Yes. DS1 is a slog, not sure why I enjoyed it so much years back.

I think I have an idea about this one
Here's a short summary of my DS1 experience when it first came out:
      >don't know what bonfire kindling is and play the entire game with 5 estus
      >couldn't figure out the upgrade system either, beat everything with +5 claymore
      >crossbow couldn't aim so I assumed ranged weapons are worthless
      >fire keeper died or some shit idk, now the hub no longer works
      >constantly getting lost and running in circles
      >try to kill the hydra, fall through the floor and drown
      >run past infinitely respawning skeletons because nobody explained wtf is a blessed weapon
      >walk into a pitch black area and start digging through my inventory for a torch. There is no torch
      >get hit through walls by unkillable ghosts with noclip
      >INVISIBLE FRICKING BRIDGES
      Easily my favorite Souls experience

The entire game was a massive bullshit gauntlet, a knowledge check that you were supposed to fail and play it like you're doing a convoluted challenge run
The enjoyment isn't even about the game or its mechanics, it's the experience of being brutally assfricked by a video game for the first time
This experience is no longer possible to replicate because everyone already knows everything and you're left with a shit unbalanced game that lets you hit trade from start to finish or straight up skip most of it with a bow.

FromSoft obviously knew how that went so they never tried the same approach in subsequent games, there's just no chance it would work again unless it's straight up unplayable
So now Dark Souls 1 has a cult. The game itself is pretty whatever
Most praise you hear for it on the internet are straight up lies or rationalizations stemming from peer pressure

Anon, were you prepubescent when you first played the game? Just about everything you mentioned is either explained to you or just require you to stop, look, and think for a couple of seconds.

No I was a 14 yo console monkey that couldn't bother reading because the TV is too far
All my friends who played it at the time had a similar experience of dying to random bullshit and seething about it, just not as extreme as in my case

          >stop, look, and think for a couple of seconds
Yeah that's easy for you to say now that you know a game might expect you to not be stupid
I'm sure that bloodstained elevator in Sen's fortress communicates something to you now that you've been taught to not be a fricking idiot, but back then I played motherfricking Skyrim and Dynasty Wariors. Cut me some slack ok?

Fromsoft games aren't designed well at all, much of the systems in place require meta knowledge to even make sense.

I feel like this only applies to making boss weapons or accessing the dlc. Maybe some covenant related stuff too.

He explained the problems pretty well
            >estus upgrades not explained
            >weapon upgrades (hidden items) not explained
            >hiding ladders needed for progression by making them the same color as the wall
            >putting ladders sideways so all you see is a pixel wide line
DS2 is even worse, like lighting the metal windmill on fire to stop poison in a boss arena, which makes no sense. It's like everything new they try is moronic which is why ds3 is one of the best games, because it doesn't try anything new

              >estus upgrades not explained
talking to any fire keeper gives you an option to upgrade your estus, and the description for the fire keeper soul explains that it's used to upgrade your flask
              >weapon upgrades (hidden items) not explained
if you're talking about embers, then of course they're not gonna tell you where they are. if you're talking about boss weapons, then I don't think it's unreasonable for a blind player to stumble across one. all of the boss soul items tell you that they can be used to make weapons, and it's more than possible that someone will get a weapon to +15 and see a boss weapon in the list while trying to upgrade it further.
              >hiding ladders needed for progression by making them the same color as the wall
              >putting ladders sideways so all you see is a pixel wide line
I don't recall this being a thing at all

                >description for the fire keeper soul explains that it's used to upgrade your flask
Sure, but did you know you could spend humanities to get more flasks?
The game most certainly mentioned it somewhere, but the entire humanity mechanic is so brain damage inducing I only found out about it in the year 202x watching my nogames friend play DS1 for the first time.
The dude read some guide, grinded rats for half an hour then walked around the entire map kindling every bonfire to 20. EVERY SINGLE FRICKING ONE
                >idk the game's kinda easy
                that's a quote

I might have to boot the game up in a bit and double check, but I'm pretty sure it explains it to you alongside levelling up when you first get to Firelink. Humanity also isn't a rare commodity, it's pretty cheap to just experiment and see what kindling does.

                >Humanity also isn't a rare commodity
For people that are good at Dark Souls playing a decade after release. Last time I finished the game I had like 40
People would actually run out before figuring out wtf it does when they played this shit for the first time in 20 fps on a limited color range TV

Yes, I'm working on platinum in every game. Finishing the last Sekiro DLC guantlet has been the hardest task by far. Currently on NG+3 in DS2 and I've had a ton of fun trying a bunch of weapons and builds I'd never used before. Majula really is the best hub in the series.

Replace AC 6 with DS2 and yeah, that's pretty much what I'm in the middle of doing. Only have the end of Sekiro and then BB to replay though.

What does AC6 do well? I can't think of a single aspect of the game that isn't lacking or just alright. Nothing stands out about the game aside from being the only AC on modern platforms.

I just finished ER for the first time like an hour ago. Why were they so fricking lazy with the endings? I spent like 100+ hours just for some slapped together 20 second shit?

      >Caring about the lore
homie I have played and bought every from soft game and you know what happens?
I beat a bunch of bosses and sit on a throne. If I did anything but sit on a throne at the end I'd be upset at this point. My guy is here to prove he is the strongest, I don't care about some person's history I'm about to kill.
