info. Sometimes she sounds low-key brainwashed with the queen loyalty though.

I mean, thats her job. You don't get put into a position of authority over a bunch of ex-convicts and shit being sent into foreign lands to handle extremely dangerous wish-granting magical bullshit unless you are trusted beyond any shadow of a doubt. Nobody would be put in Flamela's position unless they were the most loyal person in the room.

As far as she knows, Laios has convinced the dungeon master to try to quit but not the reasons; I know >around elves watch yourselves, but letting the party think they'll be forgiven and killing Marcille the moment she lets down her guard would be a risk that costs way less lives than backing her into a corner and making her go down fighting (and if the bet fails leaves them in no worse a position). I know it's because she's more soldier than cop, but in her position and with her knowledge telling someone who is asking for terms that there'll be no forgiveness is backing a rat into a corner.

                Anonymous

Flamela doesn't exactly have a strategic mind. It's implied she's the reason they got captured by orcs too. Sometimes I wonder if she just failed upwards into her position or if it's nepotism like people have speculated, but probably she's just really strong and most situations the Canaries deal with usually don't require any prudence.

Beating up the current dungeon master would at least stop said dungeon master from further spreading the dungeon, commanding monsters and doing all kinds of other evil magic shit. it's really not unreasonable to target them first.

It's easy for the reader to call Flamela stupid.
She's in the right acting the way she was instructed to giving her context. Mithurn can think outside of the box because of his personal experience as dungeon lord and being driven by a single desire to defeat demons.

The elves have always sucked at diplomacy. They operate under the assumption that anyone taken in by the demons has been thoroughly seduced and brainwashed and trying to reason with them is pointless. By all appearances that's usually the right call, but they didn't count on our party's impenetrable autism.

Yeah, I'm not one to go "the Canaries did nothing wrong" because they're a bunch of condescending pricks who haven't given any vital info unless it was pried out of them, but under the assumptions they were laboring under (which they had from previous similar situations), everything they saw was entirely consistent with the standard dungeon-demon-corruption cycle. Not really. There was at least one other 'demon breaking free' incident in the past 20 years (Kabru's backstory), and all 3 dungeon lords we have seen so far were at least part-elf.

                >and all 3 dungeon lords we have seen so far were at least part-elf.
Because elves know about it. Imagine how many cases there would have been, if other races would be aware of a wish granting demon.

                Anonymous

I think its also just a matter of the demon preferring better food. The elves typically come from lands with a higher quality of life, and they are immortal. This means that, which their basic needs typically met, their desire will be for more esoteric things rather than just "I want food". And, probably more importantly, they will live longer and thus serve as a desire battery longer. We haven't been shown anything that implies that being the dungeon lord extends your lifespan, so picking a longer lived race over a shorter one is just generally going to be a better investment for an immortal demon.
A human is a snack. An Elf is a meal.

                >they are immortal
According to Laios, elves live about 5 times as long as tall-men (Ch57p34).
                >We haven't been shown anything that implies that being the dungeon lord extends your lifespan
Thistle has been a dungeon lord for at least 1000 years, and looks young. If Laios is actually correct, Thistle's natural lifespan has been extended. (But not necessarily by the lion itself, considering Thistle is a dark wizard)
Also, the demon has kept Yaad and the other humans from the past kingdom around (again, 1000+ years). King Dergal specifically must have had a physical body as well, because he left the dungeon as such.
Plus, while I wouldn't consider it a reliable source, the lion itself claimed that it could manipulate and equalize the lifespan of mortals as long as they remained within the dungeon.

It only takes one power hungry lord who suppose to guard it and everything is doomed. Ignoring the amount of adventurers who would actively try penetrate the dungeon and search for the demon.

It only takes one person encountering the demon and going unnoticed with the current method. If the races all worked together, you wouldn't be leaving the guarding to any one group.

Not everyone is running at 100% 100% of the time, especially when you're working against a deadline. Manga authors generally have assistants who help with the artwork too, and could make mistakes for her as well. Doesn't matter how good you are, you're always going to have off days, and you're going to mistakes, especially given a long enough timeframe. It's inevitable.

                Anonymous

Kui wouldn't let a mistake like that pass.

Mithrun's right eye was crushed by the goat demon when it ate almost all of his desires, after that he used a prosthetic.
It makes sense that it didn't regrow from the resurrection magic, but one has to wonder why he couldn't regain his eye through healing magic in the first place.

                Anonymous

Oh yeah! It could be because of the nature of the wound (inflicted by a demonic entity), or it could be due to the nature of healing magic in and out of Dungeons (We already know that the only reason you can resurrect someone in a dungeon is due to the nature of the dungeon trapping the soul of the deceased in there, so maybe body part regeneration isn't possible outside a dungeon since the air outside isn't as saturated with mana as it is in a dungeon).

                Anonymous

I don't remember there being a moment where it was lost, but yea it seems like he lost his prosthetic eye (which was giving him the appearance of a lazy eye). Dude's take enough hits and been thrown across long enough distances that it's quite possibly it was knocked loose, but I would be interested to see if one could pinpoint the moment, maybe even confirm whether or not she illustrated it coming loose, but it was a small enough detail in a panel to be missed.

"DEMONS could be here" he thought "I've never been in this dungeon configuration before. There could be DEMONS anywhere." The cool breeze felt good against his svelte, androgynous chest. "I HATE DEMONS" he thought. The sound of Marcille's crying reverberated around the entire dungeon, echoing even as newly regenerated blood circulated through his powerful thick veins and washed away his (merited) fear of demons after ascension. "With teleportation magic, you can go anywhere you want" he said to himself, out loud.

Everyone is understandably afraid of what might happen if the world gets absorbed by the dungeon, but the fact of the matter is that no one actually KNOWS what the consequences of that will be. The demon is manipulative, but even now it doesn't appear to be actively malevolent. Life in demon world need not inherently be a bad thing, its just a change of the rules.

The radar chart is missing some parameters to properly illustrate all of the party's specialties. Chilchuk's DEX (and how it differs from what one might call a DEX-focus DPS like kot), dwarves' lack of stamina, how most of the party is very competent in their field of specialization but hopeless outside it, how Kabru is great at killing humans but trash at dealing with monsters, how Shuro would kick Laius' ass in a fight (when not starving and exhausted at least) despite being smaller and weaker than him, so on and so forth. It's also interesting how Marcille and Fallin are pretty generalist casters within their areas of specialty (offensive/evocation and defensive/restorative, putting them somewhere analogous to a wizard and cleric respectively) but can still tap into the others' expertise, while the Canaries are mostly one-trick ponies (possibly due to messing around with ancient magic) but very very good at their one specialty.

            Anonymous

Doubt that the canaries would really be one trick ponies. Cithis apparently has fire magic next to be an illusionist primarily, and they can do resurrection magic like anyone else. It's not unreasonable to assume that they have many different spells at hand, just like all the other spellcasters that we followed around have shown more and more spells at their disposal. The one true one trick pony would be Lycion as he doesn't really seem to be a mage in the first place, just a shapeshifter.

He actually seems to be the most well balanced of them all with good stats in everything except the meme skill nobody shares with the others. Makes sense, since he's the one who's really made a living out of adventuring while the others are either adjacent but not fully dedicated to it (Marcille studying related topics, Senshi making a living in a dungeon but without looking at the science of it all), only focus on one aspect of it (Chilchak specializing in traps and locks but not really caring beyond that) or flat out have nothing to do with that and little interest and just happens to be a good fighter (Izutsumi).

Eh, even a monster autist doesn't have encyclopedic knowledge of every bit of mythology out there. His upbringing was pretty sheltered too. Remember that a lot of what he knows and dreamt of he got from a supposed monster-eating adventurer's books only to find out that at the very least the monster eating bits were bunk when he got to try it for himseld.

It amazes me that all the characters are clearly individuals despite a simpler art style. Though she draws detailed bodies and clothes on top of them.

      Anonymous

The art style, being simple, allows for a much wider variety of face shape than most anime uses. Anime style typically has a stock face shape uses for 95% of the cast, only outliers like old people or buff dudes deviate from it. In Dungeon Meshi, each race has its own range of unique face shapes and features that make them instantly identifiable as being of that race, and each character has their own specific face shape on top of that.

Think of it this way: its a common meme that you can take almost any shonen male and turn them into a woman by giving them eyelashes and longer hair, because everything else is basically the same anyway. But you can't do the same thing with this manga, it would just look like the male character wearing makeup and a wig. Which is a GOOD thing, because it means that the faces are more distinct.

I enjoy some Ganker now and then, though. I also enjoy some productivity. I see no reason to cut one or the other unless I have something that demands more time than my current hobbies.

                it's called anti-depressants

I try to minimize how many drugs I have to take a day, to prevent the kidney and liver death of my immediate forebears.

anti-depressants were discovered to be ineffective since it turns out brain chemistry doesn't work as theorized. Diet and environment are apparently bigger contributing factors but i can't kick those fresh cans of corn syrup.

now, this WAS just one study. And it doesn't do anything to show effects don't occur, it just claims it doesn't work how we thought.

what is the thing he wants to do?

He wants to find something he can pour his energy and passion, but doesn't want to try anything to find out what that something is. He wants it to come to him as some sort of mystical revelation. To be fair, this is very likely the fault of his parents, who raised him badly, offering him no guidance. It's not the first time I encounter people like this online.

If you want to be better at art then put in the time and draw. Drawing is a skill, and people use talent as an excuse to cop out of actually put in the work to develop it. Instead of b***hing on Ganker about some professional who has been doing it professionally for years on end, fricking take that pencil and put it to paper you little shit.

That's pretty surprising to see an indie game like that make it big overseas.

Heartwarming though. LoG was a very fun time. Lizardman knight and minotaur barbarian up front, human rogue and Lizardman caster in the back.

I should really get back and finish LoG2, but I'd probably have to restart since all my notes I made to myself are gibberish on the map.

The older (>30) Japanese LOVE first-person dungeon crawlers. I'm not surprised at all that LoG is known there.

          >That's pretty surprising to see an indie game like that make it big overseas.
Wizardry games were a genuine hit in Japan to the point it spawned the DRPG genre over there via countless copycats, and there's a ton of JP exclusive entries in the series. There's a big fanbase for blobbers and Grimrock was a shiny new one from the West they could actually play for a change so I guess it pulled people in.

it's not that he's doing this because he wants people to suffer or die, but his goal would result in the entire world being consumed. even if that somehow doesn't kill everyone, it would result in a hellish purgatory where everyone's numb to everything because they're granted whatever they want all the time, as seen with the golden kingdom. also, he makes his appearance look evil as hell while doing this for some reason.
