Man, I would love to see a special event on Planetside like EDF, but considering how shit the servers are, trying to render even a few dozen bugs for all the players would cause them to melt
Haven't played the dlcs for either game. There are a few gameplay differences for each of the classes but the overall gameplay is pretty much the same. All of the bosses are different except for Erginus fights. You fight dragons instead of weird flying frogs. The giant human frogs are replaced by giant robots which are cooler, and there are different enemies that you fight later in the game which add variety. Overall its just more missions of EDF so if you enjoyed 5 then you would probably like 4.1.
The underground missions feel pretty much the same as the ones in 5 though.
Why would you want to rebuy 5 if you already have it on ps4 though?
because I only have a base ps4, and some of the later missions are pure hell with how low the framerate gets and trying to aim just with joysticks

plus I wanted to play an edf handheld on my deck, and also wanted to be able to play online with Ganker and just escape playstation online in general

piss off homosexual. My first edf was 2 on PS2 imported and that shit went as low as 4 fps in some cases. It's not edf if the framerate isn't tanking. You are clearly playing the game wrong if you have 60 fps.

DNG is honestly a great weapon, very accurate once you practice its arc a bit, no lengthy reload, high enough damage to one shot a lot of enemies and biggest blast available to ranger.
you will also win the friendly fire battle at the end of the mission every time.

This, even iron rain had a ton of shit spawning in on the later missions and dlc and said frick a good framerate.
Its probably worth it then if you have a good pc. EDF 4.1 has less graphical effects so it should be easier to run. I played EDF 4.1 on ps4 and just learned to deal with the framerate drops, but they're probably even worse for 5.

I can deal with framerate drops, but some of the really late missions in 5 are just consistent 20 fps and with all the fricking flashing lights and shit everywhere and fricking deeroys or drones bouncing all over the place trying to fricking shoot them on a controller in those conditions while also having to constantly run to not instantly get melted makes me want to jump off a cliff
PC or console? PC release is probably at least a year away. Story isn't super important, but if you care, 6 continues where 5 left off. 4.1 is unrelated.

Maybe it's because I only did a playthrough on ranger but I wasn't too impressed with 4.1 despite a lot of posters here saying they prefer it. Gear felt really slow to drop, old gear drops over too wide of a range, the hectors are less interesting than colonists/cosmos, too many missions of hectors slowly approaching from the ocean menaing you can't get their loot.
As cool as the concept of the world eaters is the final boss is really boring, just shooting up into stationary cannons in the sky for half an hour while taking cover behind buildings.
I had fun playing it, though.
6 is even better, really took a lot of great things from both 4 and 5.

the other thing is that I set up remote play so I can actually play 5 portably now
except it's still running on my PS4 and the quality of the streaming is kind of chunky, plus I can't map voice lines to the touchpad

Idk I assume it's the typical autistic "change bad" people that want to play a very specific way and it got nerfed or just feels different.
Expect to see some fencers acting like this when they transition to 6, thrustboosting is just ever so slightly different but the difference isn't really material.
In 5 you typically cancel the side thrust at the very start of its active frames.
In 6 it feels like you can't boost until its active frames are mostly over and the momentum is still carrying you but already decelerating. This is definitely affected by gear that shortens the interval between consecutive thrusts, though.
I tested this using similar gear in both games and also without increases. There is definitely less momentum carried over in 6 at early levels of gear I haven't really tried higher level boosters yet. The amount of distance and speed lost isn't that great, the combination is still better and you also need to take into account that the default is 2 charges rather than 1, now.
I mentioned those ones that replace boosts with thrusts and thrusts with dashes, if you equip both it might be possible to get more charges depending on your unlocks/equip limits, but it feels incredibly awkward. I kept doing it wrong so I switched the sides my gun and piercers were on, then it felt awkward having them on the wrong side when I was attacking.
Fencer gear mostly seems like the same shit. So far I like two new gear they added.
One is a new striker, a giant hammer when fully charged it produces a very high damage explosion right in front of you. It's easy to miss peoole right to your side but when you get used to the hitbox it is awesome.
Then there's a new piercer, a katana that essentially makes the big sword strikers obsolete(as if anyone used those). Short range(50 to 70m) but it has piercing effect, good damage, a fast 3 hitcombo, usually has like 9 ammo. Equipping two lets then combo into each other and swing continuously. Most importantly it has a boost jump so you can now go full melee and keep your mobility. It combos with other multihitters like the blasthole spear, swinging during the delay between thrusts.

I meant to say thrust and boosts, sorry. its just one item changes all items with one to the other and vice versa, and equipping both just switches the two. So jackhammer would have a jump boost and dexter would have a sidethrust. Equipping only one means you only have side thrusts or whatever.
Considering the default is 2/2 I was surprised how high the level got before a 3/3 multicharger showed up.
If the exploding hammer was in 5 I never used it, then.
It does kind of feel like a bit of a downgrade, but you still pretty much have free reign to kite indefinitely.
I say overall fencer has the fewest things added to it, though I haven't really played him on higher levelea yet. It almost feels like a nerf since he was leagues above everyone else in 5. It's probably because he doesn't get the extra slot that everyone else has.
Meanwhile I can name pretty potent changes they made to most of ranger' weapon classes, lots of cool stuff he got.
Every class in 5 is balanced and fun to play unlike 4.1 where only ranger and fencer are fun. Even ranger is better in 5 though since you get a sprint so you dont have to roll everywhere plus you get an equipment and vehicle slot.

Boost dash got a minor nerf but they added new kinds of boosters for them and increased the base amount of charges to 2

Maybe I am bias, I play so much ranger that I don't even notice anything under 6 second reload. Just being able to throw one grenade that instantly kills a strong enemy within 100m of me halfway through reload might as well be 0 downtime.

The dlc weapons get overpowered by the regular ones 20 missions in or so so take that as you will. I don't think it's worth it personally but it is cheap.

It looks really cool like an arcade style one with enemies running all over the background, reminds me shitnlike time crisis with tons of things running at you and you aren't really expected to kill them all.
Gear works like in EDF though and you lose what you collected if you die instead of getting unlocks. Makes it terrible to make headway in this game.

the plasma core mechanics from edf are there so if you ever thought making the player stop shooting for several seconds to reload in a shmup was a good idea then this game is perfect for morons like you.

Well you were talking about tadpoles too and they are easiest to just wait until they land and pummel them, and like I said shotgun jackhammer works on everything, definitely enough for those bees on mission 99 as well.
FG is really the missle of choice. yeah you can't fire as often as ranger but they are high capacity and powerful. I have seen the results. There are people who kite indefinitely and let these missles do the work I have seen them do it for 30 minutes straight solo while everyone else is dead. It works but I hate these people I avoid them.
For bees specifically they are really slow and clump up you can get em good with the cannon shot or go all in with dual wield NC hand cannons or miniguns or something.
For the hive I would recommend either just punching it or using the hand cannons from far away while other people tank. If you use exoskeletons instead of boost it's probably safe to just walk while firing.
Seriously though the best option is to just pull and kite them and let the rangers and AR help you.
Dispersal Mortar is great for thinning out swarms, but Fencer doesn't have any good weapons for hitting flying enemies at range like sniper rifles or thunder crossbows.

i just love how slow the 3-man helicopter takes off and how slowly it turns. never played any flight sim or anything, but it feels like i'm actually driving that thing and i have to turn before the helicopter actually turns and predict and recognize when to stop turning if that makes any sense. i love that kind of thing.
i always do the "let's take the vehicle" auto chat and they'll come running. the one with the flamethrower is the best. i plug in my controller for EDF and i think the controller makes helicopter controls easier.
personally, i hope they never change it because it is one of the most satisfying things to me and the guys in the turret seat just love it; one of the best parts is when i have to turn the helicopter for the guys in turret seats in order to give them the proper angles because those turrets can only move so far

Didn't keep up much with 6, saw the new drones for air raider that let them use some strikes underground but can't find much info on the vehicles. Any major changes there or just mostly the same stuff from 5?
I don't really frick much with vehicles but the one new one I noticed is a truck with an anti air heavy machine gun.
In the bad timeline missions there are nix torso mounted on truckbeds.
In late game there are NPC with proteus mechs, the ones they use have high power laser streams. I assume you can get one.
Late game Barga now has a super aoe sweeping laser similar to the mobile base giant laser, and yes it reloads.
I doubt it at this point to easily find randoms without friends.

As soon as I got to hardest there was nobody a week after release, it's dead like all the other spinoffs if you don't know anybody.
Had a weird issue with EDF 5 while playing with some pals last night. Was smooth sailing until we hit mission 9, where one of my friends would suddenly get booted from the lobby just before the loading screen finished. Went back and tried precious missions with no problem, but as soon as we tried mission 9 again, they got booted every single time.
Eventually suggested they make their own lobby and try launching the mission solo, but just as before, they got booted, except they were being booted from their own fricking lobby by the game.
Anyone ever experienced shit like this? It has me perplexed.
Simplest guess I can make is corrupted file for that mission or something that mission has?
Try it in single player and see what happens or either way verify the game files.
i saw it happen to plenty of guys in the random rooms i went in, and i think 4.1 might have had this problem too. the same guy would get disconnected over and over again until he just quit and left the lobby
I have no clue, I don't speak japanese. They are never seen fighting each other and all often spawn together to fight you. It seems more like primers are just developing new weapons and shit progressively over each timeline, just like the humans do.

Expect to see some fencers acting like this when they transition to 6, thrustboosting is just ever so slightly different but the difference isn't really material.
The tone and dialogue in 4.1 is a million times better in edf 5 and I feel like it bothers people more than it should.

how is thrust boosting different
In 5 you typically cancel the side thrust at the very start of its active frames.
In 6 it feels like you can't boost until its active frames are mostly over and the momentum is still carrying you but already decelerating. This is definitely affected by gear that shortens the interval between consecutive thrusts, though.
I tested this using similar gear in both games and also without increases. There is definitely less momentum carried over in 6 at early levels of gear I haven't really tried higher level boosters yet. The amount of distance and speed lost isn't that great, the combination is still better and you also need to take into account that the default is 2 charges rather than 1, now.
I mentioned those ones that replace boosts with thrusts and thrusts with dashes, if you equip both it might be possible to get more charges depending on your unlocks/equip limits, but it feels incredibly awkward. I kept doing it wrong so I switched the sides my gun and piercers were on, then it felt awkward having them on the wrong side when I was attacking.
Fencer gear mostly seems like the same shit. So far I like two new gear they added.
One is a new striker, a giant hammer when fully charged it produces a very high damage explosion right in front of you. It's easy to miss peoole right to your side but when you get used to the hitbox it is awesome.
Then there's a new piercer, a katana that essentially makes the big sword strikers obsolete(as if anyone used those). Short range(50 to 70m) but it has piercing effect, good damage, a fast 3 hitcombo, usually has like 9 ammo. Equipping two lets then combo into each other and swing continuously. Most importantly it has a boost jump so you can now go full melee and keep your mobility. It combos with other multihitters like the blasthole spear, swinging during the delay between thrusts.

I meant to say thrust and boosts, sorry. its just one item changes all items with one to the other and vice versa, and equipping both just switches the two. So jackhammer would have a jump boost and dexter would have a sidethrust. Equipping only one means you only have side thrusts or whatever.
Considering the default is 2/2 I was surprised how high the level got before a 3/3 multicharger showed up.
If the exploding hammer was in 5 I never used it, then.
It does kind of feel like a bit of a downgrade, but you still pretty much have free reign to kite indefinitely.
I say overall fencer has the fewest things added to it, though I haven't really played him on higher levelea yet. It almost feels like a nerf since he was leagues above everyone else in 5. It's probably because he doesn't get the extra slot that everyone else has.
Meanwhile I can name pretty potent changes they made to most of ranger' weapon classes, lots of cool stuff he got.
I get you can't call a KM6 in on the brown/purple levels but can you use the drones and stuff in the blue ones?

Every class in 5 is balanced and fun to play unlike 4.1 where only ranger and fencer are fun. Even ranger is better in 5 though since you get a sprint so you dont have to roll everywhere plus you get an equipment and vehicle slot.
4.1 Wing Diver is absurd though.

any weapon/equipment rebalance? I feel like it's always a tough choice between Shield Barricade and Shield Protection, always want both but I also want either Boost or Dash
I don't really know a lot about different shields and their equips I never used them in 5
Boost dash got a minor nerf but they added new kinds of boosters for them and increased the base amount of charges to 2

Maybe I am bias, I play so much ranger that I don't even notice anything under 6 second reload. Just being able to throw one grenade that instantly kills a strong enemy within 100m of me halfway through reload might as well be 0 downtime.

The dlc weapons get overpowered by the regular ones 20 missions in or so so take that as you will. I don't think it's worth it personally but it is cheap.

It looks really cool like an arcade style one with enemies running all over the background, reminds me shitnlike time crisis with tons of things running at you and you aren't really expected to kill them all.
Gear works like in EDF though and you lose what you collected if you die instead of getting unlocks. Makes it terrible to make headway in this game.

Well you were talking about tadpoles too and they are easiest to just wait until they land and pummel them, and like I said shotgun jackhammer works on everything, definitely enough for those bees on mission 99 as well.
FG is really the missle of choice. yeah you can't fire as often as ranger but they are high capacity and powerful. I have seen the results. There are people who kite indefinitely and let these missles do the work I have seen them do it for 30 minutes straight solo while everyone else is dead. It works but I hate these people I avoid them.
For bees specifically they are really slow and clump up you can get em good with the cannon shot or go all in with dual wield NC hand cannons or miniguns or something.
For the hive I would recommend either just punching it or using the hand cannons from far away while other people tank. If you use exoskeletons instead of boost it's probably safe to just walk while firing.
Seriously though the best option is to just pull and kite them and let the rangers and AR help you.
Dispersal Mortar is great for thinning out swarms, but Fencer doesn't have any good weapons for hitting flying enemies at range like sniper rifles or thunder crossbows.

How do I fix the shitty load times in EDF 5 on PC? I saw some people say that you need to limit the fps to 60 but I tried that and it still takes like 30 seconds to load into a mission.

the main problem comes from the need to tap the ascend button so the heli kinda goes up and down
wish they would make it stay at the same altitude once the ascend button is released and make pitch control based on mouse input, but i heard it was developed for controller first and foremost
I never had any problem flying a helicopter
i just love how slow the 3-man helicopter takes off and how slowly it turns. never played any flight sim or anything, but it feels like i'm actually driving that thing and i have to turn before the helicopter actually turns and predict and recognize when to stop turning if that makes any sense. i love that kind of thing.
i always do the "let's take the vehicle" auto chat and they'll come running. the one with the flamethrower is the best. i plug in my controller for EDF and i think the controller makes helicopter controls easier.
personally, i hope they never change it because it is one of the most satisfying things to me and the guys in the turret seat just love it; one of the best parts is when i have to turn the helicopter for the guys in turret seats in order to give them the proper angles because those turrets can only move so far
EMC is also really good and fun
Vehicles only control like shit with m+kb since the turn speed uses acceleration designed with controllers in mind.

I don't really frick much with vehicles but the one new one I noticed is a truck with an anti air heavy machine gun.
In the bad timeline missions there are nix torso mounted on truckbeds.
In late game there are NPC with proteus mechs, the ones they use have high power laser streams. I assume you can get one.
Late game Barga now has a super aoe sweeping laser similar to the mobile base giant laser, and yes it reloads.

Had a weird issue with EDF 5 while playing with some pals last night. Was smooth sailing until we hit mission 9, where one of my friends would suddenly get booted from the lobby just before the loading screen finished. Went back and tried precious missions with no problem, but as soon as we tried mission 9 again, they got booted every single time.
Eventually suggested they make their own lobby and try launching the mission solo, but just as before, they got booted, except they were being booted from their own fricking lobby by the game.
Anyone ever experienced shit like this? It has me perplexed.
Simplest guess I can make is corrupted file for that mission or something that mission has?
Try it in single player and see what happens or either way verify the game files.
i saw it happen to plenty of guys in the random rooms i went in, and i think 4.1 might have had this problem too. the same guy would get disconnected over and over again until he just quit and left the lobby

I have no clue, I don't speak japanese. They are never seen fighting each other and all often spawn together to fight you. It seems more like primers are just developing new weapons and shit progressively over each timeline, just like the humans do.
I just finised all the armageddon difficulty missions in World Brothers, mission 58 was tougher than the last one.
I've not played all of them but never seen the last mission of any EDF game be the hardest
