Elden Ring and BOTW chads should form an alliance to BTFO modern western games. I love these 2 games to death and they are the greatest open world games and yet Ganker has to always pin them against each other. Why? Why cant this place have both Zelda and souls fans like myself? Elden ring literally has maps you need to collect and 6 towers, one for each reason. It has a crafting system that doesn't mean much. It has maps that you need to get into enemy territory to pick up. It has fast travel to any warp point.

I love elden ring, but get your head out of your ass. It's not completely unique in all aspects; celebrate a game for what it is and dont make up shit to pretend its not also a video game.

Sure-- but aren't they the weakest aspect of the ubisoft games and BOTW too? They're all cutting corners on that regard.

Ubishit is on its own level with the sheer volume of low effort crap they spam. At least in BOTW and ER it feels somewhat meaningful with actual rewards and not just a huge pain in the ass, especially how well integrated in the lore and map visuals those ER towers are. But clearly the games aren't centered around that unlike ubishit

              Anonymous

I never played ubishit but I know their games has cities, you can probably take damage from bonfires and you can swim while in Elden Ring there is no cities, bonfires doesn't do damage to you and you can't swim. ZERO (0) world interactivity.

This is what ubishit looks like
and yeah sure I guess the passive world in Elden Ring is fricking dead but if we're being serious that is such a total non-issue because it adds frick all to the game. You want something with super realistic physics and world interaction play rdr2 and watch the horse balls freeze while a hawk catches a fish like literally who gives a shit wether or not the fire burns you there's multiple well designed enemy encounters and loot and quests and an open world that immerses you just fine

        >6 towers
The towers are entirely optional. They're locations where you purify certain boss items to get access to different buffs. Comparing them to the likeness of Ubisoft/BOTW exploration towers is disingenuous as frick and you should feel ashamed for doing it.

        Anonymous

        >maps you need to collect
        lmao
You don't need the maps. What the maps do is that they have the geography on them, so its possible to make out ruins or cave entrances and go there to see if it matches.
The ONLY thing the maps give you, is that they have a icon for mines, that is easy to miss.

ER is the same as BOTW: The map isn't useful because it adds markers, its useful because the terrain details it gives out.
Overworld design is similar: You see something, you need to go there to see if there is actually something there.

But a difference is that BOTW is centered around using gameplay mechanics to travel/climb/glide, where in ER you are not forced to platform often enough. BOTW is more like playing one of the versions of GTA3, since getting killed by car physics because you tried to go trough a narrow street used to be a attraction.
ER also has really good combat, its just a shame post Leyndell is centered around the fact the game gives you too many tools and expect you use to use most of them for the balance to work.

The towers are entirely optional and each has a unique gimmick to them that makes them fairly unique and interesting to explore. Comparing them with AC towers is moronic.

the difference with Elden Ring is that map starts small and when you explore more it starts getting bigger I like that aspect and divine towers each are there to give reward after beating the area main boss.

        this is extremely unlikely
I think people forget just how hideously jank and poorly designed most of DD:DA was
the game is very charismatic but gameplay-wise it kind of sucked for most of the time you were engaging with it
this is coming from someone who really enjoyed the game btw

          Anonymous

That's because it was rushed and unfinished. It became the greatest 7/10 despite its rushed and unfinished state.
Also I don't think elden ring is all that mindblowing of a game, it's just a lot of dark souls in an open world, and botw shits the bed 2 hours in, so beating them for me is not that high of a bar considering I already enjoy DD more than those two despite its flaws.

            Anonymous

it's a really solid 6/10 to be entirely honest
souls games / elden ring making a large number of weapons viable throughout the game is something more of these games need to adopt
it's so boring to continually chase gear with higher number that looks like ass
they tried to make specialized weapons with DA but failed because, again, bigger number always better

            >Also I don't think elden ring is all that mindblowing of a game
well yeah there are plenty of shortcomings. it's the open world game I've enjoyed the most but for obviously different reasons than someone would appreciate witcher or botw

            Anonymous

invasions work just as they are intended to they are just boring after a while because thats the nature of them no matter how satisfying it is to clear ganks or bully random players, simply putting the word "fix" in front of something doesn't really mean shit. PVP and fight clubs are the only way for this game to flourish and have a solid identity next to from's previous titles.
            Think about it logically
            >all those colosseums
it would be moronic to leave those huge assets unused, pvp, bossrush and maybe some other gimmick game
            >all the weps and customization
just some common sense in balancing and optimisation and you have an actual viable ranked/comp scene. It already exists in Academy just in a really rough state
            >garb alteration & crafting
clearly underdeveloped systems, flesh them out and implement them into pvp scene, e.g. dead players on occasion drop materials that can be used to craft dyes that can in turn be used to alter garment colour, flashy builds etc explorable and obtainable through pvp

Nah, the real alliance is BotW and DD. BotW for the best exploration and environment interactions, and DD for the best combat and the pawns. ER just sucks.

Nah, I love DD and despise BotW. BotW had horrible exploration for me that was among the worst I've seen in open worlds. All it had was environmental interactions which are neat, but quickly lose their novelty and usefulness.

I loved DD for combat and pawn system. Its open world was not very good. I liked BotW for the first few hours when it made good use of those systems, but shortly after the plateau the game falls apart and Nintendo needs to fix its pervasive fundamental flaws and not grow lax listening to all the mindless praise it gets from people who try to find excuses to justify why they just liked running around big empty fields.

Sounds like you're the one who likes DD for the wrong reasons. Either that or you're just being a petty prick despite saying up above you liked it for the same reasons I did.
And I liked exploring Elden Ring's world because there was actually a point to it and worthwhile discoveries and progress to be made. I don't think it did much for the souls formula overall, but it was certainly a much better open world than DD and BotW.

Stop trying so hard to be antagonistic. Hardly anyone like's dogma for it's open world. It's empty as hell, only serves as space between quest objectives, and all the monsters spawn in the same locations. It hits its stride in the everfall and bbi.

Is liking BOTW just a meme, like with Fallout 3? The game sucks bro, it's just full of copy paste shrines, none of which have any sort of clever level design, none of which tell any sort of story, and none of which have cool combat encounters, they literally only have one enemy that can show up. The divine beasts are lame as well, the only one with interesting puzzles was the electricity one in the desert, which was definitely the best area of the game because it had actaul content besides shitty shrines and copy paste enemy encampments.

The closest Elden Ring gets to that level of laziness is the Erdtree avatars, otherwise it is much more varied and is just a better game overall, even though it is a bit overrated.

except exploring in botw was actually fun and rewarding in elden ring 70% of the time exploration rewarded you with jack shit. The main gripe I have with both games is that there is almost no incentive to interact with the enemies unless they block your way like in a tight hallway and there is no other way around. So most of the time you just run around them in eldenring because they give jackshit souls and in botw partly because of weapon durability

I prefer making real progress and finding a variety of interesting things, instead of more breakable weapons, orbs, and seeds which are the most boring upgrades they could've possible had.

I actually enjoyed the exploration the first halve of the game a lot in botw when everything was new and I didn't knew what to expect. The novelty lessened the more I played but it in eldenring I actually felt let down most of the times with the dungeon rewards or chest rewards that were offered (useless spirit ash/crafting material). Honestly Botw has the same issue with the camps being 100% a waste of time after you beat one because you can't do anything useful with ores

I can understand that. I really liked botw at the start too,but it was once I realized how shallow and samey it all was that it completely fell apart for me and pushing myself through to try and beat it hoping it would get better really made me hate it in the end. Elden ring has problems with its open world too, but I never once felt like what I was doing was completely worthless and I knew that if I wanted to try out a certain build or spirit ash I could and so getting them and often having them replace what I was currently using felt good, as did naturally getting stronger from combat.

I'd rather have a fun puzzle, a health or stamina upgrade that's always useful and possibly a piece of unique armor than doing a boring catacomb and getting an ash upgrade I won't ever use.

              >a health or stamina upgrade that's always useful
Negated by the cooking system, no oneshot mechanic and the plethora of ways to cheese the game and also the overall difficulty being very low past the start.
              >and possibly a piece of unique armor
A very rare possibility to get something unique in the form of a piece of armor that, according to your own criteria, you likely won't ever use.
              >fun puzzle
              >boring catacomb
A real bastion of objectivity. Don't try so hard to force yourself to like or dislike things because you have to arbitrarily pick sides, you'll be happier.

                >A very rare possibility to get something unique in the form of a piece of armor that, according to your own criteria, you likely won't ever use.
It's not rare at all and because there aren't level or build requirements and each one serves a different function, you actually do use them.
                >A real bastion of objectivity.
Physics puzzles are fun. Running through a samey looking dungeon with the same enemies and no interesting layouts outside of the trick double rooms dungeon is boring.
                >because you have to arbitrarily pick sides
Pick what side? Sekiro was From's last game and it's a fricking masterpiece. Elden Ring is shit. What is it with morons and thinking you can't dislike a shitty game unless it's some type of console warring?

Yeah no, it's way easier to find simple ingredients laying around everywhere to make op dishes than it is to engage in dark souls combat.
                >It's not rare at all and because there aren't level or build requirements and each one serves a different function, you actually do use them.
The ones you actually find and not just buy are rare and there's no many armor sets overall.
                >Physics puzzles are fun. Running through a samey looking dungeon with the same enemies and no interesting layouts outside of the trick double rooms dungeon is boring.
Again, please try to have some objectivity here. You cannot praise botw's shrines while trying to slam er's "boring and samey" dungeons. Botw does it so much worse.
                >Sekiro is a fricking masterpiece
On that we can absolutely agree and in my opinion Sekiro completely trashes both.

                >The ones you actually find and not just buy are rare and there's no many armor sets overall.
No point in replying if you're going to lie about the game and then cry about objectivity when someone says physics puzzles are more fun than combat oriented dungeons that are samey. BotW shrines have fun puzzles. The color scheme being the same objectively does not affect the quality of the puzzles themselves. You are an idiot.

Show me these easy ways to cheese elden ring's leveling that are even easier to do than finding hearty ingredients to fit in your 50 slot inventory to make tons of overpowered dishes that you can pause to eat at literally any time with no repurcussions. Show me how elden ring is easier than an autosave feature that respawns you with only 30 seconds of lost progress and any items you used returned to you.
It's not just color scheme anon and you know it. The wealth of options and freedom of agency given to the player to allow them to fashion their own solutions to advertising is amazing. Its sets BotW so far apart from dogshit open world games that it feels genuinely next-level.

You act like this freedom is a bad thing. You can only try and trivialise with reductive nonsense. Because no game does it better. You want dumbed-down games. You want games to tell where to go and how to play. You want baby games.

Nowhere near as easy as the kind of cheese you'll stumble across by chance just player botw normally. 100k souls is not going to take you very far and getting to and fighting that big dragon that spawns 5 other dragons or the blood palace is still way more difficult and time consuming than finding ingredients laying around everywhere. Also acting like everyone would just naturally know those, especially their first time playing, vs my examples is incredibly disingenuous.
                >You mean the only part that matters at all?
Then I'd have preferred a level select so it could cut out the rest of the filler. Seeing the same shrine with the same outcome and the samey puzzles got old 10 shrines in. Elden ring's catacombs and the like are fairly samey too, but at least they're more varied and worth doing than botw's equivalent as you'll never know if you'll find something great.
                >Physics puzzles are fun.
I never once said they weren't. I don't have a problem with the puzzles other than them being too easy, I have a problem with everything around the puzzles.
                >I said the ER catacombs are boring because all they have is combat against repetitive enemies with samey layouts
See I could easily just turn this back on shrines. They were boring because they have samey layouts with repetitive puzzles. The rest of what you're saying here is just intentionally trying to misrepresent my argument.
                >Just claiming you're being objective
I said you weren't even trying to be objective, which you're not and you know you're not. I was almost going to start replying to all of your nonsense seriously, but then I noticed you didn't post a timestamped save from BotW. You really are ACgay, aren't you?

You should really stop going through the whole routine every time you get into an argument. You are the biggest coward in these threads.

                >Negated by the cooking system

moronic clown shoes argument. The cooking system offers only a temporary buff over a few minutes at most.

Shrine orbs grant permanent empowerment and growth.

                You utter fricking moron.

Yes? How is this "broken"? lmao you can cut down grass for full hearts on other Zelda games.

lmao sorry you're still bootyblasted by thia masterpiece 6 years later.

I see your tendie twitter poll and raise you an actual Ganker poll. Wouldn't be surprised if botw had lost to w3 too if it were to go head to head and not have w3 votes taken by er.

This is your argument of "quality"? Its better because a multiplat available on 10 different platforms has more traffic on youtube? lmao whatever helps you cope.

Nintendo would never be able to deliver a product of this same hype, size and quality on multiple consoles, easy talk when all you gotta do is make it for 1 platform.

Also Elon Musk and Forbes already confirmed ER is the best open world game ever
