Easier to Run/Play Shadowrun

TG,

I've been working on a fantasy cyberpunk game, for about a year and a half. I'm a D&D, Pathfinder, Cyberpunk and Shadowrun player.

I always disliked how much of a pain in the ass it was to teach the shadowrun system to both DM and players.

I want to gather some interested parties that want to help playtest the game.

If you are interested, please reach out to:

You got any questions or wanna suggest anything, I'll be looking at this thread for a few hours.

      Thanks, I appreciate the support.

Alright, alright I like this, tell us more.

For now, I'm working on the mechanics, I want to get them ironed out, and then its gonna be LORE(tm) time, and I expect to credit a lot of people for the work, with their names in the project's lore.

What do you have so far?

Most of the mechanics, classes, abilities, powers, a good list of traits/feats.

A short list of enemies, and a short list of items.

      >I've been working on it for 18 months now
      >There is nothing to back that up, but trust me, bro, I've been working
      Sure you did

Nothing, for he is an idea guy that had this cool idea about making a game - and then just set on it.

Most of the mechanics, classes, abilities, powers, a good list of traits/feats.

A short list of enemies, and a short list of items.

Post it, then, rather than desperately trying to keep the thread afloat with empty bump posts.
You do have an actual game to post and thus talk about, right?

You can read the OP, I'll talk about what I've got if anyone needs anything answered, but I'm looking for players/groups willing to test it.
Its hard to talk about non fluffed straight mechanics.

But it's not hard to share the material you have made.
You do have material to share, right? You aren't just fishing for a new group, right?

Not the OP, genuinely interested in this dude's system he's making.

Please don't waste your life being angry and cynical all the time, it will suck the joy and contentment out of your life

If you are interested in the system he's making, then why aren't you asking him to post it?
There is nothing cynical in asking for the game he's making, in a thread about the game he's making, for the sake of having a game to discuss in a thread dedicated to discussing his game.
Otherwise, what ELSE you want to talk about? The idea of making a game?

I do, but because last time we posted something here, we saw it released by a company as a full commercial release.

We'll only be doing a release, when everything is closer to being done as a 1.0 version.

On the commercial side for us, we only wanna get "maintenance money" from selling merch or content, the core stuff is gonna be freebie.

Man I'm working on my own system and this sounds like the pinnacle of "idea guy" shit. "Oh I have such cool ideas, and maybe I've written one or two down on evernote, but most of them are in my head and I can't share them because they're so good and original that they would immediately be stolen."

Can't fault the guy for being paranoid. I've heard a bunch of stories of screen writers and authors getting their ideas yanked by other people they share their ideas with for feedback, and sometimes have made a bunch doing so

It only has happened once, but it was enough to learn from the experience. A "Game Developer's Meeting" where we showcased a video game(which uses a lot of the things in this system) was literally hijacked by this fat piece of shit that always recorded the meetings. You live and you learn.

KEK I could go onto the whole chain of events, but it started in Ganker, then "meetup", then the actual meetings.

                >Its hard to talk about non fluffed straight mechanics.
It's really not. We do it in the GURPS thread all the goddamn time. People do it for M&M and BESM as well. People just have to be able to *read* the mechanics to be able to discuss them.

Fair enough, the next couple o days I'm gonna be working on shit for this, so I'll try my best to "word out" the formulas and I'll post em here.

Matter of fact, dawg, here's a pencil
Go home, write some shit, make it suspenseful
And don't come back until somethin dope hits you

You don't even need to "word out" the formulas. If you expect feedback then post something. If you just want to create negative attention though, go right ahead.

I never really asked for feedback though, I'm willing to listen to ya lads, but I came here looking for playtesters.

          >Its hard to talk about non fluffed straight mechanics
Only if they're badly written and have not been made public in any way. Once you post them, assuming they're written well, they can be talked about very easily.

            Anonymous

No, at the moment they are straight formulas, thats why they are not exactly the easiest to talk about, like standard challenge X rolls are the same as in any other TTRPG, I have adversarial rolls reserved to add "influence" from the BBEG.

What does the core resolution method of your system look like? How does it scale?

            1d6
            critically successful
            successful
            successful with penalty
            try again
            failing
            failing with a consequence

For combat, its a little more complicated though. Which I honestly need to see play out, so its usually W+A+B vs Enemy AC+Bonuses(Cover, ability, etc) but I want to see this live and see how people do with those calculations manually, without something like Roll20 doing all the heavy lifting.

    WIP character sheet, placeholder graphics.
AE Resolution system is in there, CR Resolution is not, character info, people you know, favors, etc
And this is a Wisdom based Infiltrator with a knack for investigation.

This looks tasty, sent an email, you gonna use roll20 or what?

        Anonymous

In the beginning probably not, since everything is subject to change, so pen and paper with dice if at all possible for testing, then once the char sheet is 100% solid, yeah, probably through Roll20 for more "open" testing.

You're a moron, one of the best parts about Shadowrun is it filters out players who only know to play fake tabletop games like D&D5E.

Why not just adapt dnd 5e

5e honestly has a lot of things that are great, and an adaptation would kinda work, but dedicated rules and equipment just can't be beat. I think its best if I build this, and give players a stepping stone into 2020 or SR.

I don't share the non inclusive mentality. I want more people to play Cyberpunk games, they are a lot more interesting than the average D&D game. Why not make it easier for people to get in on the fun?

I was thinking of hacking Infinity 2d20 to use for Shadowrun. It already deals with most of the aspects of the game, only magic system would be necessary to make from the scratch.
